1 CELEBRATING 63 YEARS AND COUNTING! Thank you for joining us at the 49th annual benefit auction. Since 1952, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue have been here for the young people in our community. For 63 years, the Club has been providing what they need and want most....adults who respect and listen to Kathy Haggart Rich Bray them in a safe environment where they can President/CEO Board Chairman have fun! Bellevue is much different today than it was sixty-three years ago. In fact, it has changed a lot in just a few years! We have a much larger and more diverse population, which enhances and strengthens the community, but also adds challenges. We are meeting those challenges by striving to be there for every child in our community who needs us, now more than ever! As a result, we currently provide services to over 11,000 members! Twenty one years ago, we just had the downtown Club you see on the map at the left and we now have 12 Clubhouses throughout Bellevue! Most of the expansion since then has been into East Bellevue where we saw the greatest need for affordable, after school and out-of-school care. We now have three brand new Clubhouses in public housing complexes that were built for us by King County Housing Authority; Eastside Terrace, Spiritwood Manor and Hidden Village. We also have three Clubhouses in schools; Cherry Crest, Bennett and Phantom Lake. We operate Clubs in the City-owned community centers; South Bellevue and Crossroads. In 2010, we opened a “Teen Tech Cen- ter for Excellence” on Lake Hills Blvd. and in 2012, we purchased and opened a 10,000 square foot Teen Center next door. We just opened our new “Foster Family Foundation Branch” field- house in Hidden Valley park. Last year alone, we provided nearly $700,000 in scholarships to Club members in need as all of our programs for our low-income members living in public housing and our teens are free. Dur- ing the auction, you will be asked to contribute to our “Fund-A-Future” that will support our programs in our three public housing sites, low income schools, our programs for teens and our BE GREAT: Graduate drop-out prevention program! 3 NOW OPEN!!! NEW FIELD HOUSE IN HIDDEN VALLEY PARK “Foster Family Foundation Branch”

In an exciting partnership with the City of Bellevue, the Club built a new Field House in Hidden Valley Park that opened in March! This facility, located just north of the large field, has three full-size multi-use gyms, offices, a concession stand, classrooms and outdoor decks. The large field is completely turfed, while the remaining three fields have turf in- fields and natural outfields. We are thrilled that this fabulous sports facility is known as the “Foster Family Foundation Branch”. Please stop in and check it out - it is truly the only complete sports park on the Eastside!

4 NEW MAIN CLUB DOWNTOWN BELLEVUE “Jim and Sally A. Nordstrom Branch”

After serving thousands of kids and families for many years, it is finally time to build a new, state-of-the-art Main Clubhouse in downtown! The new facility will be located just north of the current Clubhouse, allowing us to stay open during construction. This new Club will be around 27,000 square feet with three floors that will include: a preschool on the bottom floor; games room, computer lab, teaching kitchen, gym and offices on the main floor; a space for middle and high school members on the top floor with a games room, internet cafe, and arts and crafts room along with administration offices. There will also be an outdoor play yard and opportunities for additional parking and improved traffic flow. We are thrilled that this new flagship Clubhouse will be known as the “Jim and Sally A. Nordstrom Branch!” The permits have been granted, architectural drawings completed, but we need your support to break ground this year. Andrew Moore Meet “Youth of the Year” Kaitlynn Patrick Moran Jen Mueller My story is called: “Key Lime Pie”. Once upon a time there Bret Neely was a young girl who loved to cook and bake. As a little girl she David Petterson used to spend time in the kitchen with her grandmother baking Devon Pritchard chocolate chip cookies. This little girl turned into a young woman Joe Razore who today loves to bake and hopes someday to become a world Bill Reller famous Pastry Chef. I especially love Key Lime Pie. A Key Lime Pie consists of three key components: the crust, the filling, and Matt Rossmeissl the topping. I have lived a life in which I created a strong outer Rodney Ryan crust. A year ago, I was sexually assaulted by another student. Neimeh Shalash After I was assaulted, I didn’t want to tell anyone because I Jacqualee Story* didn’t’ want people to think less of me. My pie filling was a recipe Robby Tonkin that included keeping my problems hidden inside and not telling anyone. No one knew that Daver Tiryakioglu when I got home I would sit and cry to myself asking why did this happen to me? My mom Steve Vincent and sister never knew anything was wrong with me and I definitely was not going to discuss Bill Weiand it with my verbally abusive step father who was an alcoholic and addicted to drugs. My pie Jill Whitney needed an adjustment to the recipe…it needed the topping, which turned out to be the Boys Kenneth Yokoyama & Girls Clubs of Bellevue. Since I have been a Club kid since I was little, at this crisis in Dmitry Yusim my life, I turned back to the Club. It provided a safe environment. I did not feel judged. My topping was made even more special because it included Club staff Masao and Melissa. Advisory Board Members Without these two club counselors, I would not be able to speak about my problems and talk Mike Brochu* about what I have gone through in my life. My topping also includes the Keystone program. Pat Dineen It has taught me leadership, confidence and I love giving back to my community. My perfect John Ellis* Key Lime Pie has the crust, filling and a topping with the ingredients that include caring, hope, confidence and, of course, love. My special pie, created at the Club, can never be Craig Gilbert replaced! Debbie Killinger Howard Lincoln Help Fund - A - Future! 9 The Robert Vasen Foundation 2015 Service To Youth Award Robert Jonathan Vasen lived his life by openly sharing his heart and extending himself to others. Robert understood people and wanted to help. He lost his life very early in a tragic accident in Bellevue but his spirit truly lives on through the Robert Vasen Foundation (RVF). This nonprofit organization is dedicated to carrying on what he did so naturally, as their mission is to carry on the spirit, values and actions of Robert Vasen by supporting the development of Seattle area youth and fostering action within the community. The Club is proud to say we were one of the first organizations to receive support from RVF. Club staff were only too aware of the fact that many of the low-income kids we serve were failing in school and were not on-track to graduate on time. This was very frustrating because our staff knew that with some much-needed support, they would and wanted to succeed. We had just heard about a drop-out prevention program in Los Angeles and were determined to do what we could for our kids. A few days later, the phone rang. It was David Vasen, Robert’s older brother, who said they had formed a foundation with local folks on the Board and wanted a way to support kids. It was truly one of those moments where everything came into alignment.

We started our BE GREAT Graduate! drop-out prevention program in the next few weeks in 2010. In the past 5 years, our counselors have not only helped hundreds of kids stay on track in school, but they have inspired an enabled them to go on to secondary schools and meaningful careers. The Robert Vasen Foundation, Board members including Evy, Danny and David Vasen, share our dedication to ensure that GREAT FUTURES START HERE and we salute them for their passion and ongoing support of the kids and families on the Eastside!
