Behind the Scenes at Scentsy Events Scentsy events are exciting, informative, inspiring, and full of Scentsy spirit. Not to mention FUN. From Convention, to Spring Sprint, to World Tour, to incentive trips, to Boot Camp, to the Leadership Retreat—nothing can replace the in- person experience of being surrounded and welcomed by Scentsy people. Now that Scentsy has grown to over 100,000 enrolled Consultants, managing and planning these events is more challenging than ever. Our Events team works hard to make your experience memorable and seamless. They do everything they can to accommodate special requests and unique needs. But Scentsy also has to consider financial and contractual commitments with the many, many vendors who help us make each event possible. That’s where the deadlines, cancellation cutoff dates, capacity limits, and terms and conditions come in. We wish we could accommodate everyone who wants to attend—even those who make a last-minute request—but in order for an event to happen at all, there are a few cold, hard facts to consider.

Jan Registration Deadlines and Capacity Limits Even though there will never be an ideal deadline for everyone (especially when “everyone” means 100,000+ people), deadlines are necessary for planning and financial purposes. Registration for all Scentsy events remains open until the published closing date or until capacity is reached—whichever comes first. As with any event (Scentsy or otherwise), the longer you wait to sign up or buy a ticket, the greater the risk the event will be sold out.

Cancellations and Refunds Cancellation and refund cutoff dates are important because, after a certain point, Scentsy is financially responsible for everyone who registered. In addition, most events are heavily subsidized. For example, the Consultant price for Convention 2010 was $200, but Scentsy’s actual cost per Consultant was $400. If a Consultant registered and then cancelled after the cutoff date, Scentsy still had to pay twice what the Consultant paid even though the Consultant didn’t show up. We also have cancellation fees even for those who cancel before the cutoff date because it costs Scentsy considerable work and expense for every registration and cancellation. This is not a policy unique to Scentsy—nonrefundable deposits are common with airlines, hotels, or any tour operator. We understand that emergencies and accidents do happen, which is why we recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover your expenses in case an unforeseen event forces you to cancel.

Terms and Conditions: the Fine Print We know it’s no fun to read terms and conditions (writing them is not exactly a barrel of monkeys either!). However, the terms and conditions (T&Cs) published for every Scentsy event spell out essential information about deadlines, refund policies, special circumstances, and legal responsibilities for you and for Scentsy. It’s important to read the T&Cs so you can make an informed decision about whether you are willing to accept these terms before registering for a Scentsy event. While some T&Cs remain the same from event to event, there will always be certain elements unique to each event, making it important to read them every time you register.

ayS! Giveaw Promotions and Giveaways Scentsy sometimes offers incentives or promotions to encourage people to register early. Because these are time-based, there will inevitably be some Consultants who miss the chance to participate. We understand how frustrating this can be, but please keep in mind it wouldn’t be fair to make exceptions for a few people unless we could make the same exceptions for thousands, which just isn’t possible. The good news is we have promotions and incentives regularly and often. So if you miss one, don’t despair because the next one will be along any minute! In the case of giveaways—like the free new product kit we’re giving to all Spring Sprint attendees!—you must actually be present to receive them. It’s sad but true that some people have registered for events with no intention of coming just to get the free product. The giveaways are meant to encourage people to participate, and the cost and labor involved in packaging and shipping individual giveaway kits would be prohibitive. We wish all of you great success in achieving your next incentive trip, and we thank you for your Scentsy spirit and understanding!

New “Slim” Party Testers are Coming! Early next year, Scentsy will replace our existing Party Testers with new, improved, slimmer Party Testers! Scentsy Open House We’d like to thank everyone who attended our Halloween-themed Open House last month. We had an incredible turnout—and it was great to see everyone enjoying our new home offices and meeting other Consultants, employees, and their families. Decorate Wicklessly Several of you submitted photos for the Halloween category for Decorate Wicklessly, but the contest isn’t over yet! We recently experienced an issue with Flickr and were unable to restore the Decorate Wicklessly site to its original functionality. Unprofessional Behavior on TCU Alumni and Facebook Sites The Scentsy Compliance Department just learned Scentsy Consultants have been spamming the TCU alumni and Facebook sites, posting sales pitches and photos and linking to their Personal Websites in the attempt to boost sales of our new TCU Campus Collection Warmer. These Consultants are violating the TCU site guidelines and terms of use. They are also causing a lot of extra work for the TCU alumni volunteers who maintain these sites and must keep them free of inappropriate material. If you have posted any product or promotional content to any TCU-related website or fan page, please remove it immediately. Aggressive promotional tactics like this are disrespectful and unprofessional, and they create a negative impression of Scentsy in the marketplace.

