Civic Square shares their lights in 2017 Share Your Light This December Contributed by the Verona Woman’s Club

ach year, as the weather grows colder and colder, residents see a sight of warmth on the streets of Verona. Glowing luminaries line the Esidewalks of many houses throughout our small town, in a show of holiday spirit and togetherness. Since 2009, the Woman’s Club of Verona has run the “Share Your Light” luminary sale, both as a fund- raiser for the club and as a way to bolster community spirit through a town-wide display of lights. Held each year on the second Saturday in December (This year’s event will be held December 8), the tradition has continued to grow. Last year the sponsorship was expanded to include the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona and the Verona-West Essex Juniorettes. All three clubs are members of the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs. Last year also included the first display in the Verona Civic Center, with over 600 luminaries sponsored by Verona businesses!

The Gould Mansion By Robert L. Williams, historian

ocated at 22 Rockland Terrace, off of Bloomfield Avenue, is a large home set back from theL road. Years ago, this was known as the Gould Mansion and was one of the largest and finest homes in the community. In its heyday, a long drive led in from Bloomfield Avenue and was lined with stately trees. The house contained a wrap- around porch which has since been enclosed and the main entry led into a spacious hallway that ran all the way to the back of the house. The hall was divided by a key- a painted portrait of Stephen and one of his daughter, Caroline. stone arch supported by two columns which still survive and the Upstairs was a secretary and old sofa. here are nearly 16 million caregivers in the United States. The majority are Tunpaid family members for whom the care of the infirmed or elderly is the central point of their lives. Studies show that nearly 70% of these caregivers lack the appropri- ate amount of sleep. The average sleep period reported by caregivers is 6 hours per night. Of those hours, caregivers of persons with dementia and memory loss are subject to fre- quent waking.
