The incombustible “Chieftains’ are back on the road after nearly six decades of almost “incessant” activity. The Chieftains is the best known and most influential ensemble of Celtic music, a genre which they have revitalised, developed and spread to unconceivable heights. Traditional Irish music, previously relegated to the folk music circuit, has no limits in the eclectic and innovating zeal of these Dubliners.
With more than 57 years of music behind them, in the course of which they have worked with other legends such as Sting, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and The Rolling Stones and have been cultural ambassadors of historical events, they cannot think, they say, of “anything more exciting than spending another 57 years collaborating with the best voices of the future.”
The Chieftains are Ireland’s official Musical Ambassadors since their appointment by the Irish government in 1989.
