2000 Community Homecoming Script

1 Police Vehicle The sighting of the City of Fort Collins Police car means the parade has officially started! So sit back and enjoy watching parade entries from the business community, municipal government, school district and State University! This should be great fun! 2 Banner Carriers Today's parade begins with a banner carried by junior girl scouts from Dunn Elementary, Julie Brokish and Renee Wanger continue the tradition of having girl scouts carry the banner announcing the parade theme: Bring!11g the World Horne. 3 Combined Foot Color Guard We learned that it is not only traditional, but a statute that the parade is led by a color guard of active duty military personnel. Today's color guard is comprised of local recruiters from the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, United States Army and the United States Air Force. 4 Wing Walker Honor Guard The Wing Walker Honor Guard is commanded by Cadet and Lieutenant James Rosner. They are national champions in four-rnan exhibition drill and 2nd and 3'ct in the nation in inspection and overall competition. This year they will be competing in the Southern California Invitational Drill meet and at the National Invitation Drill meet at the Air Force Academy. The Wing Walker Drill Team is an elite group of cadets who provide color-guard support at most Ram athletic events as well as university events. They have consistently been ranked in the top three units in national drill competition for the past several years. The Wing Walkers represent the pride and honor of CSU's Air Force ROTC.

5 Mounted Color Guard A new feature of today's parade is a mounted color guard which certainly adds a patriotic touch to see our country's flag displayed atop these beautiful horses. 6 Street Sweeper Looks like the parade organizers are being kind this year and doing a little in-progress clean-up before the CSU Band has to dodge any road apples! 7 CSU Cheerleaders The CSU cheerleaders represent the university at athletic events, and many community events. These student-athletes bring enthusiasm, spirit and tremendous athletic ability as they perform their routines that include incredible acrobatics. Go Rams! 8 CSU Golden Porns The CSU Golden Porns work on their dance routines for many weeks and months and perform at CSU football and basketball games. Their dance routines are choreographed to music performed by the CSU Marching Band. 9 CSU Flag Team The CSU Flag Team is part of the CSU Marching Band. These young ladies audition for membership on the Flag Team and travel with the Band to perform at CSU football games. 10 CSU Marching Band With 158 members in the CSU marching band, the Golden Porns, Cheerleaders and Flag Team perform at football games and other community events. 11 CAM the Ram CAM the Ram, official Colorado State University mascot since 1949 and 17th in succession is pulled by a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban donated to the CAM the Ram program by Mike Shaw Chevrolet of and Colorado Springs. CAM is a three-year-old Rambouillet ram that lives at the CSU College of Agricultural Sciences Animal Sciences Department research farm. The Ram handlers are full-time CSU students who are selected annually following competitive tryouts. They are responsible for delivering CAM to athletic, alumni, agricultural and community events.

12 CSU Alumni Marching Band Dust off your instruments and practice your tunes as we welcome the CSU Alumni Marching Band celebrating their 7th year in the homecoming parade. Graduates from 1957 to 1999 are "Bringing the World Home" as they play familiar tunes and demonstrate their marching techniques. You can see more of the Alumni Marching band as they join the CSU Marching band in pre-game field performances at tonight's homecoming game.

13 1950 Fire Engine Here's a 1950 American LaFrance Pumper, which used to be the Longmont Engine #3. This vehicle is owned by Roger and Nancy Rogers of Fort Collins, who are carrying members of the local Elks Lodge.

14 Northern Colorado New Horizons Band Northern Colorado New Horizons band was formed in 1997 to give adults 50 and older an opportunity to learn to play a band instrument, or to renew skills of those who may have played many years ago. The band performs in many parades and events throughout Northern Colorado. Join the band by calling Boomer Music Company.

15 Egg & I The Egg & I Restaurants presents the famous Wienermobile! This 27-foot long futuristic "wiener" is really a state of the art vehicle with great video equipment inside. There are six wienermobiles on the road throughout the U.S. The Egg & I proudly serves Oscar Mayer products at their local restaurants. Tyler Zander, riding in a Saab donated by Tynans, would like to say thank you to Fort Collins and Colorado for all the love, prayers and donations that are being sent his way. Thank you everyone!

