    Sweet and Dirty A collaboration of Sweet Brenda and Dirty Red Band Bios When Dirty Red – Eric McDaniel – leader of modern day powerhouse band, Dirty Red and the Soul Shakers invited legendary Oklahoma Blues Singer, Sweet Brenda – Bren Severson – on stage the first time to sit in with the band, a lightning bolt of electricity melded them together and shot their sound and energy into an unsuspecting blues audience that soaked it up like fireball whiskey on freaky Saturday night. From that moment this energetic collaboration has caused quite a stirring in the blues scene. Both musicians have made a name for themselves across the blues nation with experience and expertise that speaks for itself. When all of that is combined with the background and expertise of the rest of the band, a stage full of all-stars is born. Besides the giant personalities of Dirty Red and Sweet Brenda, the scary tight rhythm section of Cliff the “Iron Man” Belcher and Forrest Worrell, both of Watermelon Slim and the Workers fame, and the lonesome but ripping tasty blues guitar of Big Robb Hibbard, former lead for Miss Blues and the Blue Notes, put the icing on the cake. Add to all of that, the fact that Dirty Red and Sweet Brenda both write all the songs with soulful and pertinent lyrics written for all people, and a jolting beat that never stops, the dance floor is full and crazy, the room is packed with a punch of energy and the blues appetite is wildly satisfied. Sweet and Dirty is a collaboration of blues monsters bragging over 130 years of performance altogether culminating into this fabulous high- energy show.

    GARY CLARK, JR. 21st Century Blues The last two years have yielded a dizzying RISING FROM AUSTIN parade of triumphs for Gary Clark, Jr., the 28-year-old artist from Austin, Texas. With the by Tom Hyslop force of Warner Brothers Records behind him, Clark has received a promotional push that rivals that of any mainstream artist, one that certainly exceeds anything witnessed in the blues realm at least since the 1980s, with the mainstream breakouts of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray, and possibly since the highly-publicized signing of Johnny Winter by Columbia Records in 1969. In the course of the blitz, Clark has performed at every major festival, including Coachella, SXSW, Made In America, Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Lollapalooza, Dave Mathews Band Caravan, Newport Folk Fest, Electric Forest, Sasquatch! Festival, Mountain Jam, and others, along with dates in the most coveted clubs; received ink in a dizzying variety of publications, from MOJO and SPIN to such unexpected settings as Esquire, Vanity Fair, and even the mainstream Entertainment Weekly, with recurring coverage in Rolling Stone, including a five- star rating for his debut EP on Warners, in a write-up that led off the review section; and made appearances on the major late-night shows: Conan, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has taped an episode of Austin City Limits as headliner.     Bob Corritore Bio Bob Corritore is one of the most active and highly regarded blues harmonica players on the scene today. His style passionately carries forward the old school of playing that Corritore learned as a young man directly from many of original pioneers of Chicago Blues. His sympathetic, yet fiery harmonica playing is featured on over 25 releases to date, on labels such as HighTone, HMG, Blue Witch, Blind Pig, Earwig, Putumayo, Random Chance, and the VizzTone Label Group. Many of these acclaimed releases have been nominated for various Handy, Grammy, and Blues Music Awards. Bob is also widely recognized for his many roles in the blues, as band leader, club owner, record producer, radio show host, arts foundation founder, and occasional writer. His amazing website www.bobcorritore.com and his weekly e-newsletter reflect a life thoroughly invested in the blues. Born on September 27, 1956 in Chicago, Bob first heard Muddy Waters on the radio at age 12, an event which changed his life forever. Within a year, he was playing harmonica and collecting blues albums. He would see blues shows in his early teens, including attending a Muddy Waters performance at his high school gymnasium. He would cut his teeth sitting in with John Henry Davis on Maxwell Street until he was old enough to sneak into blues clubs. He hung around great harp players such as Big Walter Horton, Little Mack Simmons, Louis Myers, Junior Wells, Big John Wrencher, and Carey Bell, and received harmonica tips and encouragement from many of them. He would regularly see the Aces, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Billy Boy Arnold, John Brim, Sunnyland Slim, Smokey Smothers, Eddie Taylor, and in many cases became personal friends with these blues veterans.

    OCTOBER 1-3, 2017 GREETINGS FROM DELTA STATE PRESIDENT WILLIAM N. LAFORGE Welcome to Delta State University, the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and the home of the blues! Delta State provides a wide array of educational, cultural, and athletic activities. Our university plays a key role in the leadership and development of the Mississippi Delta and of the State of Mississippi through a variety of partnerships with businesses, local governments, and community organizations. As a university of champions, we boast talented faculty who focus on student instruction and mentoring; award-winning degree programs in business, arts and sciences, nursing, and education; unique, cutting-edge programs such as aviation, geospatial studies, and the Delta Music Institute; intercollegiate athletics with numerous national and conference championships in many sports; and a full package of extracurricular activities and a college experience that help prepare our students for careers in an ever-changing, global economy. Delta State University’s annual International Conference on the Blues consists of three days of intense academic and scholarly activity, and includes a variety of musical performances to ensure authenticity and a direct connection to the demographics surrounding the “Home of the Delta Blues.” Delta State University’s vision of becoming the academic center for the blues — where scholars, musicians, industry gurus, historians, demographers, and tourists come to the “Blues Mecca” — is becoming a reality, and we are pleased that you have joined us.
