Creature Comforts / Classic City Lager DRAFT CREATURE COMFORTS / CLASSIC CITY LAGER ..................................................................................................................... 3/5 Pale Lager / 4.2% ABV / 20 IBU 5oz • 12oz Good Cold Beer. MODERN TIMES / ABADDON ...................................................................................................................................................... 3/5 Helles Lager / 5.5% ABV / 28 IBU 5oz • 12oz Our brewers in Portland got together with our homies at Wayfinder Beer to create this stellar Helles. Naturally carbonated through a method called "spunding," this lager is beautifully bright and effervescent, with subtle hints of toasted bread and honey. Ridiculously drinkable and balanced, Abaddon was brewed with German malts and hopped with Perle abd Hallertau Mittlefruh to give it an expressive take on a traditional style. BURIAL / HELLSTAR ........................................................................................................................................................................ 3/5 Dunkel Lager / 4.8% ABV / 18 IBU 5oz • 16oz Cast into the clutches of eternal damnation. And crucified by all the noise. It’s dark lager. You need to have it but you don’t know it yet. You're infested with deceit. Someone told you that all black beer is heavy. Well that's just stupid. Oh we're as heavy as the chains of Hell. But this beer ain't. Open your heart to evil. Sip on the depths of our black souls. OTHER HALF / DDH MYLAR BAGS ....................................................................................................................................... 4/7/10 DIPA / 8.8% ABV / 55 IBU 5oz • 8oz • 12oz Double dry hopped imperial IPA w / amarillo, citra, el dorado, galaxy + mosaic, oats, wheat w / citra and mosaic lupulin powder. BURIAL / THE TEARING OF FLESH FROM BONE ................................................................................................................ 3/5/7 DIPA / 8.2% ABV / 50 IBU 5oz • 8oz • 12oz Upon this dead earth, I lay encased in a carcass of my past. And the bones beneath this blood-bustling decay exude the only shreds of my future realities. Made with Mosaic and El Dorado hops and a final dose of Mosaic Cryo. J. WAKEFIELD / NUZZLE ............................................................................................................................................................ 3/5/7 Session IPA / 4.5% ABV / 60 IBU 5oz • 8oz • 12oz Batch 003 | Citra & Strata: A juicy and light bodied Session IPA featuring a tropical fruit character along with aromas and flavors of grapefruit, lime, and citrus with a dank herbal note of drifting cannabis. BEARDED IRIS / ATTENTION PLEASE .................................................................................................................................... 4/6/9 DIPA / 8.2% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz Mic check, mic check. It's verbose, yet smooth, and always ready to have the last word. Attention Please! Our all Citra DIPA clocks in at a cool 8.2%.. CIVIL SOCIETY / FRESH .............................................................................................................................................................. 4/6/9 IPA / 6.2% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz IPA with Citra and Columbus hops. FOREST & MAIN / VIMANA ....................................................................................................................................................... 3/5/7 Saison / 6% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz Collaboration with Horus Aged Ales. Hopped with Grungeist and Saphir, fermented with Ambler (PA), British and Danish yeasts. BURIAL / TEMPEST OF THE SWELLING SEA ........................................................................................................................ 3/5/7 Saison / 6.5% ABV / 10 IBU 5oz • 8oz • 12oz A Imagine the disorienting feeling of waking up, alone, in the creaking hull of a boat. The turmoil of the unforgiving sea solely occupies the horizon. More days have past than you can recall, and the way back remains mortally veiled. The vessel about you, once steadfast and true, now a casket adrift in the expanse. Amidst the despair, your senses become heightened. The sting of the restless winds, the brine of the churning sea, and the essence of the wood that surrounds you, all fully mingle in each troubled breath. This experimental ale is meant to submerge you into this place and this experience. It is meant to provoke your senses and transport your mind. Brewed with oysters and aged on mixed culture in oak for many months.. DRAFT PEN DRUID / PART III .................................................................................................................................................................. 4/6/9 American Wild Ale / 6.5% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz A blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old spontaneously fermented ale made in the traditional method. THE RARE BARREL / ACROSS THE SEA ..................................................................................................................................... 6/9 Gose / 5.8% ABV 5oz • 8oz A blend of golden sour beers aged in oak barrels with coriander and sea salt, this beer has whispers of a style almost lost in time. Fermented and soured with a medley of microorganisms, across the sea is where you’ll find the undercurrents of citrus and tides of brine that flow to a bay of liquid gold. TRVE / BURIED SUN ..................................................................................................................................................................... 3/4/6 American Wild Ale / 5.4% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz An amber hued, malt-forward, french-style farmhouse with a moderate acidity and lively carbonation. ARIZONA WILDERNESS / QUADRAPHONIC .......................................................................................................................... 6/9 Belgian Quadrupel / 11.4% ABV 5oz • 8oz A collaboration with dear friends 18th street brewing located in Hammond, Indiana, United States. A Belgian Quad aged in American Oak Port barrels for 13 months with our house mixed culture and then naturally conditioned. TRANSMITTER / W3 .................................................................................................................................................................... 3/5/7 Hibiscus Orange Wit / 6.5% ABV / 48 IBU 5oz • 8oz • 12oz A Belgian style Wit has subtle shades of pink and red from the hibiscus and a bright citrus flavor from the orange peel and hop additions. JACKIE O’S / OIL OF APHRODITE ................................................................................................................................................ 5/8 Imperial Stout / 11.5% ABV 5oz • 8oz Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candied syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by Pacific Northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness. This stout was aged in bourbon barrels for 8 to 12 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A considerable amount of carefully roasted coffee beans were added to awaken one’s senses. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience. HOLY MOUNTAIN / KING’S HEAD .......................................................................................................................................... 4/7/9 Brown Ale / 8% ABV 5oz • 8oz • 12oz King's Head is our double oat Brown ale, brewed with a large portion of malted and unmalted oats, premium two row barley, and specialty english chocolate and Crystal malts, fermented with an expressive English ale strain, this batch of King's Head was then transferred into fresh Kentucky Bourbon barrels and left to age for 1 year. BURIAL / COCOA BOLO (NITRO) ................................................................................................................................................. 4/6 Brown Ale with Cocoa and Coconut/ 6% ABV / 55 IBU 5oz • 16oz Made with loads of chocolate nibs from French Broad Chocolate, piles of coconut, hoards for grain and smatterings of brown sugar. • 2015 Festival Organizers and Staff
Welcome from the President ELCOME TO THE 29TH ANNUAL Great Taste of the Midwest. At a time when we probably should be over- whelmed by the explosive growth of the craft beer industry, we are too busy trying to figure Wout how to make this event a better experience for all. To that end, we are excited that we have maintained the same foot- print as we’ve had in past years, but have added more brewer space, by moving our merch tents and adding a few new tents to a previously restricted staff only area of the park (inside the “loop road”). This allows us bring in some new brewers while continuing to bring back the brewers that you come to expect to see at the Great Taste of the Midwest. I would like to thank Great Taste Chairman, Mark Garthwaite and the multitude of volunteers that make this event happen. We are all very proud that this is the only event of this size that is run by a 100% volunteer effort. Their passion for beer is a large part of what makes a volunteer effort of this size a success. I would also like to thank all of the Brewers that come to the Great Taste of the Midwest. All of “our” passion for beer flows from their passion. As the event has grown and produced more return Brewers each year, we’ve come to think of the Brewers as family coming home every year on the second Saturday in August. Sadly, I have to acknowledge the passing of several MHTG members since the last Great Taste.