This photo was taken not long ago in Sharana, Afghanistan. The woman on the right is Diana Boutin, who became a Scentsy Consultant just two months prior to her deployment with the U.S. Army. With her husband (to her right) and a few additional members of the B Co. 8-101 Battalion out of Fort Campbell, KY, she hosted one of her first Scentsy parties.

“The moment I attended a Scentsy party I fell in love with the candles,” Diana said. “I feel I need to share Scentsy with everyone I know!” Diana’s Director, Kristen Blogg, shared her incredible story and a few photos from the party. Roarbert the Lion looks pretty intimidating surrounded by all that military muscle! In light of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday—and a very recent Veteran’s Day—I’m especially mindful of the sacrifice made by Diana and others like her. How wonderful is it that we live in a land where people are willing to give up their time and safety to protect others? It touches my heart to see their smiles, and it’s such a blessing to know that—just maybe—Scentsy contributed to those smiles. Give thanks for the wonderful blessings in your life, whether they be family, friends, or a successful, fulfilling career. Enjoy the delicious meals and festivities this holiday season. Cherish the time spent with family and friends, and remember those who serve our country, on Thanksgiving and always, far from the comforts of home and loved ones. Updates From Account Services

Account Cancellations Postponed As announced in the November 2 Weekly Update email, account cancellations that were scheduled for November 1, 2010, have been postponed until December 1, 2010. We hope this opportunity for an additional month to meet the requirement of 150 PRV in one month within a three-month period will help more Consultants achieve or maintain “current” status. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to request an individual account cancellation. Laurie Willis, Account Services Manager Consultant Permission List Consultants can authorize family members, employees, or other third parties to conduct business on their behalf—including contacting Consultant Support and receiving information relative to their accounts. Just email your permission requests to [email protected], and be sure to include the full name of the person or persons you’d like to grant permission to. Our Account Services team will include the list of authorized names in the “notes” section of your account. If you need someone to call on your behalf, remind them to ask the Consultant Support Representative to check the notes section on your account to verify whether your permission has been given. You can add or remove someone from your permission list at any time by emailing [email protected].

Spouses and Scentsy Accounts Spouses of Scentsy Consultants are considered co-owners of the Consultant’s Scentsy account, but we can only give account information to a spouse if their name is listed in the co-applicant field of the account page. To add your spouse’s name to your account, send an email request to: [email protected].

Business Entity Names And speaking of names—remember, Business Entity names cannot include “Scentsy” or derivatives of “Scentsy” as part of the name. If you or Consultants in your downline want to list their accounts under a Business Entity Tax ID, or EIN, please review the Business Entity FAQ as well as the Business Entity Form located in the Resources Library of the Workstation for guidelines.

Account Transfers Frequently Asked Questions Q. Can I transfer my Scentsy account to another Consultant? A. Yes, you may transfer your account to an existing Consultant, but they must cancel their existing account before accepting the transfer. Q. Can I transfer my Scentsy account to my spouse? A. You do not need to officially transfer your account to your spouse. You can change the name on the account to your spouse’s name by emailing [email protected] with your permission, providing your spouse’s information (name, Social Security Number, and date of birth) with the request.

Q. How much does it cost to transfer my Scentsy account to someone else? A. Scentsy does not charge a fee to transfer an account. As outlined in Scentsy, Inc. Policies and Procedures Section 4.8, the transferor of the account could ask the transferee to purchase the account, but that transaction would be between the two parties involved. Q. Can I accept an account transfer if I am a current Scentsy Consultant? A. You may accept a transfer after cancelling your existing account. Q. If I accept the transfer of another Scentsy account, can I keep my contact information from my former account? A. Your former account will be cancelled. You will not have access to information listed on that account. You could print your contact information from your former account prior to the account being closed. Q. If I accept the transfer of another Scentsy account, can I keep the URL I have been using with my former account? A. Yes. You would need to include this request at the time you submit the Account Transfer Form. Email [email protected] with the request. Q. If I accept the transfer of another Scentsy account, will my volume from my previous account transfer over? A. No, nothing from the previous account will be transferred to your new account. Q. If I accept the transfer of another Scentsy account, can I keep the downline from my original account? A. Downline does not transfer to the new account. If, however, you are accepting the transfer of the account of your Sponsor, your downline would roll up to you as the new owner of your Sponsor’s account because your original account will be cancelled. Q. When will the account transfer be effective? A. On the first day of the month following the date the form was notarized. Q. When will I see my name and information changed on the account I am accepting the transfer of? A. Sales Tax Update—October 24, 2010 As state tax revenues have declined due to a difficult economy, state departments of revenue have become increasingly aggressive in the pursuit of sales tax collection measures. Legislation has been created to capture taxes in areas that were previously undefined, such as e–commerce. Tax laws have been enacted surrounding Host Rewards as the direct sales industry is one of the nation’s fastest–growing markets. An example includes assessing sales tax on the suggested retail price of a product rather than on its actual selling price. In an effort to maintain its good standing with state authorities, Scentsy will observe requirements of state tax laws. Effective October 24, 2010, two updates will be implemented in the administration of sales tax to comply with state sales tax regulations. The updates include: 1) Sales tax charged in applicable states on Personal Websites. 2) Sales tax charged in applicable states on the suggested retail price of half-priced items purchased with Host Rewards.