16 Dr. Don Unger Dr. Don Unger joins us for today's parade. Dr. Unger is the Superintendent of Schools for . The school district covers a geographical area of over 1,850 miles, and has 45 schools pre-kindergarten through 12th grade which serve the educational needs of over 23,800 students. 17 Board of Education The Poudre School District Board of Education are the elected leaders of the school district. This seven-member board meets twice each month to carry out the vision of PSD, to promote a safe environment while leading an accountable learning community which challenges all students to achieve, to their highest potential, the knowledge, skills and commitment needed to be fulfilled, productive members of society in a changing world. 18 FCHS Student Council And here comes Fort Collins High School Student Council with their float titled "Bringing Fort Collins Home." They have created their own baseball field and are sliding horne in the own creative way! The students are appropriately dressed in FCHS baseball uniforms and they are very excited to be here today! 19 FCHS Faculty /Staff Corning horne to a quality education. The Fort Collins faculty and staff are celebrating the great things that are happening in our classrooms every day. 20 FCHS National Honor Society Fort Collins High School National Honor Society is a group of juniors and seniors who work hard to maintain a high grade point average, establish good relations with the community and volunteer many hours for community service. 21 FCHS Boosters "Bringing the World Horne" is a common phrase at Fort Collins High School as we welcome many international students to our school. Students from Brazil, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Japan and other distant places add richness and variety to our student body. We hope they reap many benefits from their time with us. Boosters is the oldest club at Fort Collins High School and promotes school spirit for all activities at the school. Fort Collins High School Boosters sends a big HELLO to all. 22 Fort Collins High School Band The Fort Collins High School Band is directed by Mike Smith. The 160 band members call themselves the Purple Regiment.

23 Bishop Michael Bergman of the Old Catholic Church of Antioch Bishop Michael Bergman is the Bishop for the State of Colorado archdioceses. We welcome him as a dignitary in today's parade. Many of the dignitaries today are riding in vintage cars donated and driven by members of the Fort Collins Antique Car Club. 24 Lincoln Junior High The Lincoln Junior High float was made by the students in Dave Schlehuber's class. His students contributed all the decorations and beds. Li8ncoln Junior High has an undefeated 8th grade football team coached by former Denver Bronco Vance Johnson and the school boasts one of the best peer rnediationprograrns in the district. Veterans/Patriotic Division

25 The next portion of this year's Community Homecoming Parade is a contingent of our nation's military, veterans and Air Force ROTC. Our veterans, who are serving and have served the people of this great country in their quest for freedom and peace, proudly carry the Flag of the United States of America.

25a Stanley Steemer Carpet Cleaner Vehicle and Boy Scouts of America Stanley Steemer graciously provided the vehicle that carries the Boy Scouts who are now distributing the American flag to the spectators. Please wave your flag with pride! These American flags were donated through the generosity of several organizations and individuals, all of which believe that our nation's flag should be respected and carried proudly.

25b Rocky Mountain Chapter- 82nd Airborne Division Association Our Airborne Veterans are here today from all over Colorado and Wyoming to display proudly the colors and guidons of Airborne units of our nation. Three generations of paratroopers, glidermen, Ranger and Special Forces represent the "All Airborne" Rocky Mountain Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association. They are a brotherhood of veterans of many wars for freedom: WWII, Korea, VietNam, Granada and Desert Storm. This chapter includes veterans from all Airborne units past and present. Today's 82nd Airborne, the contingency division for the United States, is ready at a moment's notice to jump directly into combat anywhere in the world and to fight until reinforced. They are "America's Guard of Honor."

Their first float is a reminder of the price paid by many American soldiers for "A Small Piece Of Real Estate". This is just a reminder of what was done to ensure that those of us today could continue to live in a free country, the greatest country in the world. God Bless America!

Our second float carries senior veterans, many of whom are recipients of the Purple Heart as well as other service medals awarded them during their military service. Because of old wounds or just old Father Time, they can no longer walk in this parade proudly; they will, however, ride proudly! Also riding is a paratrooper in full combat gear.

