Plot of the best sense and mild-mannered milkman Burleigh Sullivan (Kay) meets Polly Pringle (Mayo), a handsome but out of work, singer, while on his rounds early in the morning. He tries to find her a job in a club where his sister Susie (Vera-Ellen) performs, but gets a sack for his troubles. During a meeting with Susie after the show, he sees her molested by drunken boxer Speed MacFarlane and his bodyguard Spider. In the fracas, Speed is knocked out and his manager, Gabby Sloan, is furious. Newspapers pick up the story and photographers catch Burley knocking out speed again. In fact, as before, the speed accidentally knocked out spider, as the [email protected]'s quick footwork and penchant for diving. Gabby decides to turn Burley into a fighter to turn advertising in his favor. Burleigh goes on tour, but does not realize that all his fights have been corrected, and his opponents asked to take a dive to create his image. He comes to believe that he is a really great fighter, and develops a swollen head. Polly and Susie are not happy with the turn of events. Meanwhile, Speed and Susie have become the item themselves. Burleigh's contract is bought by Mr Austin, his former boss at Sunflower Milk, for $50,000, and it is set up to fight speed for a charity fundraiser organised by socialite Ms Winthrop Lyemann. Speed accidentally got an overdose of sleeping pills and falls asleep during the fight, so Burleigh wins by default. Burleigh doesn't want to retire without being KO'd, but Mrs. LeMoyne accidentally does just that. Now Burley can retire with a clear conscience. As promised by Mr. Austin, he got a partnership in a dairy company, with his former competitor and new friend, Speed, as one of the district managers. But Gabby and Spider work as milkmen. The film stars Danny Kay, Vera-Ellen, Walter Abel, Virginia Mayo, Faye Beinter, Steve Cochran and Eva Arden. As in the original version, and in the remake, Lionel Sanders appears as Spider Schultz. The film tells the story of a milkman who rises to the top of the boxing world, becoming a world boxing champion. Plot Burley Sullivan (Kaye) is a mild-mannered and well-meaning milkman who, during an early morning round, meets an out-of-work, beautiful singer, Polly Pringle (Mayo) for the first time. True to his nature, he tries to get Polly a job at the club where Susie (Vera-Ellen), his sister, performs. Despite his good intentions, he loses his job. When meeting his sister after her performance, he notices a drunk boxer, Speed MacFarlane, and his bodyguard, Spider, molesting her. During the fight, Burleigh knocks out speed, and this infuriates his manager Gabby Sloan. In another argument, Burleigh knocks out the speed again, but this time, the photographers get a snapshot of this happening. In truth, Spider is responsible for knocking out speed accidentally because of Burleigh's tendency to block, and his quick footwork. As local newspapers pick up the story, Gabby decides to make money by making Burleigh a fighter. As Gabby takes Burley on tour, he faces opponents who have been paid to take a dive and lose the match. Not realizing what's going on, Burleigh begins to think he's a great fighter. These victories begin to come into his head, and Susie and Polly are not happy with the events as they unfold. With its growing popularity, Burleigh has attracted the attention of his former boss, Mr. Austin, when he worked at Sunflower Milk. Mr Austin pays $50,000 for his contract and creates a charity fight between Burleigh and Speed. The fight is a fundraiser put together by Ms. E. Winthrop LeMoyne. During the fight, Speed falls asleep after an overdose on sleeping pills by accident. This leads to Burleigh winning by default. The possibility of retirement without getting knocked out, however, does not sit With Burley. Needing this to get a clear clear he accidentally KO'd Ms. LeMoyne.
