International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network THIS DIRECTORY IS SPONSORED BY The International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network is a unique organisation which promotes seafarers’ welfare worldwide. ISWAN is the result of a merger between the International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare (ICSW) and the International Seafarers Assistance Network (ISAN). ISWAN is a membership organisation with the International Chamber of Shipping, The International Transport Workers Federation and the International Christian Maritime Association as key members. ISWAN provides direct welfare services to seafarers including the 24 hour multilingual helpline, SeafarerHelp, that operates every day of the year and is free for seafarers to call from anywhere in the world. Each year SeafarerHelp is contacted by thousands of seafarers asking for help to resolve issues and problems that they and their families are facing. ISWAN supports the welfare of seafarers, with a wide range of partners, all over the world. We work to enable the establishment of welfare facilities and services in port and aboard ships. We also work in support of organisations and bodies that provide direct welfare services to seafarers. ISWAN brings together and supports our members to share learning and experiences to improve seafarers’ welfare. In particular, ISWAN promotes the implementation of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006. We work with companies, unions, governments, welfare organisations (secular and faith based), and ports for the benefit of seafarers’ welfare.

Time ashore is precious for seafarers so we have produced this guide to give you the basic information about where you can find facilities and assistance that are available to you as a seafarer. Please find information about where you can contact the seafarer centre or welfare worker in each port. We include the contact details, opening times and facilities available. Telephone numbers are printed with the country code included. Only centres that are members of ISWAN, the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) or bona-fide centres operating for the welfare of seafarers are included in this directory. We have included as many centres as possible. The details were checked during the Summer of 2014. We may have missed some ports and centres that seafarers know about and apologise for any omissions.
