ANNIE AWARDS TRIBUTE RICHARD WILLIAMS The 47th Annual Annie Awards are dedicated to the memory of Richard Williams. Born, raised, and educated in Canada, Dick Williams began his remarkable career in animation through the advertising industry. After relocating to London in the early 1960s and setting up his own studio, he continued to create animated ads – more than 2,500 of them! Richard Williams Animation, Ltd. was also responsible for creating the titles for such feature films asWhat’s New Pussycat? (1965), Casino Royale (1967), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968) and several Pink Panther films of the 1970s. His 1971 adaptation of A Christmas Carol won the Oscar for Best Animated Short. He directed the 1977 feature filmRaggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure, but is best known for two groundbreaking motion pictures: The Thief and the Cobbler, a highly personal film that Dick began in 1964 but never fully completed to his original intent, and the revolutionary Who Framed Roger Rabbit! (1988), which redefined the melding of animation and live action forever. Throughout 2008 he served as artist- in-residence

  • Press Release
GOBELINS and Netflix strengthen their partnership in favour of the emergence of new talents in animation Paris, November 3rd, 2020 - One year after the establishment of a partnership aimed at identifying and developing new talent in animation, Netflix and GOBELINS announce a new chapter in their collaboration with the creation of scholarships for three Bachelor's students, a new post-baccalaureate course. This new chapter of action complements the initiatives already in place with, in particular, the financing of scholarships for Master students from the African continent and the integration each year of a young graduate from GOBELINS into the Netflix Animation Fellowship programme. A broadening of the partnership set up in 2019 On the occasion of the start of the 2020 academic year, Netflix and GOBELINS are strengthening the partnership set up in 2019 with the creation of scholarships that will give three students each year access to GOBELINS' education as part of the introduction of a Bachelor's degree. This new course aims to master all animation techniques, both traditional and digital (2D and 3D), from pre-production to post-production, using professional methods practised in animation film studios in France and abroad. The first beneficiaries of this character animation apprenticeship scholarship programme will be appointed in June 2021. "We are proud to help foster the emergence of new talent from diverse backgrounds alongside GOBELINS. With this new chapter of our collaboration, we will also be able to support younger profiles with just raw talent and their highschool diploma in their pockets", said Dominique Bazay, Kids & Family Director at Netflix.

  • For Student Success
TRANSFORMING School Environments OUR VISION For Student Success Weaving SKILLS ROPES Relationships 2018 Annual Report Practices to Help All Students Our Vision for Student Success City Year has always been about nurturing and developing young people, from the talented students we serve to our dedicated AmeriCorps members. We put this commitment to work through service in schools across the country. Every day, our AmeriCorps members help students to develop the skills and mindsets needed to thrive in school and in life, while they themselves acquire valuable professional experience that prepares them to be leaders in their careers and communities. We believe that all students can succeed. Supporting the success of our students goes far beyond just making sure they know how to add fractions or write a persuasive essay—students also need to know how to work in teams, how to problem solve and how to work toward a goal. City Year AmeriCorps members model these behaviors and mindsets for students while partnering with teachers and schools to create supportive learning environments where students feel a sense of belonging and agency as they develop the social, emotional and academic skills that will help them succeed in and out of school. When our children succeed, we all benefit.
