Quebec City Getaway August 23-26, 2021 Bank of New Hampshire presents Quebec City Getaway August 23-26, 2021 Join Bank of New Hampshire on a getaway to the beautiful City of Quebec, Canada and the Enchanting Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac Hotel. Join us as we visit the oldest city in Canada for a four day, three night stay! We’ll depart on the morning of Monday, August 23rd for Quebec City; a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival we’ll check-in for three nights at the famous Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac; the grand dame of Quebec City. There will be time to relax and freshen up before joining the group for a delicious welcome dinner at the hotel. On day two we will visit the beautiful Montmorency Falls. Measuring 27 stories tall, the falls are almost double the height of Niagara Falls. An aerial tram ride to the top will allow for spectacular views. Following, we’ll visit the Albert Gilles Copper Art Museum before seeing his magnificent work first hand at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre Basilica; the most important Roman Catholic shrine in Canada. Then we’ll drive out to the Ile d’Orleans; the “Gardens of Quebec” and enjoy an included lunch. The day continues with a stop at Tigidou Confitrie—a local jam maker and scone baker, tasting of local wines at Vignoble Isle de Bacchus, and finishing the day at Cassis Monna & Filles; specializing in Black Currant products. We’ll return to the hotel and enjoy the evening at our leisure. On day three we will enjoy a Quebec City tour with an expert local step-on guide. Highlights will include: the Plains of Abraham, Grande-Allee, Le Quartier Petit Champlain, Place d’Armes, Place Royal and more! We’ll end the morning with a visit to LeGrand Marche – Quebec City’s new Farmers Market. The afternoon is at leisure. In the evening we’ll gather for a fabulous farewell dinner in Vieux-Quebec. En octobre 2004, un petit éboulement a atteint la route dans une zone proche de l’éboulement de 1889 qui a tué 35 personnes et blessé 30 autres. Une image 3D a été créée par l’utilisation d’un scanner Lidar terrestre (SLT). Les sept familles de joints identifiées sont en accord avec les mesures effectuées dans de précédentes études. L’imagerie SLT a aussi permit d’estimer les volumes des instabilités passées et d’en analyser le mécanisme: un glissement rocheux qui affecte des blocs débités en parallélépipèdes par d’autres familles de joints. De plus la zone étudiée montre qu’elle est favorable aux chutes de blocs. ABSTRACT In nearly 240 years 53 landslides have occurred along the Quebec City Promontory, causing 88 fatalities mainly by rockfalls. In October 2004 a rockfall reached the road close to the 1889 rockfall event which killed 35 people and injured 30 others. Using a terrestrial Lidar scanner (TLS) a 3D image was created. Seven joint sets were accurately determined in agreement with previous research. The TLS imagery permit the estimation of the volumes involved in the past instabilities and analysis of the mechanisms: a rockslide with several joint sets cutting the rock mass into parallelepiped shaped blocks.

Face à cette problématique environnementale, des citoyens se sont mobilisés au sein de l’Initiative citoyenne de vigilance du Port de Québec, un regroupement qui s’est donné comme mission de colliger et de diffuser l’information sur les impacts environnementaux des activités industrielles au Port de Québec. En réponse à cette mobilisation citoyenne, les autorités se sont attardées à identifier la source des concentrations élevées de nickel dans l’air du quartier Limoilou et à documenter les risques théoriques pour la santé associés à ces fortes concentrations. En fait, les citoyens ont été tenus à l'écart des études menées par les autorités même si les autorités prétendent arrimer leurs démarches aux préoccupations citoyennes. Conséquemment, ces études sont, sans surprise, loin de répondre à leurs préoccupations. L'objectif du document est double. Premièrement, il est de diffuser des témoignages transmis à l’Initiative citoyenne. Deuxièmement, il est de mettre en lumière la situation telle qu'elle est vécue par les citoyens. Ces témoignages font état des nuisances qu’ils subissent et de leurs préoccupations face à cette situation. Ces témoignages démontrent notamment que les impacts liés à l’empoussièrement des quartiers centraux de Québec, par la poussière en provenance des installations portuaires, ne se limitent pas aux effets sur la santé, associés spécifiquement aux concentrations de nickel dans l’air.