25c Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1781/ American Legion Post #4 Combined Color Guard The members of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1781 and the American Legion Post #4 proudly carry the American Flag and their respective unit flags.

25d Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1781- Ft. Collins These gentlemen are Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The VFW Post 1781 welcomes and serves all Veterans of foreign wars and conflicts from World War I to Bosnia. The decorated Volkswagon, part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars element, plays patriotic songs_p_opular then and now. 25e American Legion - Post #4 - Ft. Collins American Legion Post #4 is represented by its members. The American Legion is a service organization that supports this community with a variety of programs, including: Boys State, Oratorical Contest and American Legion Baseball. They are always in need of members to support their causes.

25f Marine Corps League Color Guard with Two Antique Cars The Marine Corps League, founded in 1923, is represented today by its Northern Colorado Detachment. Marines from WWI formed a national organization that now exceeds 40,000 members. These members of past honorable service to the Corps remain loyal in preserving their proud tradition by indemnifying their credo: ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE. The two antique cars you see further embellish the many years their organization has existed. Major General John H. Buckner

26a Civil Air Patrol Color Guard The Thompson Valley Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, Color Guard is commanded by Cadet Senior Airman Rachael Dietz.

26b CSU Air Force ROTC with Miniature Air Force Fighter Jet The CSU Air Force ROTC has provided the Miniature Air Force Fighter Jet you see. This float is the Air Force Association's "Salute to Air Force ROTC", and it carries and is accompanied by several of their cadets.

26c Disabled American Veterans - Chapter #5 The Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #5 is a service organization that assists disabled veterans with transportation to Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Denver and Cheyenne. The Disabled American Veterans assist their sick and disabled brothers so as to provide a continuum of care and support when the need is there. 27 Bennett Elementary Straight from the jungles of Fort Collins comes this entry from Bennett Elementary. Bennett Elementary uses the International Baccalaureate program, which encourages students to explore their world every day and bring that knowledge home to all of us. 28 Mary Johnson Mary Johnson is one-half of the teaching team that Johnson Elementary School is named after. Curtis Johnson, longtime music instructor at FCHS, and Mary together touched the lives of hundreds of students throughout their tenure in Poudre School District.

29 Timnath Elementary School Timnath Elementary School is commemorating the 100th year birthday of its original red brick schoolhouse with a yearlong centennial celebration. The original building was constructed in 1900 as a one-room schoolhouse and now serves as the school cafeteria. Timnath's entry in the parade is a replica of the original schoolhouse surrounded by alumni from when Timnath was a high school. The shade tree has handprints of current students. We would like to welcome back home Duane and Elsie Fisher from the classes of 1943 and 1945, Tom Brown and Very Shilling from the class of 1950, and Ray Hernandez from the class of 1960. Please join them and us in wising Timnath School a very Happy 100th Birthday! 30 Clear Channel Clear Channel's four Northern Colorado radio stations -107.9 the Bear, 96.1 Country 96, 600 KCOL Newstalk and 1410 KIIX Sports Radio provide Northern Colorado a "World of Choice" in listening enjoyment.

31 Fife and Drum Corps The Fife and Drum Corps was founded in 1999 to promote and support through music and marching, the principles and tenets set fourth in the Declaration of Independence and established in the Constitution of the United States. As was the case of many who served and fought in the war of independence, the Fife and Drum Corps is made up of all volunteers who reflect their differences in their period costumes. Each member provides their own costume, instrument, flag or other period accessory and rehearses and practices marching addition to fulfilling other family responsibilities. Following the Fife and Drum are volunteer members who are carrying an oversized copy of the Declaration of Independence and are handing out copies of the Constitution of the United States.

33 Ray Martinez, Mayor Mayor Ray Martinez is riding in the Centennial Bank Stage Coach in today's parade. The mayor is elected by popular vote and serves as the leader of the Fort Collins City Council. Mayor Martinez recently read a proclamation declaring October as Community Homecoming month. He's pleased to join you here today.

