Relaxed Opening Monday 4 November 2019 | 9–10am

Visual Story This is the courtyard of Burlington House. This is the entrance we recommend using for our relaxed opening of Gormley.

Antony Gormley will be open to visitors attending the relaxed opening from 9–10am before the exhibition and building open to the public. You can enter Burlington House before 10am by telling a Red Collar or member of our security team that you’re attending the relaxed opening. You will be able to explore this exhibition but the rest of the building will be closed until 10am.

Please only touch artworks with this hand symbol, indicated in this visual story or in the sensory map of Antony Gormley.

Visual Story Burlington House Front Hall Level G

When you arrive, you’ll enter the Burlington House front hall. Volunteers will take your name and give you a sticker so you can enter the exhibition.

They will also have sensory maps, visual stories, Art Detectives and gallery guides to Antony Gormley if you’d like one for your visit.

Visual Story Quieter area Level 1

The Blavatnik Salon and the Council Room will be open during your visit. You can use these spaces if you feel like you need to take a break. These rooms will be available for visitors attending the relaxed opening to use until 10.30am. You enter these rooms from the Tennant Gallery.

Visual Story The Robert Miller Vestibule Level 1

This is the entrance to Antony Gormley. You don’t need to queue or show a ticket to enter the exhibition before 10am. You can pick up a gallery stool before you enter the exhibition from the left of the door if you think you’ll need seating during your visit.

Visual Story 3 Clearing VII Level 1

There is a wheelchair accessible path around the left side of Clearing VII. You can gently touch this as you walk around it. Be careful when you touch the aluminum tube as it has sharp edges and may transfer colour onto clothing.

This is the inside of Cave. It is very dark and there are sharp edges inside the sculpture. You may have to duck as you walk through it. Hard hats are available to borrow at the entrance of the sculpture.

This is the exit of Antony Gormley.

Visual Story The RA shop Level 1

The exhibition exit is through the RA shop. The shop will not be open until 10am but you may see members of staff preparing for opening during your visit.

Visual Story Fire exits

If you hear a sharp, loud beeping noise during your visit, this is a fire alarm. Listen to staff and exit the building by following the fire exit signs.

Visual Story When the relaxed opening ends

At 10am, the RA will open to the public. The galleries and building may become busier and louder. You are welcome to in the exhibition after 10am or go back in after taking a break. Show the member of staff outside the entrance to the exhibition your sticker to re-enter the Main Galleries.
