We are proud to say that this has happened – and that in addition to the many feature films that in the past 3 years have closed their financing here in Venice and have then gone on to premiere at festivals worldwide, we can also celebrate the completion of documentaries, web series and virtual reality films. -

True Films 3.0
TRUE FILMS 3.0 This is the golden age of documentaries. Inexpensive equipment, new methods of distribution, and a very eager audi- ence have all launched a renaissance in non-fiction film making and viewing. The very best of these non-fiction films are as entertaining as the best Hol- lywood blockbusters. Because they are true, their storylines seem fresh with authentic plot twists, real characters, and truth stranger than fiction. Most true films are solidly informative, and a few are genuinely useful like a tool. The rise of documentaries and true cinema is felt not only in movie theaters, but on network TV and cable channels as well. Reality TV, non-fiction stations like the History Channel or Discovery, and BBC imports have increased the choices in true films tremendously. There’s no time to watch them all, and little guidance to what’s great. In this book I offer 200+ great true films. I define true films as documentaries, educational films, instructional how-to’s, and what the British call factuals – a non-fiction visual account. These 200 are the best non-fiction films I’ve found for general interest. I’ve watched all these films more than once. Sometimes thrice. I haven’t had TV for 20 years, so I’ve concentrated my viewing time on documentaries and true films. I run a little website (www.truefilms.com) where I solicit suggestions of great stuff. What am I looking for in a great true film? • It must be factual. • It must surprise me, but not preach to me. -

At Berlinale Film Festival
EUROPEAN COMMISSION - PRESS RELEASE 'Creative Europe' at Berlinale Film Festival Brussels 9 February - Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, will present the Commission's proposal for the new 'Creative Europe' programme at the Berlinale International Film Festival on 11/12 February. The Commission has proposed a budget of €1.8 billion over the 2014-2020 period for Creative Europe; of this, more than €900 million would be allocated to its 'MEDIA' arm, which supports the European film industry and the audiovisual sector. "Europe can provide significant added value through targeted investment in the audiovisual and cultural sectors, which are important contributors to growth and jobs. Creative Europe will help the European film industry to respond to the challenges of digitisation and globalisation, while at the same time helping us to safeguard and promote Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity," commented Commissioner Vassiliou. For two weeks (9-19 February), the 62nd Berlinale film festival will screen some of the best current European and international films, including 18 European films supported by the MEDIA programme (see list in annex); in total they have received more than €1.6 million, mainly for film development and distribution throughout Europe . The European Commission will have a MEDIA area at the festival, hosting around 175 professionals including producers, distributors and trainers. In addition, the Commission is supporting four specific aspects of the Berlinale: • 'Shooting Stars' is an initiative which aims to promote new acting talent. Ten actors from across Europe are chosen by a panel of experts from potential candidates nominated by the member organisations of the European Film Promotion (EFP) body. -
