This month Steve The Fly passes No. 400 in his Fly By Night series and the John Sinclair Radio Show is edging up to episode no. 900 since its inception on November 22, 2004. Episode 898 is another.hour of reefer tunes donated to RFA by our listener Paul Paul last year. All of our programmers and production staff contribute their work to this important project of the John Sinclair Foundation, offered free to the public throughout the universe for the past fifteen years, since the formation of Radio Free Amsterdam on January 1, 2005. * FEBRUARY 2021 PROGRAM GUIDE Monday, February 1 PICK UP THE PIECES JOHN SINCLAIR RADIO SHOW 895 Episode 895 is coming from Radio Free Amsterdam headquarters in the Cass Corridor of Detroit with the third of three programs with music contributed by my old friend Jules Bauduc of Louiaiana, known in musical circles as The Maestro, who sent me 4 CDs worth of rare music on 45 rpm discs, including most of this week’s program of tunes by the Duke Elllington Orchestra, Ray Bauduc, Pete Fountain, The Viscounts, The Champs, Bill Doggett, Link Wray, Eddie Harris, Cozy Cole, Dave “Baby” Cortez, Preston Epps, Santo & Johnny, Al Hirt, and the Average White Band, preceded by an opening set by Michel van Dijk & the LONE Project, Abbie Hoffman on Phil Ochs, Robin Eichele reading from his recent Journals, John Sinclair & Planet D Nonet from our new album Monk’s Dream, and Charlie Parker with our closing theme. Friday, February 5 CHANCE IT ANCESTOR WORSHIP 13 Episode 13 features a previously unreleased live concert by the classic Miles Davis Quintet recorded at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in 1956 with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers & Philly Joe Jones and recently released by Sony as the second disc in a new reissue of Round About Midnight, plus the two cuts recorded by Miles & Trane in May 1961 for the Columbia album Someday My Prince Will Come. Monday, February 8 LIVE WIRE JOHN SINCLAIR RADIO SHOW 896 Episode 896 is coming from Radio Free Amsterdam headquarters in the Cass Corridor of Detroit with a wide-ranging hour of music by Yusef Lateef, Little Wiilie John, Little Sonny, Jay McShann with Lamonte Hamilton, Larry McCray, Walter Noons, John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars, Robin Eichele, ML Liebler & the Magic Poetry Band, Martha & the Vandellas, Laith al-Saadi, Laura Rain & The Caesars, and Charlie Parker with strings with our closing theme. TONGUE FLY BY NIGHT 399 While on his wayward adventures in America, Steve Fly Agaric 23 hooked up with drummer Alan Hertz and his band, together with Eric Levy who was also playing with Garaj Mahal, bassist and good friend Liam Hanrahan and Jason Conception sitting in for Tal Morris on guitar. In 2003 the band recorded a spectacular album in Berkeley; the selections made here are from the California leg of a short tour the same year, after which they travelled to Los Angeles and then back to San Francisco Bay Area where the band resides: Alan Hertz, drums; Eric Levy, keys; DJ Fly Agaric 23, sounds, turntables; Liam Hanarhan, bass; and Jason Conception, guitar, recorded live at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, CA on September 18, 2003. Tuesday, February 9 TAKE A GIANT STEP THE BLUES SHOW 472 Bruce Pingree is coming all the way from WUNH-FM in New Hampshire in 2012 with a 70h birthday tribute to Taj Mahal featuring blues & gospel music by Taj with several of his splendid eclectic ensembles including the Rising Sons, Howard Johnson & Gravity, and the New Orleans Social Club, plus a cut by Taj’s major influence: Etta Baker.
