3 PRISM|SPRING 2008 AGTA SPECTRUM AWARDS™

The AGTA Spectrum Awards™ has been recognizing innovation in designs using colored gemstones and cultured pearls for 25 years. Winning submissions are known to set the trends2008 seen in fashion shows 8 and on the red carpet following the end of each competition. It’s true – if you haven’t followed the awards, you might not understand what you’re missing. “Every time I see something new, it gives me a great feeling knowing the designers are really committing themselves to something spe cial.” –Betty Sue King, King’s Ransom

The 2008 AGTA Spectrum Awards™ competition was certainly no exception. The creativity exhibited in this year’s submissions was extraordinary and recognized by those who saw the entire collection first- hand. A media event was held to give editors of trade and consumer maga- zines, fashion stylists and costume designers the opportunity to preview the entire collection of almost 500 entries. Each attendee was escorted throughout the display by members of the AGTA Spectrum Committee so he/she could ask questions and get contact information for pieces of inter- est. AGTA was proud to host almost 40 media attendees from publications such as JCK, Modern Jeweler, National Jeweler, Rapaport, W Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, O – The Oprah Magazine and People.

“There’s talk these days of jewelry as a art, but here you come and see a real vision.” –Victoria Gomelsky, Couture International Jeweler

Four distinguished members of the industry were enlisted to participate as judges and realize the Award’s vision while representing different areas of expertise: Peter Roth, Peter Yurman, Metalsmith Rudi Wobito, Wobito Gems, Lapidary Jane Bohan, Jane Bohan, Designer Andrea Linnett, Lucky Magazine, Media

A great deal of time was spent examining each entry to assess beauty, wearability, innovative design, effective use of materials, quality of gem- stones, quality of workmanship and broad-base consumer appeal. This rigorous judging process yielded an amazing collection of jewelry and gemstones that proudly represent the 2008 AGTA Spectrum Awards™ Winning Collection.

“What’s truly amazing is how a designer can just think in space, render it and then articulate it and bring it to life.” –Michael O’Conner, Guild International USA
