Spring is here! Sports are in “full bloom” throughout Snohomish County.

The Sports Commission staff is gearing up for the 7th Annual Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame banquet and the 2nd Annual Snohomish County Youth Sports Festival this fall.

We are hosting several national sporting events, including the Pan American Club Taekwondo Championships, TriMonroe Triathlon (USA Triathlon Youth Elite & Junior Elite Race Series), and the returning Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour.

The have had another successful year by advancing into the WHL playoffs. The Everett AquaSox team is on deck for another exciting season and have a slate of promotions and themed nights sure to be a hit with fans.

Collegiate spring sports are in full swing as teams play for the chance to compete in the NWAC championships.

The late spring and summer calendar is packed with youth sports tournaments hosted by our local sports orga- nizations. Be sure to register your team today because many tourneys quickly sell out! There are sports tourneys and events for us adults, too! Compete in a beach volleyball, adult soccer, or a running event.

Save the Date: Snohomish Youth Sports Festival, November 12 Mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual Youth Sports Festival set for the Walt Price Student Fitness Center at Everett Community College.

The day will include fun activities for the kids and educational sessions on sports injuries including concus- sions. Youth sports organizations also will be on hand to provide more information about the various sports opportunities for the youth.

3 Upcoming Major Sports Events 2016 Pan American Club Taekwondo Championships, May 27-28 The Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) will bring its second annual club championships to the XFINITY Arena at Everett. Hundreds of taekwondo practitioners will compete for top honors in various categories, includ- ing Olympic-style kyorugi, World Taekwondo Federation poomsae (individual, freestyle, pairs, and team), individ- ual board breaking, and demonstration team.

Taekwondo is a 5,000-year-old Korean traditional martial art that incorporates physical fighting skills with en- hancement of mental and spiritual disciplines. The PATU governs taekwondo clubs and competition from over 40 countries in North, Central and South America. Many international athletes are expected to compete in the May championships.

TriMonroe Triathlon, June 18 Returning for its sixth year at Lake Tye Park is TriMonroe, a triathlon with super sprint and sprint distances for Youth Elite (ages 13-15) and Junior Elite athletes (ages 16-19). This draft-legal swim-bike-run competition is the third in a series of only four national-level qualifying triathlons to the USA Triathlon Youth & Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, Ohio, on July 30-31. The top 16 Junior Elite and top 19 Youth Elite finishers will qualify for the 2016 National Championships. The race series is a part of USA Triathlon’s development program to prepare aspiring triathletes for the dynamic rac- ing format of Olympic-style, draft-legal triathlon.

The race field is limited to 75 competitors and 30 relay teams. The triathlon is expected to sell out so immedi- ate registration is highly recommended.

The sprint-distance aquathlon, a swim-run competition, is open to all ages 10 to 85. The top three overall men and top three overall women will receive plaques. The top three finishers for boys and girls ages 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19, and men and women over 20 will receive ribbons.

The race is also limited to 75 total contestants so register now.

The City of Monroe, race organizer Total Health Events, and the Snohomish County Sports Commission invite the public to come out and cheer on these athletes. Admission is free and the experience is priceless.

4 Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour, July 9 The City of Monroe welcomes the return of the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour at Lake Tye. Top athletes from Australia, Europe, Canada, and the U.S. are expected to vie for top awards and cash prizes.

Wakeboarding is fast-action sport of riding a short, wide board resembling a surfboard and performing acrobatic maneuvers while being towed behind a boat.

Monroe is the third stop on the five-city tour and is located in the heart of State’s wakeboard manufac- turing industry. A high turnout of fans is expected at Lake Tye.

Pro Sports Everett Silvertips 2015-16 Hockey Season The Everett Silvertips hockey club concluded yet another successful regular season by making a 13th consec- utive appearance in the playoffs. Led by ’ first-round pick and 2016 NHL Draft prospect , the Silvertips executed Coach ’s game plan throughout the season and nearly captured a second consecutive U.S. Division title for their efforts.

In the first round of the 2016 WHL Playoffs, the Silvertips dominated the by winning four straight games in a best-of-seven game series.

