NYIT Graduating Student Survey Report Highlights

¾ New in this year’s report are students’ self assessments of learning skills (pp 2‐6).

¾ New also are items specifically asked just of the overseas graduates (pp 12‐13).

• Most overseas NYIT students self rate their English skills as good or better (except Canada which did not answer). rated theirs the lowest in comparison to the campuses • Many overseas graduates would have liked more collaboration with the US NYIT students (ranging from 62.5% for to 87.0% for ).

¾ Campus differences in reasons for choosing NYIT:

• “Academic reputation” was more important in choosing NYIT for Amman, Bahrain, and Canada, in comparison to other campuses. • “Develop a new career or get a better job” was very important to Canada and China relative to other campuses (caution: low sample sizes for both campuses). • “NYIT had the specific major I wanted” was a more important reason to US campuses than for the overseas campuses.

¾ Higher percentages of students in the Middle East campuses report post graduation plans of enrolling in more classes (Table: Subsequent Plans, p. 16).

¾ The majority of NYIT graduating students are full‐time employed, ranging from 72.1% of Bahrain graduates to 84.2% of Canada graduates.

Procedure

¾ This was the second time the Graduating Student Survey (GSS) was administered entirely online and to all locations (excluding Ellis). Beginning in Spring 2008 all graduates for the academic year 2006‐2007 (August 2006 until July 2007) were contacted by email and invited to participate in the online survey. The email included a greeting from the Institutional Research and Assessment department as well as the link to the online survey. The initial email list consisted of 2,915 undergraduate and graduate students and of that number 2,595 were successfully delivered. Four follow‐up emails were sent at approximately one to 1.5 week intervals. This effort yielded a total of 628 responses for a 24% response rate on the successful deliveries. Responses were entered into SPSS for summary and analysis. How much did your education at NYIT prepare you to do the following: (Rated on a scale from 1=Not at all to 4=To a great extent)

Campus Reason Abu Dhabi ‐ Experinace of NYIT. ‐ Good care of the students in tearm of knowledge develop. ‐ BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM " NOT YET CREDITED IN UAE " Good and healthy environment to study in ‐ quality of instructors ‐ NYIT is now more than 50 years of education services in different part of the world ‐ I have gained alot in terms of knowledge ‐ I'm proud to have a master's Actually no reason except the cost is reasonable and affordable american university At the time of my enrollment, NYIT was the only University that offered MBA‐HR program in Abu Dhabi. Now there are other MBA programs. I need to praise the university and the program, MBA‐HR, to add value to my qualification. education system, variety of majors, and quality of programmes Good enviornment great Professors Rich material i want to get american education so this is only american university that open in Abu Dhabi I would recommend NYIT for those who need to enhance their career but not those who want switch disciplines instruction standard It is a nice place to be It provides good education Meet and interact with new cultures Working as a team member It is a nice University with a very high potential to grow. make the accreditation first then start business Only institution available in UAE offering North American Masters degree in computer security Quality of Courses. High reputation. subjects quality, location and quarter system. The easy way to enrolle in the acadimic system, and less effort required to gain a degree the first university in abuhabi give MPA the reason will be the quality of education. they became now more professional, organized and they have a good academic reputation Amman * Some of the tutors were excellent * Course timing 1)attention to a student as an individual 2) importance of team work and organisation 3)flexibility and ability to graduate faster than other univertsities 4)diverse student cultures. 5)Strong and useful topics coverever 1.great academic atmosphere 2.esteemed reputation academic reputation plus good staff indeed both instructors & NYIT personnel American Certificate As it is the only university in that teaches the latest academic requirements for MBA in the states besides the fact that it teaches in English which is the most recognized language globally. because i had a good experience there Because it is the only American university in Jordan. The American degree is very recommended to our employers Because it's internationally accredited but I really wish that NYIT here in Jordan would more focus in following up the relationship between academic doctors and their students to ensure that doctors are implementing to principles of equality among all students without looking to their races. because of its academic system and new techniques they use 19 Please let us know the most important reason or reasons you would recommend NYIT

Campus Reason Amman Being highly reputed Unv. Best education in Amman cause of the quality of education and tutors there Certificate of graduation is obtained from the United States NYIT has some really talented instructors with great experience who give their best in some interesting fields that are really important to our career path

