Alternate Profile Martin van Vaals from the Netherlands is Senior Sustainability Expert at Rabobank. Responsible for the analysis of clients in high risk sectors as well as client engagement. Prior to that he worked at the bank’s Credit Approvals department as Senior Credit Risk Officer. He held management positions at the Project Finance department (Team Lead Credit Analysis) and the Food & Agribusiness Research department (Deputy Head, Team Lead Commodities). Before joining Rabobank Martin was employed by the ILO, where he held positions in Sierra Leone (project economist in a rural infrastructure project) and Peru (associate expert, multidisciplinary team for the Andean region, focusing on employment policies and small enterprise development). He also worked for the Netherlands Economics Institute, engaged in contract research in many different countries. He started his career at the Maastricht School of Management as a lecturer. Martin is an economist by trade with a degree from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and is fluent in English and Spanish, with a working knowledge of Portuguese. In his free time, he enjoys sports, music and reading. Martin is married with one son.
