Call for applications

Wikipedian in Residence for WikiAfrica Cameroon doual’art (www.doualart.org) is a contemporary art center based in Douala, Cameroon. One of its projects, called WikiAfrica Cameroon, is being run in collaboration with the lettera27 Foundation (www.lettera27.org), the Africa Centre (www.africacentre.net) and the Orange Foundation. This project will start in November 2012.

The aim of WikiAfrica is to redress the critical imbalance of factual information about historic and contemporary Africa on the Internet’s most utilised information resource, . For more information on the project, please visit: www.wikiafrica.org

To achieve its aims, the project values, and seeks to encourage, the contribution of citizen archivists, historians, journalists, artists and photographers across Africa.

WikiAfrica Cameroon is a pilot project whose goal is to generate 1000 contributions (in the form of images, texts and other media). It is also expected that by mid-2013, articles will be written in both French and English (fifty in each language) for primary school pupils to support their preparation for the CEP diploma. This project is intended to be scalable and aims at being replicated in other African countries.

With these goals in mind, doual’art seeks applicants for a for a two- portion residency in Cameroon. The Wikipedian-in-Residence will have to:

1. During his/her first stay: a. Organise, prepare and activate training for 5 Cameroonian Wikipedians on Wikipedia, , , and Wikimedia projects. b. Develop a pedagogical program to train the 5 Cameroonians to become trainers and be able to coach other potential wikipedian users and give assistance to cultural (or GLAM) institutions using Wikipedia. c. Facilitate production of content from 5 Cameroonian cultural institutions (including the Orange Foundation) on Wikipedia and Wikimedia. d. Produce images and documentation for Wikipedia and Wikipedia Commons. e. Produce and upload content that supports children and adults wishing to prepare for CEP f. Update the WikiAfrica project web sites in both French and English (www.wikiafrica.org)

2. During the second residence, he/she will: a. Follow up on all training, and activated projects b. Facilitate the creation of a local chapter for Cameroon as Wikimedia Cameroon c. Develop communication around the project (and each individual aspect) on Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects d. Draft 2 reports on the project e. Upload training documentation, create case studies and produce the guidelines of the project for replication within Cameroon and in other African countries

Within the framework of Wiki Loves Monuments, he/she will help to design and place tags of optical character reading (QRcodes for QRpedia) for relevant urban sites and the main monuments of cities in Cameroon.

Eligibility: - French speaker with good written and spoken English - Specific skills and experiences on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wiki Loves Monuments, WikiGLAM - Educational and relational skills - Excels at working in a group - Experience of living or working in Africa would be an advantage, but is not essential.
