- 14 - Dear Friends, - 3 -- 3 - It’s June and summer is here! The weather fluctuated between LOCAL COUNCILS, SOCIETIES, GROUPS etc. warm and cold when we enjoyed an amazing Rogation Sunday, at last Longbridge Deverill Parish Council www.crockertonlongbridgeandhilldeverill.co.uk it had become more predictable and our farmers can catch up after Caroline Sawyer 840585 (Chair) Martin McDermott 216939 one of the latest springs in memory. Nature has a great capacity to recover so we hope this summer is no exception. Kate Plastow 840975 (Vice Chair) Bob Pitman 212953 Richard Baxter 212918 David Searle 213767 When I looked for a theme early in May, the news was full of the consequences of Juliet Brathwaite MBE 841338 Nigel Spreadbury-Clews 216660 the misuse of Facebook personal data. Those of you not interested in social media Nikki Spreadbury-Clews (Clerk) 216660 or [email protected] may now be heading to the waste bin with this page! Until recently, I was firmly of the same view, but reluctantly became a user of Facebook, in order to be able to Upper Deverills Parish Council share Church information with those who don’t perhaps read local magazines. What possible relevance can this have to us as Christians and the life of our 0300 456 0100 churches? Given our recent discussions across the Benefice, looking at what the Sir James Thynne Almshouse Karen Seymour 840196 (Steward) future holds for us, many of the conclusions confirm what Pauline has long been urging us to do. We have no future unless we connect with the whole community, Longbridge Deverill Parish Hall Committee particularly our newer generations. The recent Good Friday Messy Church in St Philip Julie Read 840655 (Chair) Anna Mead 212759 (Secretary) Sylvia Titt 214825 (Bookings) and St James’ Church was a perfect example of this. Their way of life is ordered by the seasons and has been for hundreds of years. A Viking would understand the work they do: sending sheep to the fells in the summer and making hay; autumn fairs where the flocks are replenished; gruelling toil of winter to keep the sheep alive and light-headedness of spring as the lambs are born and the sheep get ready to return to the fells.
