The annual award of The Art Newspaper Russia is one of the most anticipated events in the art world, an acknowledgment of outstanding achievements in the field. The award highlights the past year's most significant events in Russian art both in Russia and abroad, as well as the work of patrons of the art in developing and preserving cultural heritage. The choice of winners was determined by both public response and the professional community's feedback. The award itself is a sculpture by Russian artist Sergey Shekhovtsov depicting the Big Ben of London and the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin as intersecting clock hands. The Art Newspaper highlights the events that incorporate Russia into the international art scene, promote Russian art abroad and, on the other hand, allow Russians to see and appreciate the art of the world. Inna Bazhenova, publisher and founder of The Art Newspaper Russia Award, the head the Department of Culture of Moscow Alexander Kibovsky and the editor-in-chief of The Art Newspaper Russia Milena Orlova opened the ceremony. This year the jewellery company Mercury became the general partner of The Art Newspaper Russia Award. For Mercury, cooperation with the number one art newspaper was a continuation of the company’s strategy to support the most significant cultural events.

Box 49138, Iran 2School of Food Science, Washington State University, P.O. Box 646376, Pullman, Washington. USA 99164-6376 Abstract A comparison of the fatty acid, amino acid and proximate composition between the roe of wild and cultivated beluga (Huso huso) sturgeon from Iran are presented here. The fatty acid profile varied between wild and cultivated sturgeons but there was no differences observed for proximate composition and amino acid profile. The wild sturgeon roe contained higher amounts of n-3 fatty acids particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3, EPA) (wild: 2.9%, cultivated: 1.24%) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3, DHA) (wild: 5.1%, cultivated: 2.38%). Linolenic and linoleic acids were the predominant fatty acids in roe from cultivated beluga, a reflection of diet and also a likely physiological adaptation to a higher temperature environment. Low levels of PUFA in cultivated sturgeon negatively affected fertilization and hatching ratios which were significantly lower than for the wild fish. Hence, in order to culture beluga, feed with higher fatty acid with more n-3 is necessary to reach high quality roe and fertilization and hatching ratio.

D’Andrea’s is an insightful study of expressive indi- vidualism manifested in and through key cosmopolitan sites. This book is an 5 invaluable contribution to the anthropology/sociology of contemporary culture, 6 and presents required reading for students and scholars of new spiritualities, 7 techno-dance culture and globalization. 8 Graham St John, Research Fellow, 9 School of American Research, New Mexico 20111 1 D'Andrea breaks new ground in the scholarship on both globalization and the shaping of subjectivities. And he does so spectacularly, both through his focus 2 on neomadic cultures and a novel theorization. This is a deeply erudite book 3 and it is a lot of fun. 4 Saskia Sassen, Ralph Lewis Professor of Sociology 5 at the University of Chicago, and Centennial Visiting Professor 6 at the London School of Economics. 7 8 Global Nomads is a unique introduction to the globalization of countercultures, 9 a topic largely unknown in and outside academia. Anthony D’Andrea examines 30111 the social life of mobile expatriates who live within a global circuit of counter- 1 cultural practice in paradoxical paradises. 2 Based on nomadic fieldwork across Spain and India, the study analyzes how and why these post-metropolitan subjects reject the homeland to shape an alternative 3 lifestyle. They become artists, therapists, exotic traders and bohemian workers seek- 4 ing to integrate labor, mobility and spirituality within a cosmopolitan culture of 35 expressive individualism.

4 FEATURE FOLK ON THE EDGE As Gogol Bordello returns to Australia, singer Eugene Hutz warns a musical storm is coming, writes Jane Cornwell fter three decades in the rock busi- ness, Eugene Hutz knows how to make an entrance. I’m waiting in the mezzanine lounge of a west London hotel popular with music- Aians, nodding along to an 1980s chart hit sound- track, when the lanky, long-haired frontman suddenly appears at the top of the stairs, strum- ming a beat-up Cordoba acoustic and looking, as they say in Britain, the dog’s bollocks. He’s wearing a bomber jacket, a looped patterned scarf, a single gold hoop earring and a clutch of long gold necklaces; his tight black trousers have large white termites printed on them. His cheekbones are sharp, his eyes cobalt blue. His handlebar moustache curls at the corners. A man without a moustache is like a woman with one, goes an old Ukrainian saying that Hutz, who is Ukrainian, has confessed to making up. “Hallo,” he says in his thick Slavic-American accent, percussively slapping the body of his guitar, which is plastered in oval-shaped car stickers from Spain, Mexico, Britain, all over. “So it is you who will tell them we are coming.” Gogol Bordello was last in Australia in 2010 storytelling. With all the illegitimate hierarch- try blues, Brazilian carnival music and keening Eugene Hutz but the memories of the band’s frenzied, mosh- ical things going on in society all the time, this folk melodies from eastern Europe. Our nation has never been more divided, more war- stricken, more fearful of the future. Yet, the promise and the greatness of Russia remains undaunted. The Russian Provisional Government can and will overcome these challenges and lead our Motherland into the dawn of a new day. Out of character. To introduce myself, I’m a fourth-year Economics and History double major, currently writing a BA thesis on World War II rationing in the United States. I compete on UChicago’s travel team and I additionally am a CD for our college conference. Besides that, I am the VP of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, previously a member of an all-men a cappella group and a proud procrastinator. This letter, for example, is about a month late. We decided to run this committee for a multitude of reasons, but I personally think that Russian in 1917 represents such a critical point in history. In an unlikely way, the most autocratic regime on Earth became replaced with a socialist state. The story of this dramatic shift in government and ideology represents, to me, one of the most interesting parts of history: that sometimes facts can be stranger than fiction.
