Dear President Lawrence S. Bacow,

We urge you to negotiate a contract that serves the research and teaching assistants at Harvard—with protections from harassment and discrimination, with job security and fair pay, and with expansive and affordable healthcare including dental and vision for us and our dependents.

The Harvard administration has neglected issues facing student workers for too long. Over the past year, our voice has been loud and clear: we rallied, presented a petition with majority support, marched, and occupied University Hall demanding a fair contract. We cannot afford to wait any longer. It has been a year s ince we started negotiating our first contract: with few agreements on the table, we have lost trust in the administration’s commitment to a fair contract that serves our community and enables us to do our best work.

If the Harvard administration’s bargaining team continues to put forward untenable positions for negotiation and prevents us from attaining a fair contract that responds to core issues of our campaign, HGSU-UAW intends to hold a strike authorization vote.

We, the undersigned members of departments across Harvard University, commit to organizing to authorize our bargaining committee to call a strike if the Harvard administration does not allow a reasonable path forward for negotiation.