States Requiring Sales Tax on Suggested Retail Price of Half-Priced Items Purchased with Host Rewards Product Credit A large number of states require a remittance of sales tax based on the Gross Selling Price of the item before the reduction in price resulting from a Host credit. For example, if you reside in Arizona and have a party with sufficient sales to be granted a $30 warmer for half price ($15), sales tax would be owed on the full $30 gross price, even though $15 was the net price of the product following the Host credit redemption. States to which this tax treatment applies include Arizona, Arkansas, California, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia.

It’s so heartwarming to hear your stories—keep sharing them with us, and keep up the good work! Here are excerpts from a few of our favorites*:

In August, a friend at church asked us to lift up her five–year-old niece in prayer—she was being taken to the hospital because she was unresponsive. Within 24 hours, little Leighton passed away. It was completely sudden and unexpected— she had cancer that had wrapped itself around her brainstem. Her parents had no warning, except for the occasional headache. Leighton not only left behind her mommy and daddy, but a three–year-old sister named Mylea. I decided to give her Molly the Monkey—what more could a little girl need right now than a friend? Her aunt talked to me a few weeks later and told me Mollie had certainly found a best friend in Mylea. It simply blessed my heart! Who knew that a little stuffed friend would bring peace to a little girl’s broken heart? —Amanda J.

My team recently donated Buddies to a family whose daddy was killed in a car accident. We’ve decided to make this an ongoing act of generosity this holiday season—we’re calling it the “Buddy Brigade!” —Mandy V.

My brother and his wife just became foster parents to twin two–year-old boys. So since it’s my first time being an aunt, and because I’m a Scentsy Consultant, getting Scentsy Buddies for them was at the top of my list! Last week I walked in with Mollie the Monkey and Roarbert the Lion. It was so cute. One of the boys said “mine” and grabbed Mollie right away. The other one—who only growls—opted for Roarbert. I’m a survivor of Leukemia, and I wanted to give back to the organization that helped my family and me get through the hard times during my treatments. I decided to hold a fundraiser—my goal was to donate 50 Scentsy Buddies to children fighting cancer. I was given a stuffed bunny rabbit when I was three years old. Every time I got a shot or spinal tap, I got to put a band-aid on my rabbit and it would make me feel better. I want to pass that on to them. I’m happy to announce I will be delivering 52 donated Scentsy Buddies to two different treatment centers in Las Vegas on November 22. I can’t wait! —Roxanne W.

Nicole Ferland Achieves the Scentsy Circle of Excellence At Convention 2010, Scentsy introduced a brand new award called the “Circle of Excellence.” Earning a place in the Circle of Excellence is no easy feat. Not only do you have to achieve the rank of SuperStar Director, you must also have six first- generation SuperStar Directors on your team. At the time Orville and Heidi introduced this new distinction last July, no Scentsy leader had yet qualified. But it didn’t take long for one of our SuperStars to reach for—and achieve—the newest, highest Scentsy honor. In November 2010, Nicole Ferland became the first inductee into the Circle of Excellence. After Orville and Heidi called her personally with the news, Nicole joined the regular Thursday SuperStar Director conference call on November 4, where Chuck Thompson made the announcement to Scentsy executives and SuperStar Directors. Nicole’s response was characteristically gracious—she gave all the credit to her team. “Thank you all so much, but I don’t really feel I’m the one who made this happen. It’s because I have these amazing people on my team, who know what they want and aren’t afraid to work hard for it!” Nicole joined Scentsy on March 14, 2005, becoming one of the first hundred Scentsy Consultants. She was awarded the Scentsy Shining Star award at Convention 2007, thanks to enthusiastic nominations by her team and fellow Consultants. Now, just five years after launching her Scentsy business, Nicole has achieved Scentsy’s top award by helping others in her downline reach Scentsy’s highest rank! Cristy Pacheco—Outstanding Sales Cristy Pacheco knows how important family is—in fact, family is what led her to Scentsy. While in Utah for her youngest brother’s wedding, she and her mother attended a Scentsy party hosted by her aunt. Cristy was intrigued by the idea of a product that offered the benefits of a scented candle without the flame, soot, or wick—she and her husband loved candles, but were looking for an alternative that didn’t involve a flame—so she placed an order. “Once we purchased our first warmer and tested it in our home, we knew we had found the perfect scented product,” she said. The aunt who hosted the party soon became her Sponsor, and Cristy was on her way to creating a family business. “Scentsy sells itself, and we knew this was a product we could stand behind,” she said. Cristy’s practical approach—understanding good times will balance the bad, and that tough times require tougher work—has allowed her to grow as a businesswoman. But no matter what, she sticks with her belief that “life is always joyful.” “Scentsy has magnified that experience,” she said. “Every day, I get to talk to great people and work with some great minds. I could not ask for a better life.”

