MAI CIUDAT DECÂT NE PUTEM IMAGINA. O ISTORIE ALTERNATIVĂ A UNUI DESTIN MONUMENTAL – AVOCATUL PETRE PANDREA Valentin-Stelian BĂDESCU1
(Petre Pandrea) ABSTRACT: Throughout an individual’s troubled history, one may happen to be conservative, then radically dangerous, eventually becoming an uncomfortable reactionary, yet without even changing one’s ideas – this is what happened to Petre Pandrea, a Romanian pas‑ sionate about his country, in the first decades of the 20th century. The time has come, therefore, for a new perspective on our recent history and the personalities that have marked it, by putting it on a certain course, through their destiny. With Petre Pandrea as a guide, we leave the trodden path and we visit some ill‑lighted cottages at the begin‑ ning of the 20th century, uncovering completely new approaches on our way to the present. We travel in the company of one of the greatest Romanian lawyers, scientists, genii and eccentric personalities of the time. We learn that big problems, such as capitalism, communism, justice and the holocaust of the Romanian culture are not abstract horrors, impossible to understand, as we all believe, but important terminals that lead us to the world we live in. Petre Pandrea presents us with an alternative history of the most dramatic period of the twen‑ tieth century.
