SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY SPEAKERS’ BIOGRAPHY Plenary Session 1: Good Governance, Monitoring & Accountability deriving the Economic Social Development Reforms Ms. Huma Chugtai (Facilitator) – Law and Governance Specialist, Consultant UNAIDS Details: With over 25 years’ experience in areas of governance and human rights, Huma Chughtai is currently Consultant and Specialist at UNAIDS. She has done her LL.M. in International Law of Human Rights from The University of Nottingham United Kingdom. In public sector she has worked with Parliament of Pakistan and Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) and International organization like UNDP, USAID, ADB, CEDAW and UNIFEM. Moreover she has worked as legal expert with IP3, program advisor to UNIFEM and technical advisor to GTZ’s, and Deputy Team Leader of ADB Funded “Legal & Judicial Reform Project”. She has a sound grip over English, French and Arabic. Designation: Consultant and Law & Governance Specialist Organization: UNAIDS Barrister Zafarullah (Key note Speaker) Details: Barrister Zafarullah Khan is serving as Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights since October 21, 2013. He has 30 years of experience of working in diverse fields. He has served in Civil Services of Pakistan, has been a lawyer, consultant, writer and teacher. He joined the District Management Group of the Civil Services of Pakistan in 1987 and served in the Punjab and Sindh Provinces in various administrative and judicial capacities. He resigned from the Service in 2002 to work for Human Rights and Rule of Law. He has worked as legal and human rights consultant on women, children and labour issues with different UN organizations, INGOs and NGOs. He was the Chairman, Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, Collectorate of Customs and Sales Tax, Faisalabad (2004-06). He has taught Law, Human Rights and Designation: Secretary International Relations in International Islamic University, Quaid-e-Azam University, Iqra University, Civil Services Organization: Ministry of Law, Academy, National School of Public Policy, National Police Justice & Human Rights Academy and many other institutions of higher learning and training. SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY Barrister Ahmer Bilal Soofi (Key note Speaker) Details: Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi is an LLM from the University of Cambridge UK in 1998. He is the Senior Partner of a well reputed law firm ABS & Co having its office in Lahore and Islamabad. His areas of expertise include High Courts and Supreme Court litigation and also transactional work. Mr. Soofi has appeared in several cases before the Supreme Court of Pakistan having national importance. He has also advised Government of Pakistan on several important legal issues. He is life member of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and the founding President of Research Society of International Law. He was elected as a Member Advisory Council of United Nations Human Rights Designation: Barrister Council for period of three years in March 2011. Mr. Soofi is also member of the Board of Governors of World Wide Fund for Organization: ABS & Co. Nature Pakistan (WWF). Plenary Session 2: Public Private Partnership in Development Discourse of Pakistan [Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development] Mr. Ali Raza (Facilitator) Details: Strategic thinking and results oriented professional experience in the corporate and development sector for the past eighteen years on varied projects ranging from technical civil engineering to management of multi-dimensional social and natural resources. A key contributor to the monitoring and evaluation, procurement and contract management of extensive civil engineering projects while employed on the World Bank funded project and a multinational construction firm. Worked closely with the Ministry of Education in developing an “Operational Policy” and Implementation framework for Public Private Partnership in Education. Currently working as a Regional Director at Beaconhouse School System, responsible for managing the operations of over 54 schools (33,000 Students) in the Central Region and developing Designation: Country Director Strategic Business Development plans for the region. School System SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY Mr. Kamran Kiyani (Key note Speaker) Details: Kamran Kiyani is a Partner at GEM Performance Consulting. He is a certified Human Behavior Consultant who has implemented breakthrough changes at some of the most admired companies in the Fortune 500. His work is regularly recognized as ‘best practice’ by his client organizations. Kamran also heads the Committee for Social Change, focusing on behavioral change in Green Energy, Water Conservation and Disciplined Decision-making. Having graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Actuarial Science and an MBA, Kamran developed his experience in change management in the insurance and certified change coach 26-28 July, 2010 • Abu Dhabi, UAE medical devices industries in the US. He helps clients deploy OD & change initiatives in a wide range of industries. Organization: GEM Performance Consulting Ms. Seema Aziz (Key note Speaker) Details: Ms. Seema Aziz is the Managing Director of Sefam Private Limited, Pakistan’s largest fashion retailer. She holds a Bachelor of Sciences and LLB degrees from the University of Punjab. She has also recently completed the prestigious OPM (Owner/President Management) program from Harvard Business School. Ms. Aziz is a prolific social activist. She is the Founder and Chairperson of CARE Foundation, the largest non-governmental organization in Pakistan with the aim of providing quality education to underprivileged children. CARE is currently running 234 schools all over Pakistan, educating over 160,000 children. Designation: CEO Being actively involved in improving the educational opportunities for the children of Pakistan, she is on the board of Organization: SEFAM multiple government and private bodies working in the sector. The CARE foundation is currently the world’s second largest school system. SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY Session 3: Tackling Exclusion and Inequality [Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger] Ms. Roshaneh Zafar (Facilitator) Details: Ms. Roshaneh Zafar is the founder of KASHF Microfinance Bank Limited. She is the Managing Director at Kashf Foundation, which was founded by her in 1996. She serves as the Chairwoman of Kashf Holdings (Pvt) Limited and Director of KASHF Microfinance Bank Limited. Ms. Zafar worked with the World Bank for several years, was one of the first Ashoka Fellows in Pakistan and has been a Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur since 2004. She has been awarded Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2007 and also Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for her work in the field of development and Designation: Managing Director women s empowerment. Ms. Zafar is a graduate of the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA and also holds Organization: Kashf Foundation a Masters degree in Development Economics from Yale University, USA. Dr. Aliya H Khan(Key note Speaker) Details: Aliya. H. Khan currently is a professor in the Economics Department at Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. She specializes in Monetary Theory, Human Resource Development and Labor Economics and has done research work on Post Migration Investment in education by Immigrants in U.S which was presented at the Conference on Migration in 1997.Aliya did her Ph.D in economics from University of Illinois at Chicago, USA in 1987 and earlier did her M.A. in social sciences from the same institute. She did her M.Sc in economics from Quaid-i- Designation: Professor Azam University, Islamabad in 1981. Organization: QAU – Economics Department SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY Thematic Session 4: Making Quality Education Accessible [MDG Goal 2: To Achieve Universal Primary Education] Mr. Mosharraf Zaidi (Facilitator) Details: Mosharraf Zaidi is the Campaign Director for Alif Ailaan - a political campaign addressing Pakistan's education crisis. Previously, he held senior positions with governments and various international organizations. His most recent government assignment was as advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan. He has also advised the United Nations, the European Union, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the UK Government's DFID, and the Danish and Swiss governments on policy issues in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the South Asia region. He was honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Designation: Campaign Director Global Leader in 2014. Mr. Zaidi writes a regular column for The News in Pakistan and frequently contributes to television and Organization: Alif Aalan radio, including CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, PTV and Geo News. Mr. Baligh ur Rehman(Key note Speaker) Details: State Minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education and Interior and Narcotics Control. Mr Baligh ur Rehman is the Minister of State of State, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education and Interior Narcotics Control. He is affiliated to Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Sharif) and secured a seat in 2013 elections from Bahawalpur NA- 185 (Bahawalpur-III).
