On 1 April 1895 the Indian Army was formed by Mohan Singh, The Indian Army is the land based branch of the . The President of Shri Ram Nath Kovind is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Army, and Manoj Mukund Naravane is the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). Operational control is exercised by the Ministry of Defence. Its Headquarter is in . It has six operational commands .It has a training Command in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Indian Army has 14,00,000 active personal.

The Indian Army formed from the armies of the East India Company, which became the British Indian Army, later were merged into the national army after independence. The units and regiments of the Indian Army have histories and have participated in a number of battles and campaigns around the world, winning many battle and theatre honours . After the freedom of India and the formation of Pakistan, the first war was in 1947 for the state of Kashmir. After that several wars that The Indian Army has faced like the Sino-Indian war in 1962, The Indo- Pakistan war in 1965 and again the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971, and Kargil war in 1999 and have returned all with victory. Apart from these wars, they have also been active participants in many other activities like peace keeping missions.

Indian Army they do follow certain principals in life and the qualities that makes them well organized and alert, which makes them stand apart from the rest of the world in many ways. The main qualities that they have are: Firstly Discipline, Secondly Love and Respect that they build for the county that no conditions could break it and the Do and Die situation, the courage that they have for their nation as they are willing to die while serving the nation.

The primary mission of the Indian Army is to ensure National Security and National Unity. Every soldier is a true warrior for the nation and is always ready to sacrifice his life in the service of nation. Our nation’s protection and safety are totally dependent on our soldiers. We must respect and salute our Indian Army for their great sacrifice which they are doing every day for keeping our country, our people together and safe.