Diversity of majors avalibilty, having evening and weedend classes. highly educated instructors. Educational reputation standard, Strong relationships/agreements with other universities first of all to get a higer education from a USA university . finally , I hope that the MANAGER OF NYIT university will help me and every student who got a high grade to get the PHD degree ( THIS IS MY GREAT DREAM ). Flixability of cources timings & exposure to different methods of learning ( specially teachers from outside the country ) For the Master degree: i would recommend NYiT for two main reason: 1‐NYIT's education System divide the Academic Year into Five Quarters. 2‐NYIT have a good reputation in comparison with other universities For the reason that you can earn your degree even if you are a worker, by accomodating your studies during the evening classes. Good courses and reputation Highy reputation with added benefits to excell in your current situation and for future professional developement I recommend mostly NYIT‐NY more than NYIT‐JO i recommend NYIT because of the healthy educational environment that they have plus they Do appreciate the students and teach them very well i would recommend it when i take other factors about Jordan. a graduate would have a better chance for NYITs reputation as an american university. I would recommend NYIT in Jordan to freinds looking to get an American degree without leaving the country , however I would not recommend NYIT to some ne looking to enhance his knowledge and to gain more skills. in my opinion it would be so easy to attain a degree !! It is an American instution It is providing a new chance for a new specialized field alongwith an American trusted certificate. It was a good experience over all It was a pleasure for me to study at NYIT and would be for everyone else since they have a strong academic culture Its improved our skills ,specialy iraqi's students because of the variety of its courses ,That we hadn't this variety in our Institutes in its reputation helps you to get good job its the lonely american university in jordan , 2‐ the instructors very flexible and kindly with student ,

My educational experience at NYiT, can't in anyway be compared to any local unversity, and this is clear over all our country (JORDAN), American system is much convenient than any other systems in Jordan

20 Please let us know the most important reason or reasons you would recommend NYIT

Campus Reason Amman NYIT offers a good program and highly qualified teachers which help the students in gaining knowledge and master new techniques. In addition, consider English language the main used language helps the students in enriching and improving their English, communication and negotiation skills. One of the best universities in the world Same reasons I chose NYIT for (listed three earlier). Some of the Lecturer abilities to extend the added value for student such as Dr Ghassan Salameh

Students are treated with dignity and equality to the greatest extent. Opinions are never turned down. Campus Reason Bahrain excellent instructors and the techniques of teaching was helpful five courses yearly intersation timing Good reputation and rank NYIT has and the good benefits I got from attending NYIT classes. Good Reputation. Very Good Academic Programme Good Instracturs has a goog reputation and good proffessors. helpfull instructors. I think NYiT Bahrain has to be developed in many areas in order for a graduate to recommend it to his or her friend. I think they have to look into the issue of changing their faculty seriously as currently they are very poor in term of their level (academic, overall knowledge and approaches) as well as in term of their approaches in teaching their students. This point is very critical as the reputation in the market about its graduates is really down which was the result of the graduate’s poor academic level and their accumulated knowledge. The management if it wants to maintain its high reputation has to take very strong decisions in many areas to change the current situation. I think the most important reason that I would recommend NYiT is because of it's Academic Reputation. In addition to this, I feel that NYiT has a fantastic faculty of individuals that make the degree programs exciting and highly beneficial. I would recommend NYIT's Bachelors program because it is a good starting platform for Bahrain, however I would not recommend their MBA program. international recognization Is the best available selection in Bahrain to complete the NBA. it gives a US degree. you can graduate faster It is a well known and an execellent universty that has it's reputation. It provided a variety of great courses. The MBA program was great, and I was able to make friends with people from around the world. its an internationl institution Make a lot advertising and promotioning in everywere in Bahrain Most majors are available, timing of classes felexible and a good reputed university nice relaxing invironment NYIT changed my life, the way i talk or think, it made me think more about any subject or out of the box as they say .. one of the best colleges in academics and socail work one of the best university avilable at my country . Professional majors The campus Activities reconseder canceling the intersition course, pay some attention to the servises they are preforming in regestraition and advising Relatively speaking, I think the study materials provided by the university are the best on the island. Although, there is obviously a vast difference in the quality of delivering this material (due to professors' abilities, commitments, and skills), the university is still able to retain some wonderful professors that provided me with a great academic experience in this particular institute. Reputation That you can attain a degree in less than four years the atmospher, variety of majors available, some instructors are just perfect and the quality of the material selecteed The place was not crowded and i felt the way of lecturing made my life easier. 22 Please let us know the most important reason or reasons you would recommend NYIT

