Knight was standing on the other side of the vehicle holding an object in his hand. The victim’s son stated that the object looked dark and metal possibly being a crow bar. Knight asked him, “What do you want?” He was scared and ran into the home, locked the door, and woke his sister up. He then called 911. The son and daughter of the victim said that their mother and Knight had been in a relationship since June or July of this year. Knight moved in shortly after and has been living with them for the past several months. They also told police Knight was currently on probation in Alabama for possession of mari- juana and attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend’s child, who he shot with a gun. Police contacted the victim at the hospital. She said that she went to her vehicle as she normally does in the morning to get ready to take her son to school. As she walked towards her vehicle, she heard the trash can move behind her. When she turned around and saw Knight, she ran around the vehicle and Knight went after her to strick her in the head with an unknown object. She lost consciousness during the attack and later woke up after it was done. A week before the incident, a judge signed a temporary injunction for protection against domestic violence so that there would be no contact between Knight and the victim, according to reports. Police searched the area near the crime scene and a steel pipe, approxi- mately 12 to 16 inches, was found in a drainage ditch. The pipe was tested and showed a positive presumptive test for the presence of blood. When Knight was arrested and questioned, he said he did not use a crow bar. Knight was charged with felony attempted murder. C&J 2 THE STAR OCTOBER 06, 2012