34 John Fischbach, City Manager John Fischbach is the City Manager of the City of Fort Collins. Mr. Fischbach oversees the city's daily operations, and serves the seven-member city council. In the rapidly­ changing landscape of city planning, Mr. Fischbach is a great supporter of the Community Homecoming parade as it brings citizens from every walk of life together to celebrate the place we call hom.

35 This year, employees from the City of Fort Collins have joined together to show their community spirit. From police and fire to Libraries and parks, from bike trails and buses to neighborhoods and electricity, the City offers a wide variety of services to our residents. Fort Collins' City employees are proud to be serving you at home!" • 36 This 1937 Diamond T fire truck originally served as part of the Fort Collins Municipal Fire Department. The aerial ladder was added in 1952. It is now part of the Fort Collins Museum's collection.

37 The EDORA community skate park is coming! This free skate park for kids of all ages and abilities will bumps, banks, bowls and smiles, But, we need your help! 38 The Fort Collins Senior Center council assists and advises the administrative staff in matters regarding the operation of the Fort Collins Senior Center and are elected representatives from the senior membership. The Senior Center is home to all adults wanting life enrichment experiences. Come visit!

Fox! 40 CSU Prevet Club The CSU Prevet Club has designed this float in honor of today's theme, Bringing the World Home! The CSU Veterinary Hospital is recognized throughout the state, nation and internationally as a premier veterinary teaching hospital. 41 Delphine Lopez Delphine Lopez is the wife of William Lopez, namesake of Lopez Elementary School. Lopez has an enrollment of over 525 students. Their colors are hot pink and purple and the outstanding staff serves students in the west-central part of Fort Collins. The Lopez Lasers say thanks to Mrs. Lopez for her support.

42 Lopez Elementary Lopez Elementary School's entry is a salute to all the volunteer Fire Fighters who helped extinguish this summer's forest fires. Lopez extends its appreciation to all those who came to Colorado, Larimer County and local communities to save the forested lands and wildlife that make our community a great place to call horne. This year's float depicts a mountain forest fire threatening a mountain cabin. The riders are costumed as Hot Shots working to build a fire line and save a horne in imminent danger. The Bobcat Gulch and other local Colorado forest fires brought national attention to a major threat to the natural areas and environment that "Brings the World Home" to Fort Collins. 43 Foothills Gateway Foothills Gateway is a non-profit, charitable organization supporting persons with developmental disabilities and their families in Larimer County. Foothills Gateway is currently working with over 700 individuals providing services in early childhood intervention, therapy, family support, supported employment, community employment and supervised residential services. Our mission is to facilitate a coordinated community effort dedicated to challenging and supporting citizens with developmental disabilities to achieve their maximum potential and independence.

44 ASCSU Pacesetters The Associated Students of Colorado State University are proud to present the 2000 Pacesetters. These students have excelled academically and have been involved in diverse activities on campus and in our community. Thanks to these individuals for continuing a proud CSU tradition and congratulations!

45 Rocky Mountain High School Band The Rocky Mountain High School Band from here in Fort Collins is directed by Casey Cropp and Heather Landon. The band boasts 150 members and competes in the Class 5 category. Today's bands are part of the annual CSU Band Days where area bands are judged on their routines. Rocky Mountain High School has a student enrollment of 1740.

