Sean Kelly Gallery 528 West 29 Street 212 239 1181 New York, NY 10001 www.skny.com ANTONY GORMLEY Blind Light October 26 – December 1, 2007 Sean Kelly is delighted to announce a major exhibition of new work by Antony Gormley. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, October 25th from 6pm until 8pm. The artist will be present. The centerpiece of Gormley’s ambitious exhibition is a room-sized installation that occupies the main gallery entitled Blind Light . Blind Light is a luminous glass room filled with a dense cloud of mist. Upon entering the room-within-a-room, the visitor is disoriented by the visceral experience of the fully saturated air, in which visibility is limited to less than two feet. The very nature of one’s sense of one’s own body and its relationship in space to others is challenged. In Gormley’s words: Architecture is supposed to be the location of security and certainty about where you are. It is supposed to protect you from the weather, from darkness, from un - certainty. Blind Light undermines all of that. You enter this interior space that is the equivalent of being on top of a mountain, or at the bottom of the sea. It is very important for me that inside it you find the outside. Also you become the immersed figure in an endless ground, literally the subject of the work. Blind Light was included this summer in Gormley’s hugely acclaimed exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London, to unprecedented public and critical approbation. -
The [Hi]Stories of Chotto Desh
The [Hi]stories of Chotto Desh DESH – and Chotto Desh, its younger version adapted for family audiences – began with a promise, one made by a son to his mother. Years ago, early in his career, Akram Khan had promised Mrs. Anwara Khan he would make a piece on the country of her birth, Bangladesh. Akram intended to keep his promise, but life kept happening, other projects kept coming in the way… Then one day, it all started coming together. Akram met visual artist Tim Yip, someone he had admired for long. Tim, agreeing to collaborate with Akram on his next work, suggested it should be an exploration of his parents’ roots: Bangladesh. It was time to keep a promise. To go on a journey. And that is what we did. The entire creative team met for the first time in Bangladesh, travelling together for ten days through November 2010 to discover many of the voices, faces, places that compose the country. Now, in this strange, unprecedented moment of physical isolation and danger, when memory and emotional nearness and beauty are our magic wands for sanity, we remember them. Now, when Chotto Desh will be streamed in an attempt to share something that gave us so much joy and warmth, it seems fitting to share also our memories of those voices and faces and places, the ones that compose DESH and Chotto Desh in ways both visible and invisible. Dhaka, the unstoppable metropolis, of multi-coloured streets, hurtling traffic and intrepid pedestrians. The busy villages, the vast countryside, the carom-playing children. -

Guide to Liverpool Waterfront “Three Graces” – Together the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building make up the Mersey’s ‘Three Graces’ and are at the architectural centre of Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. Otterspool Promenade – The construction of Otterspool Promenade (1950) provided both a new amenity for Liverpool and an open space dividend from the disposal of Mersey Tunnel spoil and household waste; a project repeated three decades later to reclaim the future International Garden Festival site. A favourite with kite fliers this often overlooked wide open space is perfect for views of the river and picnics Antony Gormley’s “Another Place” - These spectacular sculptures by Antony Gormley are on Crosby beach, about 10 minutes out of Liverpool. Another Place consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. The Another Place figures - each one weighing 650 kilos - are made from casts of the artist's own body standing on the beach, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation. Mersey Ferry - There's no better way to experience Liverpool and Merseyside than from the deck of the world famous Mersey Ferry listening to the commentary. -

Juilliard Dance Senior Graduation Concert 2019 Welcome to Juilliard Dance Senior Graduation Concert 2019 Tonight, you will experience the culmination of a transformative four-year journey for the senior class of Juilliard Dance. Through rigorous physical training and artistic and intellectual exploration, all of the fourth-year dancers have expanded the possibilities of their movement abilities, stretching beyond what they thought possible when entering the program as freshmen. They have accepted the challenge of what it means to be a generous citizen artist and hold that responsibility close to their hearts. Chosen by the dancers, the solos and duets presented tonight have been commissioned for this evening or acquired from existing repertory and staged for this singular occasion. The works represent the manifestation of an evolution of growth and the discovery of their powerfully unique artistic voices. I am immensely proud of each and every fourth-year artist; it has been a joy and an honor to get to know the senior class, a group of individuals who will inevitably change the landscape of the field of dance as it exists today. I am enormously proud that, in the year that increased pressure on arts funding really came to be felt, 677 performances were presented on the stages of Sadler’s Wells, the Peacock Theatre and the Lilian Baylis Studio. Proof that the public appetite for dance is as strong as ever, and a welcome contrast to the media’s gloomy predictions for the arts in this age of austerity. Walking around Sadler’s Wells one can feel an extraordinary sense of energy and purpose, something I am sure the redoubtable Lilian Baylis would be very happy to see. Indeed, the spirit of that remarkable woman really appears to live on in the work that Sadler’s Wells does with the local community - this year’s mainstage project Sum of Parts, organised by the Creative Learning Department, was a triumphant success and for me it represented exactly what Sadler’s Wells is all about - inclusivity, artistry and a sense of community - both in terms of its place within the local area and its role in the UK dance scene.
