BULLION 16B www.bullioncellars.com.au A new blend of style and taste... Adrian Filuta from the Merivale Group is back on the deck this quarter. For those not familiar with the Merivale name; this is a restaurant and bar group owned by Justin Hemmes, who has added a level of style, elegance and sophistication in Sydney that everyone else is trying to emulate. Adrian is one of Merivale’s senior Sommeliers and has recently taken his spittoon to the “The Paddington”; a great new venue in the heart of Oxford St. The wines Adrian has chosen are quite full bodied, perfect heading into the cooler months, but they are also elegant and sophisticated. Wines to drink over lazy, long lunches and decadent, indulgent dinner parties. Excited? ... So are we. We’ve been saying for a while that Chardonnay is the new black. It has been a long time since we have sent a Chardonnay in our Sommelier Selections, but it has been worth the wait. and flavour and the 2013 Journey Yarra Valley Chardonnay is a prime But first, a bit of history. • Italy's Most Popular Aperitivi
Italy’s Most Popular Aperitivi | Epicurean Traveler https://epicurean-traveler.com/?p=96178&preview=true U a Italy’s Most Popular Aperitivi by Lucy Gordan | Wine & Spirits Italy is world famous for its varied regional landscapes, history, food and accompanying wines. However, if you go straight out to dinner, you’ll be missing out on a quintessential tradition of la bella vita, because, when they have time, self-respecting Italians, especially in the north and in big cities, start their evening with an aperitivo or pre-diner drink. An aperitivo is not “Happy Hour” or an excuse to drink to oblivion. Italians blame many ailments on their livers so the aperitivo has digestive purposes. It allows Italians to relax, unwind and socialize after work. It also starts their digestive metabolism and gets the juices flowing with a light, dry or bitter tonic with a “bite” to work up their appetite before dinner. This so-called “bitter bite” is beloved to Italians who prefer it and the overly sweet to sour. It took me several years to get used to bitter, much less like it. The oldest aperitivo is vermouth, an aromatic fortified wine created in Turin, where the aperitivo tradition is still strongest today. As www.selectitaly.com tells us: “ One of the oldest vermouths dates back to 1757 when two herbalist brothers, Giovanni Giacomo and Carlo Stefano Cinzano created vermouth rosso, initially marketed as a medicinal tonic.” This explains the bitter quality of many Italian drinks even non-alcoholic ones like chinotto or crodino. The Cinzano brothers flavored their vermouth, (its name derived from the German wormwood), with Wermut, its main ingredient, and with over 30 aromatic plants from the nearby Alps: herbs, barks, and roots such as juniper, gentian and coriander.

WINE BOOK United States Portfolio January, 2020 Who We Are Blue Ice is a purveyor of wines from the Balkan region with a focus on Croatian wineries. Our portfolio of wines represents small, family owned businesses, many of which are multigenerational. Rich soils, varying climates, and the extraordinary talents of dedicated artisans produce wines that are tempting and complex. Croatian Wines All our Croatian wines are 100% Croatian and each winery makes its wine from grapes grown and cultivated on their specific vineyard, whether they are the indigenous Plavac Mali, or the global Chardonnay. Our producers combine artisan growing techniques with the latest production equipment and methods, giving each wine old-world character with modern quality standards. Whether it’s one of Croatia’s 64 indigenous grape varieties, or something a bit more familiar, our multi-generational wineries all feature unique and compelling offerings. Italian Wines Our Italian wines are sourced from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, one of the 20 regions of Italy and one of five autonomous regions. The capital is Trieste. Friuli- Venezia Giulia is Italy’s north-easternmost region and borders Austria to the north, Slovenia to the east, and the Adriatic Sea and Croatia, more specifically Istria, to the south. Its cheeses, hams, and wines are exported not only within Europe but have become known worldwide for their quality. These world renown high-quality wines are what we are bringing to you for your enjoyment. Bosnian Wines With great pride, we present highest quality wines produced in the rocky vineyards of sun washed Herzegovina (Her-tsuh-GOH-vee-nuh), where limestone, minerals, herbs and the Mediterranean sun are infused into every drop.