46 Rocky Mountain High School Student Council Rocky Mountain High School's float is a model of Horsetooth Rock. They chose this idea because Horsetooth is a well-known landmark to the community. The kids around the float are dressed as people and landmarks from all over the world, welcoming the world to Fort Collins and promoting diversity within our community. 47 Rocky Mountain High School Umbrella Brigade This premier precision umbrella brigade is made up of faculty and staff at Rocky Mountain High Schoot and believe it or not, they have been winners in previous parades. Although they did not enter last year's parade, we're very excited to have them return this year! 48 Blevins Junior High The Blevins Bruins are bringing the world home by celebrating the diversity of its students. The float symbolizes the welcome feeling that all Bruins have on a daily basis at Blevins. We are all a family of the world and Blevins Junior High is our home 49 Raymond Kruse Leading the Kruse Elementary entry is Ray Kruse, namesake of the school which opened in 1992. Mr. Kruse enjoyed a long and successful career in Poudre School District and impacted the lives of thousands of students and student athletes during his tenure. 50 Children's Workshop The Children's Workshop early learning center on Silverplume Drive provides a creative, innovative place for children to grow and learn. Children are allowed to explore and create through a well thought out curriculum and an energetic teaching team. Programs are developed around ages one through 12 that include toddles, preschool, preK and kindergarten and an after school program. Stop by and see the difference! 51 Jim & Nadine Henry Representing the CSU Alumni Center are Jim and Nadine Henry, CSU Alumni of the Century! They are being driven in today's parade by Betty and Joel Husted in their vintage 1941 Lincoln Continental convertible. Welcome back to CSU and Fort Collins Jim and Nadine! 52 O'Dea Elementary Even though planet Earth is not our home, we chose to visit here because of the many wonderful places and creatures that are found here. At the beginning of our trip we visited the continent of Eurasia. We were able to find many souveniors to take horne with us like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Eiffel Tower and part of the Great Wall of China. Next we traveled in our spaceship to North America where we found the Statue of Liberty! We also found the Great Pyramids of Egypt and Big Ben. Our suitcase is bulging! 53 Fort Collins Jaycees The Junior Chamber of Commerce is an international organization formed in 1920. The Fort Collins chapter was founded in 1938 has a long tradition of coordinating community service projects, fundraising and training future leaders. 54 Riffenburgh Elementary Riffenburgh elementary- Bringing the World Horne Through Education. Reading, writing and arithmetic are just the beginning. Our goal is to make all students feel welcome. Our dedicated teachers open the door to a love of learning, while teaching respect for others and for the world we live in. Every day and in many ways, Riffenburgh is "Bringing the World Home." 55 Brook's Twirlers Brook's Twirlers are young ladies who enjoy the sport of baton twirling. They compete in baton contests throughout the year and participate in parades, and talent shows. They are taught by Brooke Baker, former feature twirler for the University of Colorado Marching Band. They are kids in America, Twirling in the Millennium. 56 Poudre High School Band The Poudre High School Impalas boast 140 band members under the direction of Corry Petersen and Mike Zentner. They also compete in the Class 5 category and have a student body of 1,750 students.

57 Wells Fargo Bank Wells Fargo Bank sponsors this vintage stage coach drawn by four horses. Riders provide 'ballast' for a smoother ride! 58 Kappa Delta and Tau Kappa Epsilon The ladies of Kappa Delta and the gentlemen of Tau Kappa Epsilon joined up this year to bring back your favorite 80's TV shows. These include Scooby Doo, CHIPs and the Dukes of Hazard. The Kappa Deltas were awarded "Best Sorority on CSU campus" for the second year in a row this past spring. The men of Tau Kappa Epsilon received best President, best Philanthropy and third best fraternity on CSU campus. 59 Saturn of Fort Collins Saturn of Fort Collins is proud to be part of the Community Homecoming Parade with "Corning Horne in Style." And, what better way to come horne than in Saturn's gold limousine!

61 Boys and Girls Clubs Boys and Girls Clubs youth members supported and participated in a wonderful program called Everest 2000. Torn Cower successfully climbed Everest and took the kids along via e-mail. He continues to work with the children now.

62 Fort Collins Lions Club The Fort Collins Lions Club provides assistance to the visually and hearing impaired within our community, providing vision and hearing screenings as well as working with youth to teach them the value of service.

63 Million Morn March Let's welcome the newly formed Larimer County Chapter of the Million Morn March. We are a national, grassroots organization dedicated to preventing gun death and injury and supporting victims and survivors of gun trauma. We are concerned community members who have lost a loved one, survived an injury, or recognized that no one is immune to our national epidemic of gun death and injury. We have come together to save lives by working for the adoption of stronger gun laws and offer compassionate support to victims and survivors of gun trauma.

64 Association for Student Activity Programming The Association for Student Activity Programming is traveling horne to CSU with a whole new face of entertainment. You never through entertainment could be this good! 65 Larimer County Dive Rescue The Larimer county Dive Rescue Team is a non-profit organization committed to raising public awareness about water safety and responding when accidents do occur. The team works with school children, community organizations and the Larimer County Sheriff's Department to raise awareness of water safety procedures. Nonetheless, the team continues to practice and training. They realize that while accidents are avoidable, they do happen.

