Re-elect Health Board Election 2016 Andrew Buckley 1

Asking the hard questions As a Board member for the past six years I have been advocating for the needs of our community, not the bureaucracy that runs our health system. I believe that we need great facilities and a valued workforce. Working with the community I believe that local communities know how to best look after themselves. Not only do they know how to help people in need,

they also know how to prevent people from becoming sick in AU-7411712AA the first place. Our Health Board needs to support these great community organisations. Improving health, not managing sickness Our present system is measured by how many sick people it treats and is gearing up to treat even more people in the future. I believe that our health system has a role to play in keeping our people healthy so they don’t need the expensive and difficult health care that arises when . people become really sick.

AARON GOILE

Waikato was dealt a heavy blow ahead of its Ranfurly Shield defence against Taranaki, with news prop Loni Uhila would miss the rest of the 2016 season due to a broken right arm. Uhila revealed in a social media post that his Mitre 10 Cup season had been cut short, after undergoing surgery for the injury he sustained in the 35-32 win over Auckland at Eden Park. The 1.80m, 125kg loosehead, known as the ‘Tongan Bear’, was replaced around quarter of an hour from fulltime in that fixture, and at the end of the game was seen nursing his arm, using his jersey as an improvised sling. The 27-year-old then sent a message to his Instagram followers, revealing the extent of his ailment, and sharing his x-ray Waikato prop which illustrated the nasty break: Loni Uhila will ‘‘Hi Team! KELLEY TANTAU

For five months Vincent Harris will be in Denmark, playing badminton against some of the best. People tend to ask him if the racquet sport, where players hit a shuttlecock across a net, is like tennis, but Harris said it was so much more. ‘‘It’s the fastest racquet sport in the world,’’ he said. ‘‘There are crazy statistics coming out of bad- minton.’’ On Monday he was on the plane heading to Holbaek, Denmark, where he will take part in full-time training and tournaments every weekend. He will be under the wing of top coaches, and playing against international players. ‘‘I’ve been training twice a day to prepare,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m very excited and nervous. The quality of badminton there is so high. ‘‘I think I’m in reasonably good shape.’’ Harris has been playing bad- minton for ten years and started after going to Eastlink Badminton Stadium with friends. Shortly after, he joined the development squad and continued with his passion.