Throughout the time I spent at NYiT, every aspect was significantly improved; better instructors, more improved services, the library was expanded etc. Well the most important reason is that NYIT Bahrain where i graduated from is a small campus but u earn a very high degree from the main campus in the states. Well, NYIT certification comes from the States, that's the reason I chose NYIT unlike all foreign universities in Bahrain. you can do your course in your pace Canada all dean DEVELOP A NEW CAREER and get a better job. Flexibility of your choices Flexibility, freedom, good professor I will recommend NYIT but not the campus in Canada It's fit for International students. Availibility of various major B.S degree offered in Managment Networking and Telecomunication B/C I went to the Manhattan campus, the location (especially for architecture) was incredible. But the variety of people you meet in the time you are there is just as important as the professors that teach you. Beautiful Old Westbury Campus, Very nice professors who are helpful and knowledgeable and finally the architecture program. Because I went there myself and have had a good personal experiance. Because of the avability Becuase oft he instructors in the Fine Arts Department cause this is a good university Certain Comm Arts professors have experience which is excellent to share. Campus Reason Manhattan I think that NYIT has a great array of programs and the connections that the school has is an added bonus. The professors are more than likely from the real world and can give you hands on training and advice for a successful career. I was a transfer student who had been to many different Universities. Even though I had a 3 hour commute every day I had classes, sometimes 4 days a week, I found it so beneficial to me over any other school thanks to the teachers they have! Teachers that have been where you want to be, and know everything about their field! That was preparation you cannot get at any other University! I would not recommend if my friend is looking for a college which has research facilities I would recommend NYIT because of my great experience there the friendships I created there with fellow students and faculty members, who were always available when I need help.

I would recommend Nyit because of the programs offered relevant to 21st century education. I would recommend NYIT because: 1. NYIT accepts a large portion of credits from junior college, 2. NYIT provides a wide array of evening classes, 3. NYIT had provided me with means to obtain a high paying job in a career that I love. I would recommend NYIT for a future hospitality student only. The hospitality program is very well rounded and provides a broad education, which allows students the opportunity to dip their toes in a variety of fields. Also, I would recommend NYIT for hospitality students becasue of one important person‐ Dr. Koenig. Dr. Koenig made my time at NYIT unforgettable and his support and encouragement allowed me to grow tremendously during my four years at NYIT. I would recommend NYiT for the opportunities that are available for extracurricular activities and there are some very good professors there. I would recommend NYIT only to a friend pursuing an undergraduate degree due to the labs offered along with classroom work. This instills a sense of practicality while learning theory and helps to change the stereotypes of an engineer. I would recommend NYIT to a prospective student for the undergraduate program, not the graduate program. It prepares you for grad school. I would recommend the architecture program solely for the quality of the faculty. If Mr.Alexander Shundi and Prof.Jody Saslow is still teaching at the C.A. Department, I would definitely recommend NYIT to my friends. They're the greatest teachers I've ever had. If the person's interests in continuing education sounds similar to what NYIT can provide. If there is no other choice I would recommend NYIT it has three campus's which make it easy to get needed classes It is a Greate Place where you can have flexible Program It is a school in smaller size and where teacher can help. It is closer to public transportation, and it is a very safe . It is easy to enter and flexible in schedule. The Prof. are great but I like to have more choices in Master and Doctoral Degree. It it an excellent and highly recommended Institution for higher learning It was economical and it went fast It's a partnership with my french school EFAP so I would recommend NYIT to the EFAP french student, it's a good experience to live in NYC, and to go to NYIT

Campus Reason Old Westbury constant drive to improve, no one is happy with the way things are. Progressive changes cost COST EFFECTIVE Courses & Environment cURRICULUM AND QUALITY OF TEACHING Decent preparation for the osteopathic medical boards (COMLEX) Diversity of course offerings Due to the fewer number of students, most students in the same major will be taking their classes together from enrollment to graduation. This helps to develop long lasting friends and contacts.

During my many years at NYIT, I learn many things from most of my teachers, but some teacher that NYIT hire were not to what we needed in a teacher, It's important that we have the right person to teach us and help us understand. If I have to name which teacher need to be review I would if it would help others. But NYIT will not do anything to chance that since most of them have 10 year... We that I would have to think very hard if I would recommend anyone.