Chilly Zoretic—Outstanding Sponsor After a failed attempt with another direct selling company, Chilly Zoretic had given up the idea of running her own business. Even after becoming a Scentsy Consultant, she didn’t anticipate success—but that’s exactly what she found. “Once a friend—and now Consultant—had a very successful basket party for me, I realized I really could do this,” she said. “It’s been so easy to grow my team. I love to share the products and help others.” Her faith in Scentsy grew further when she attended Convention 2010 in Denver. She began hearing stories of how the Scentsy business changed peoples’ lives, and was surprised to receive help from so many other Consultants. “It starts out small, earning a few extra dollars, but can turn into the kind of support system you didn’t know you needed,” she said. “I love the people I’ve met through my Scentsy business. I’m energized each time I talk to my team and inspired by their ideas. They help me more than I could ever help them!” Now she wishes someone had shared Scentsy with her much sooner. “You never know who might need Scentsy in their life,” she said. “God works in mysterious ways, and for me, He’s using Scentsy to help others.”

Chris Perry—Outstanding Start Chris Perry started her Scentsy business to help supplement her household income. She wanted to bring in more money, but didn’t want to sacrifice time with her family. With a full-time job and a busy schedule, Scentsy allowed her to accomplish just that. “I already spend way too much time away from my family,” she said. “I learned that I can sell Scentsy while at church functions and sports games, and don’t have to give up additional time with my family—and I get to have fun!” Success in her Scentsy business has also spilled into other areas of her life. She’s able to manage her time more wisely—she’s even found time to lose weight! But she said she’s most thankful for new, rewarding relationships. “Scentsy has brought me closer to my family and cultivated friendships I’d never have made,” she said. “It definitely pays to give more of yourself. Open your heart and your business will grow.” Chris loves the Scentsy products, but hates tricky sales tactics and stretched truths. In growing her Scentsy business, she simply keeps it real and honest. “I love the fact that I can be myself with everyone and that I don’t have to force Scentsy on anyone,” she said. “I think it’s great that there’s something for everyone in Scentsy—it’s affordable, and I can look my customers in the eye knowing I’m not charging someone twice the price I pay.”

Senses Come Alive—with Scentsy There is a family here in town with four precious boys—I knew of them around our small town, but never knew them on a very personal level. A year ago, when Tiffany (their mother) gave birth to their fourth child, she had no idea her life would change forever. Kiptyn was born missing one of his chromosomes, which caused all kinds of health problems. This family went from being active and always on the go to having a home nurse 24 hours a day, every day. Kiptyn is on a vent, has very little hearing, a cleft palate, a cleft lip, and the list goes on... The doctors never thought he would live a week, but he just celebrated his first birthday! Tiffany sent me an invitation to his birthday party, but I wasn’t able to go. Instead, I took him Molly the Monkey the following week. I have never seen a kid light up as Kiptyn did with his new friend! The day nurse went on and on about how good it would be for him, how it would stimulate his senses. I signed Tiffany up last week to be a Consultant. When she got her kit, she went through each of the scents and put them up to Kiptyn’s nose. He shook his head up and down at some with a smile, and others he shook his head “no” with a not-so- smiley face. In other words, he liked some and he didn’t like others—he can smell! All of the doctors, nurses, and specialists worried he wouldn’t be able to smell because of his cleft palate. Scentsy proved them all wrong! Nothing Can Stop a Scentsy Fan! My first Scentsy party was scheduled for October 16. My friends and family were so excited, but no one was more excited than my mom, Marie. She couldn’t wait to start doing some Scentsy holiday shopping! The night before my party, we were at my sister’s house talking about the party and her new baby. I left before my mom to get my children home for bedtime. My mom was on her way home and was in a terrible, terrible car accident. The road was newly paved and it was raining. She felt her car skidding and tried to stop, but it didn’t work. She ended up flipping her car three times, landing back on the parkway. By a true miracle, she walked away with a scratch on her hand and some minor soreness. She was released from the hospital that same night, and what do you think was the first thing she said to me? “You’re still having the party, right?” I’m not kidding! I had, of course, cancelled it, but my mom was so insistent that I called everyone back and told them she wanted to continue with the party! Nothing was going to stop her from getting her Scentsy! So, with my dad driving her to my house, she came over and we had a great time. She shared her story with everyone—no one could believe what had happened.
