Met grote droefheid vernemen wij dat de heer Jacques Swaters (84) op vrijdag 10 december 2010 van ons is heengegaan. Hij is overleden in een Brussels ziekenhuis. De gedachte van Scuderia Ferrari Club Genk gaat naar de familie en vrienden. Jacques heeft altijd een speciale band gehad met onze club en wij zijn hem natuurlijk ook heel dankbaar voor de mooie momenten samen. Jacques Swaters begon zijn autosportcarrière in 1948 tijdens de 24uren van Spa Francorchamps. In 1951 volgde zijn Formule 1 debuut. Hij was aanvankelijk zelf piloot, richtte daarna Ecurie Francorchamps op en werd één van de eerste Ferrari-dealers in Europa. Swaters had ook nauwe banden met Gianni Agnelli en Enzo Ferrari himself, relaties die meer dan 50 jaar duurden! Zijn Formule 1-debuut kende Swaters tijdens de Grote Prijs van Duitsland. Hij verving de geblesseerde André Pilete. Swaters reed later nog 6 andere races met een 7de plaats op de Nürbürgring als beste resultaat. Achter het stuur van touringwagens kende Swaters meer succes. In 1954 eindigde hij als vierde tijdens de 24u van le Mans in een Jaguar C-type. Het jaar erop werd hij zelfs derde. In 1957 stopte Swaters met het racen, maar werd hij teambaas van de Écurie Nationale Belge, een fusie tussen de Écurie Francorchamps, Écurie Belgique en Johnny Claes' Écurie Belge. Belangrijke coureurs die uitkwamen voor het team waren o.a. Olivier Gendebien, Lucien Bianchi en Mauro Bianchi. Echter in de langeafstandsraces was de Écurie Francorchamps zeer succesvol, zo won het in 1965 de 24 uur van Le Mans. De Écurie zou tot 1982 auto's inschrijven, waarna Swaters zich op zijn Ferrari garagebedrijf richtte. Mensen die Jacques een laatste groet willen brengen, kunnen dit in het Funerarium van Ukkel, Stiltestraat, gelegen naast de ingang van het kerkhof. Dit van dinsdag 14 tot donderdag 17 december 2010, telkens van 10:30u tot 16:00u. De begrafenis is op maandag 20 december om 11:00u in Elsene, een deelgemeente van Brussel in de Abaye de la Cambre. Ontwerp en teksten: Alessio Cannistrà Het weekend van 11 december 2010, was er het officieel afscheid van Luca Badoer bij Ferrari. Op de motorshow van Bologna heeft hij afgelopen week al afscheid genomen van ‘zijn laatste’ Formule 1 bolide nl. de F60. Badoer verlaat Ferrari na dertien jaar trouwe dienst als testcoureur. Zijn hoogtepunt bij Ferrari was het invallen voor de geblesseerde Felipe Massa tijdens de GP van Valencia en België in 2009. Zijn racecarrière bij Ferrari verliep weliswaar niet rooskleurig. Hij werd na 2 races aan de kant geschoven voor G. Fisichella, die het ‘iets’ beter deed. Luca was tenslotte al 10 jaar uit de echte racewereld. Zijn carrière kende heel wat pech: je wordt niet zomaar F3000-kampioen in je debuutjaar door Rubens Barrichello te verslaan...Hij had wel degelijk kwaliteit! De Italiaan kreeg twee afscheidcadeaus: een standbeeld gemaakt van onderdelen van auto’s waarin hij heeft gereden en een Fiat 500 Tributo Ferrari. Lofwoorden voor Luca waren er ook van Ferrari-president Luca Di Montezemolo: Luca heeft altijd een belangrijke rol gespeeld bij onze successen, weliswaar op de achtergrond. Hij verdient veel lof, want hij is ons altijd trouw gebleven. Grazie per tutto, Luca! – Dank u voor alles, Luca!