66 Ranum High School Band The Ranun High School Band represents Ranum High School in Denver Colorado with at student body of 1,800 students. The band has 61 members under the direction of Greg Haan.

67 Brownie McGraw Brownie McGraw is the namesake of McGraw Elementary School which opened in the fall of 1992 and has an enrollment of approximately 550 students. Brownie was principal of Lincoln Junior High and Rocky Mountain High School. She currently works for the Larimer County District Attorney's Office. 68 McGraw Elementary The students and parents from McGraw Elementary bring the world home by celebrating the events and countries in the 2000 Olympics and winter Olympics. Swimming, soccer, gymnastics and cycling events (we decided against archery and the javelin throw). The students and their parents painted over 40 flags from various countries. 69 Student Organization of Gays, Lesbians and Bisexuals The Student Organization of Gays, Lesbians and Bisexuals is a student-run organization aimed at providing education ·and social activities as well as support to members of the GLBT community and its allies.

70 Collegiate Horsemen's Association Collegiate Horsemen's Association seeks to unite other equine clubs, college of Agriculture and the Fort Collins community in order to familiarize its members with all aspects of the equine industry. 71 Wellington Junior High Wellington Junior High School, located in the town of Wellington, Colorado, understands that the world is a big, big place! We checked and there are other Wellington's in South Africa, new Zealand and all over the United States We work every day in our school to bring the world home by making sure that our school is safe, welcoming and full of school spirit. At our sChool, everyone has a passport to learn! Wellington Junior High School is the best-kept secret in Poudre School District! 72 Beattie Elementary Beattie Elementary School chose to salute our hard-working firefighters for fighting all the summer fires. Our mascot is the bighorn sheep. We are glad to be a part of the Community Homecoming Parade! 73 James Butzek is the vice president of Front Range Community College Larimer Campus. The campus serves more than 3,800 students and offers 90 certificate and degree programs. Formerly the Larimer County Voc-Tech Center, FRCC has become a leader in offering opportunities for life-long learning in Larimer County. 74 Lesher Junior High The Vikings are Lesher's mascot. Lesher students have built a Viking ship, which is bringing the world to Fort Collins, Lesher and CSU. Our diverse student body is dressed representing their country of origin. 75 CSU Swing Society The CSU Swing Society is re-enacting the return of US soldiers from WWII. During wartime, US GI's made swing music and swing dancing popular. Swing became an anti­ fascist symbol and a call to nationalism during the war era.

76 G & S Equipment Keith Glaser of G & S Equipment shows us his collection of tractors circa 1944-1958. Keith has been collecting tractors for the past 17 years as a hobby and gets great enjoyment in showing his collection. These are good examples of bringing the world food.

77 CSU Range Club This year the CSU Range Club is traveling to Kana Hawaii, for the annual Society for Range Management meeting. To celebrate this "Range Homecoming," the students have donned their Hawaiian clothes and are relaxing at the beach listening to tropical tunes. The club travels to Hawaii in February to represent CSU in multiple exams, a poster competition, and a speaking contest. Good luck Range Club and Aloha! 78 Camp Fire Boys and Girls Campfire Boys and Girls have returned to defend their 1999 Sweepstakes trophy with this entry depicting tonight's homecoming victory of UNLV. As in years past, their entire float was constructed by the five, six-year-old boys ·and their parents. Their entry in this year's parade reflects their hard work and effort. 153 Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. is the largest non-traditional Latino fraternity in the nation. They have been active on the CSU campus for 10 years as the Iota chapter. 154 Santa Cops of Larimer County Santa Cops has been in existence for several years and involves law enforcement personnel from the CSU Police Department, Larimer County Sheriffs Office, Loveland Police, Colorado State Patrol and the Fort Collins Police Services. Uniformed officers deliver presents to children who normally wouldn't have a very Merry Christmas. Santa Cops works strictly from donations and last year provided gifts to more than 2,500 kids throughout Larimer County.
