2 U NIVERSITY C LUB F OUNDATION N EWS The University Club Foundation has been able to provide scholarship support to hundreds of staff members and their families over the past 54 years, a commitment that reflects the fundamental belief of Club members in the importance of a college education. In this year’s spring meeting, the Foundation Board considered a record number of requests for tuition assistance—an increase of nearly 100% above previous years’ awards. Given the rising cost of higher education and the growing debt burden for this generation’s college graduates, the Foundation was pleased to be able to honor the submitted requests. This was due, in part, to the entire Foundation Board committing to an additional generous pledge.

Gerry Acosta, a Club staff member for 15 years, has two family members participating in the program this fall: his daughter, Allyson, will be a sophomore at Hope College and his son, Yeremy, is an incoming freshman at Hamilton College. Allyson, the first in her family to go to college, will be “taking organic chemistry alongside other rigorous courses...not only because they allow me to further my knowledge in a subject I'm passionate about, but these courses will also prove a challenge that I'm determined to overcome.” Yeremy is interested in economics and is "looking forward to taking full advantage of a strong economics program." Club support, along with significant financial assistance from their colleges, will enable them to graduate unencumbered by tuition debt.

The University Club Foundation is proud to be one of the earliest and largest club scholarship programs in the country. As demand grows, the increasing generosity of Club members will enable the Foundation to sustain its program of scholarship support—for which the Board, the staff, and the supported students are all grateful. There are many students for whom college would not be possible without the Foundation’s assistance—and many more to Gerry, Yeremy and Virginia Acosta. come.

The University Club Foundation is hosting an evening reception for all members to learn more about its scholarship program and meet a few scholarship recipients. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 22. The reception will commence at 5:30 p.m. in the Front Grill. Members who have not yet contributed to the Foundation may attend for $75 (with 100% of the Allyson and Yeremy Acosta. ticket price being contributed to the Foundation for scholarships). For those who have responded to the Foundation’s annual October fundraising letter, they may attend at no charge and also bring a friend.

Contributions to the University Club Foundation (a 501(c)(3) charity) are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