However, the Thunderbirds beat the Silvertips in the second round best-of-five game series, 3-1.

Tips’ Carter Hart was named Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for his goal-stopping performance the week ending April 10. He has been nominated for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.

Building on its MVP-caliber 2015 season, the AquaSox are gearing up for another great year starting on June 17 in the Tri-Cities. The team’s first home game will be June 23 with a five-game stand against Boise.

Last year, the AquaSox finished atop the North division with a 42-34 record, good enough to clinch a first-round playoff berth. Ultimately the team fell to arch rival Tri-City Dust Devils in a hotly contested match-up.

In addition to all the action on the field, fans will enjoy a myriad of AquaSox promotions and theme nights in- cluding: • June 26 – Hawaiian Shirt Night presented by Kama-aina Grindz. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt to the park and you instantly qualify for the “Best Dressed Guest Contest” for a chance to win great prizes. Collegiate Sports Let’s Play Ball: Edmonds Community College Tritons The men’s baseball team will play Bellevue, Douglas, Olympic, Skagit Valley, and cross-town rivals Everett Com- munity College before the season ends on May 15.

The women’s softball team continues its play with the season ender against Everett on May 14.

7 The Latest: Everett Community College Trojans

The men’s baseball team (24-8 as of April 25) are seeking to play in the regional playoffs May 20-22 with the goal of reaching the NWAC Championships May 26-30.

The women’s softball team (11-13 as of April 25) will play in the Crossover Tournament in Yakima April 16-17 before returning to conference play. The NWAC Championships are slated for May 20-23 in Portland, OR.

The men’s and women’s track and field season kicked off April 23 and April 16 respectively. The track and field teams are battling for the opportunity to attend the NWAC Track & Field Championships, May 23-24, at Mt. Hood Community College.

8 Sports Events, Tournaments & Races Arlington 3on3 X-travaganza Basketball Tournament, August 13-14 The Arlington Airport is home to Western Wash- ington’s premier 3-on-3 basketball tournament that welcomes more than 200 teams with multi- ple age and ability divisions, including boys and girls grades three through high school, adult men and women, senior, and adult co-ed groups.

Festivities include overnight camping, conces- sions, music, vendors, and plenty of basketball action.

Baseball Legends Baseball Tournaments, June 10-12, June 18-19, July 9-10, & July 16-17 The Legends Baseball Club will host its annual weekend tournaments for youth ages 8-13 at Sky River Park in Monroe.

This year a U13 division will be added to the June 10-12 tournament after a one-year absence.

Equestrian Cascades Dressage, May 20-21 This two-day recognized dressage competition includes Training through Grand Prix, Musical Freestyle, Pas de Deux, Dressage Seat Equitation, Dover Medal, and qualifying classes for the 2016 Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Championships.

Football USA Football Regional Development Camp, May 28-29 This two-day program is packed with individual drills, 1-on-1 training, 7-on-7 playing situations, and more. Young athletes receive training from top coaches who are joined by area high school coaches, NFL alumni, and current NCAA coaches.

Held at Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, this is the only camp scheduled for the Pacific Northwest this year.

Go to the Regional Development Camps web page for more information. 10 Lacrosse Harvey Cup Boys Lacrosse Tournament, June 11-12 The two-day competition at Snohomish’s Harvey Field attracts many teams to play in a round-robin format with a guarantee of three games per team. In 2015, 29 teams played for glory.

The tournament is presented by the Snohomish Boys Youth Lacrosse Booster Club.

Cascade Cup Girls Lacrosse Tournament, July 29-31 The Snohomish Girls Lacrosse Club hosts its regional tourney at Harvey Field and guarantees a minimum of three games of pool play and playoff bracket to crown champions in all divisions.

Last year 30 girls’ lacrosse teams from California, Oregon, Washington, and Canada competed.

Golf Legends Baseball Club’s Benefit Golf Tourney, May 15

The youth baseball club is hosting its sixth annual benefit golf tournament at The Echo Falls Golf Club in Snohomish. Become a sponsor or play in a four- some. Shot gun start at 9 a.m.

