The way Cornell tied the end of The Black Ring to the beginning of Reign of Doomsday was very problematic for the collected editions. Assuming the oversized main story from Action Comics will also be Superman: The Black Ring Vol. 2 in its Superman: The Black Ring Vol. 2 in the Reign of Doomsday HC, readers who didn't follow The Black Ring will be lost if they pick up that collection, while readers who already bought the two previous HC's will get over 50 redundant pages. I overlooked that Action Comics is also collected in the Reign of Doomsday hardcover. Only way I see that it works is that if Reign readers are coming over from Return of Doomsday collecting Steel, Superboy, etc. Then that gives Return readers the relevant Action issue without subjecting them to Lex's whole journey -- put another way, Return readers follow Superman while Black Ring readers follow Lex. But yes, for an issue as large as Actionis it troublesome. I guess I was hoping DC would be brave enough to reprint the controversial David Goyer story from Action in Reign of Doomsday, given that's the "last" Superman collection pre-Flashpoint. But you're probably right, it's probably the lead story. Goyer is listed as one of the writers along with Cornell, Johns and many others who worked on that issue.
