The major aim of the Forum is to share valuable experience and strategies for promoting creative industry through effective copyright protection system. The KCC aims to encourage authors to create works and build up a fair and balanced copyright system in order to contribute to the development of culture an copyright industry in Korea. Three major areas that the KCC concerns are creative environments for legitimate use of copyrighted content; education and publicity on copyright issues; and overseas promotion of copyrighted content. Roles and Responsibilities of KCC Copyright deliberation and conciliation Operating the copyright registration system Education & training to foster human resources in the field of copyright Promotion and publicity to enhance the public awareness on copyright protection Appraisal services with regard to copyright infringements upon requests by courts or any investigative institutions Conducting diverse in-depth research Enhancing international cooperation KCC BANGKOK OFFICE Established in May 2007, the Korea Copyright Commission Bangkok Office is responsible for promoting and protecting Korean copyright in Southeast Asian countries. Bangkok Office’s Role and Responsibilities Facilitating smooth communication between Korea and Southeast Asian countries by providing information about the Korean copyright system Offering in-depth information by conducting research on the legal system, licensing practices, industry technology, current issues and trends in the field of copyright in cooperation with academic research centers and local correspondents in Southeast Asian Countries Encouraging partnership with local authorities and cultural industries through various networks to promote public awareness on copyright Assist to facilitate copyright licensing through consultation on the local copyright system and information about cultural industry trends 3 22 October 2010 2010 Korea- Thailand Copyright Forum- Bangkok MINISTRY OF COMMERCE & DIP MINISTRY OF COMMERCE The Ministry of Commerce is in charge of trade, prices of important agricultural goods, consumer protection, entrepreneurship, Insurance, Intellectual property protection, exports and representing Thailand at the World Trade Organization. The Ministry was founded in 1892 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), by separating the ministry from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The Ministry moved to its present premises in Nonthaburi in 1989. The current Ministers are: Pornthiva Nakasai as Minister and Alongkorn Ponlaboot as Deputy Minister. The main missions of the Ministry are; - To generate country's income and value added for products and services - To strengthen domestic economy & trade and create opportunities for entrepreneurs - To ensure free & fair trade and strengthen consumer & producer protections as well as enhance intellectual property - To develop and manage trade system to efficiently support trade competitions DEPARTMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (DIP) Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) was established in 1992. It takes over missions relating to the administration of intellectual property from the Department of Commercial Registration (Now has been changed into “the Department of Business Development”)-Ministry of Commerce. The structures of the Department in reorganized several times during 1999 until now as to facilitate the adjusted roles, mission and strategies aiming as higher efficiency and effectiveness in the protection of intellectual property and to becoming a leading agency in enhancing the competency in intellectual property protection and service, as its vision. DIP has the major missions as follows; 1. Encouraging creation of intellectual property 2. Promoting management and commercial exploitation of intellectual property 3. Developing services thoroughly and efficiently 4. Developing intellectual property protection system towards comprehensive efficiency 5. Putting force fair use of intellectual property right and suppressing right infringement 6. Developing network both domestic and foreign countries.