11 Ice Skating Ice Fest Skating Competition, June 2 Athletes from numerous skating clubs will compete in this U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned event that welcomes skaters of all levels, including Basic Skills Free Skate, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Showcase, Dance, Pairs, Adult, Ensembles, Synchro, and Solo Dance.

The Seattle Skating Club is hosting this annual figure skating competition at Olympic View Ice Arena in Mount Lake Terrace.

Running Snohomish Women’s Run, May 8 Women of all ages are welcome to run or walk the half marathon or 10K races on a nearly-flat course along sce- nic banks of the . Back for its second year is the 1K run for elementary school-age girls. Men can run the race, too, knowing that $20 of their registration fee will benefit the Girls on the Run Snohomish County transformational learning program.

Paine Field Aviation Day 5K, May 21 Run or walk this super flat course that parallels the airport’s landing strip. Your race registration includes an inaugural race entry, an all-day pass to 2016 Aviation Day, a finisher’s medal, and a cus- tom race bib. Refuel with a post-race benefit pancake breakfast and then stay for all the high-flying fun of Aviation Day.

Everett Bubble Run™, August 27 It’s not about how fast you run, but how much FUN you can have with each step. Washington Rush Cup, August 5-7 As many as 400 youth soccer teams ranging from U9 to U19 will come to play for divisional championships.

The Washington Rush Cup moves from Skagit County to the Meadow Wood Equestrian Center in Snohomish. The 73-acre facility provides 40 laser-level grass fields of which 20 are full-sized, as well as an additional 20.5 acres for parking and RV camping.

Register your team now at WashingtonRush.com. Kohl’s U.S. Youth Soccer American Cup, August 5-7 This tournament for recreational youth soccer players ranging from U8-U19 will be played at Stocker Fields in Snohomish.

This U.S. Youth Soccer tourney program provides recreational players an opportunity to experience a consistent and high quality statewide tournament in a fun, family-like atmosphere. It fosters stimulation and excitement about soccer in an effort to increase the recreational players’ interest and love for the game.

Go to SnohomishYouthSoccer.org for registration and more information. 13 Triathalon Lake Tye Triathlon, August 6 This USA Triathlon-sanctioned event offers sprint and Olympic distances, a collegiate competition, and youth triathlon. The courses are flat and fast, awards are given to the top three in each age group, and finisher medals are awarded all who cross the finish line. Triathletes will enjoy the post-race full pancake breakfast.

AVPNext Beach Volleyball, June 11-12 AVPNext is the official developmental program of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. Elite amateur players, ages 14-44, play to earn AVP qualification points, a national ranking, and entry into AVP main draws. Matches will be played at Bottega Fitness Park in Snohomish.

Additionally, one men’s and one women’s team from the Northwest zone will receive a wild card berth into the main draw of the AVP Manhattan Beach Open in California.

AVPFirst Puget Sound Qualifier Beach Volleyball, June 12 The AVPFirst Championship Series is designed to provide high level com- petition between the best junior teams (U12-U18) in Evergreen, Puget Sound and Columbia Empire Regions of USA Volleyball.

This USA Volleyball-sanctioned competition will be held at Bottega Fitness Park in Snohomish.

A variety of youth sports – from basketball and baseball to soccer and volleyball – are available for participation in Snohomish County. Organized sports help youth of all ages learn about teamwork, stay active, and refine their motor skills.

Community Youth Sports Programs The Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County offers a variety of sports and recreational leagues through the year at its locations throughout the county.

The YMCA of Snohomish County provides a of youth development programs ranging from swimming lessons and Y Camp to youth sports for youth of all ages, abilities, and with special needs.

Sports camp organizer Skyhawks hosts camps in 15 dif- ferent sports for kids ages 3-12 in Everett, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mukilteo, and other loca- tions in Snohomish County.

15 County & City Parks & Recreation Programs A variety of youth, adult and senior sports, recreation, and fitness programs are now open at various county and city parks and recreation departments. From aquatics to golf to summer camps, you’ll find just the right activity for yourself and the whole family!
