  • 2017–2018 Annual Report Dear Community and Members
2017–2018 ANNUAL REPORT DEAR COMMUNITY AND MEMBERS, Another incredible JLD year has come and gone! Through the tireless efforts of our members, staff, partners and supporters, we have continued to raise the bar with a year full of Mission-centric moments. We held our first JLD L.U.V.S., Leaders United in Volunteer Service, on September 23, 2017 in the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea (GES) neighborhoods. During this inspiring day of service, 180 members donated 720 direct service hours benefiting the neighborhoods and seven nonprofit partners. It was a wonderful day, and we can’t wait to do it again on September 22. Kali Handford JLD granted $20,000 in May 2018 to four deserving partners: Florence Crittenton Services, The 2017–2018 JLD President GrowHaus, Heart & Hand Center and Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus. We will grant up to $50,000 in 2018-2019, and up to $30,000 in 2019-2020, bringing the total to $100,000 given to the community in honor of our monumental 100th Anniversary year. We completed accessibility-focused improvements at our JLD Headquarters on Delaware by installing a lift elevator, a ramp leading up to our front door, and a fire exit on the lower level of our building, increasing our building capacity from 49 to 123. Together, we achieved 150% of our fund development goals, with JLD Foundation assets close to DISTRIBUTION $8 million due to generous donations, healthy market conditions and the phenomenal forethought FROM JLDF of the members that established the Foundation in 1992. Today, the JLD Foundation provides approximately 30% of the League’s annual operating budget.

The myth of the unbeatable fighter is just that, a myth. In what will go down as the single most memorable UFC fight in history, Ronda Rousey was not only defeated, but systematically destroyed by a fighter and a coaching staff that had spent years preparing for that night. On 2/28, Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey were the two co-headliners on a show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The idea was that Holm, a former world boxing champion, would impressively knock out Raquel Pennington, a .500 level fighter who was known for exchanging blows and not taking her down. Rousey was there to face Cat Zingano, a fight that was supposed to be the hardest one of her career. Holm looked unimpressive, barely squeaking by in a split decision. Rousey beat Zingano with an armbar in 14 seconds.