During my studies at NYIT (nursing program), there were alot of changes and ever changing rules. They were for the better, because I've graduated with the skills I needed to work on my profession. But, I would only recommend another student to NYIT after the rules and regulation to the Nursing program are final and consistent. There needs to be nursing classes available during the summer session. Also, the school lacked tutors for nursing subjects. Overall, the school is a great school that offers many programs. Easy course of study Educational purposes. Enviroment Everyone was warm and welcoming. It was a wonderful environment to learn in. Excellent academic preparation Excellent Fine Arts department with great facilities, respected professors and diverse courses Excellent instructors, Great Library Services and Reputation of the College. Excellent professors , attention paid to every student, small class size , choice of classes day and evening . Extensive availability of majors faculty support Faculty was experienced and supportive. Campus Reason Old Westbury friendly staff good engineering program in ny Good PA Program. Good Professors. good school, great professors, Good variety of majors, good classes available at different times. good, calm, exciting place to learn and creating brilliant ideas. the atmosphere over there is cordialy warm and people are generally loving and caring. Great professors, quality education, personable faculty. Great teachers, and courses. Had needed program of study Good Professors Close Nice campus has good careers Highly engaged Hands on learning experience. I am not sure I would. I answered "Neutral" as to wether or not I would recommend NYIT...it would depend on the major they were seeking. I attendeded NYIT for its graduate program in Physical Therapy. I would recommend it for its staff. They are highly knowledgeable. I can only comment on th DPT program. Having gone through it, the faculty, and facilities always demonstrate there commitment to each and every student. I feel that the NYIT faculty are keenly aware that the primary reason for college is to develop skills that will enable a student to continue to learn even after they have finished their main course of schooling ‐ this is more important than anything one could actually learn in school. I found that the faculty was composed of a very skilled and knowledgeable group of professors who were all very involved with their students. i graduated from the PA program, I would reccomend the program to my friends because of the quality of the program, small class size, and the way in which we were prepared for work after graduation and job placement I had a wonderful experience and I received an excellent education I have got the best attention and knowlege in this school by best teacher I knew almost every profesor that I had to the point that if I went back to visit I would receive aa warm welcome. It was an atmosphere that I was comfortable in and have very fond memories of. I felt comfortable to talk to faculty with any concerns. I thought overall it was a great school the only probably i had was the lack of help that the school did in helping me or talking with me in trying to get a job in the field. They did not do anything for me at all 0% of effort was made in even reaching out to help students or maybe just me in trying to get out there in the job market. That was the only downfall i had with the school. I thought the teachings were practically based, as opposed to academically based at my undergraduate institution. I want NYIT to grow and become a power house. NYIT should be a name that everyone knows. When companies look at NYIT in a resume they now that there are getting a great candidate for employment. I was a student‐athlete at NYIT and it was the best experience i had in my life...

If you are a student athlete, NYIT professors were understanding to my needs and my teams needs. I'm not sure the program I was in was the striongest, but I would say the professors I had were very helpful. I'm where I'd like to be now in life. In almost all of my clases, the Professors were geared toward acknowledging the levels in which the students were actually hearing and learning what was being taught. This made for a most interesting lecture with classroom participation. Interaction with professors and educational opportunities beyond the classroom. It broadens one's horizons and career prospects especially. You will also be introduced to a very multicultural environment if you haven't been already. It is a mind‐opening experience. It has a good cultural environment. It is good for building great relationships with people all over the world. Campus Reason Old Westbury Small classes and great professors small classes. Staff Location Teacher interactions/personalities. I liked the annonymity. The teachers intervened at spceific at the right only when needed cases. You have to let people work out their own problems. I liked that this school and overal growth during this time taught me to be self reliant. The caring professors. The college is very small and it is a very friendly atmosphere. I had some of the best times at NYIT just being at the school. The classes were very informative although I wouldve liked to not have paid as much as I did even after tuition was taken care of. The concentration of Graduate degree in HR/LR. Dr. Dibble does a great job The emphasis on hands‐on learning rather than just classroom learning the environment in NYIT like a family The guidance of Dr. Dibble in the Human Resources program THE LOCATION AND NIGHT COURSES OFFERED The main reason why I attended NYIT was due to Baseball. However, I would recommend NYiT as having a good academic program as well. The overall benefits of the education it offers. the people staff faculty like family The profs were great The relationship with your professor. They not only teach you academically but also shape you into professionals. The size of the classes were important. There are a wide variety of majors offered for many different individuals.
