Foreword Ordinary People doing the Extraordinary Have your ever imagined that the people around you every day, whether they are chefs, teachers, shoemakers, or domestic helpers, are talented experts? Incredible people in our midst, fulfilling countless legends; these people include our enduring Oxfam Trailwalkers (OTW). They are determined to thrive, humble yet extraordinary, truly admired by all of us. The hardest challenge along the 100 km trail is not the rugged path, but four people working together unceasingly and unwaveringly within those 48 hours. The trailwalkers would have gone through rigorous training, meticulous planning and close communication with each other before being able to reach the finish line. These bittersweet experiences are just like what we have encountered in our lives. To make the OTW a success and even better every year takes great teamwork. Last year, we were happy to have the support of 5,000 walkers, 3,000 volunteers, over 38,000 donors, more than 5,000 support team members, and close to 20 sponsors. Since 1986, Hong Kong has seen over 100,000 people participate in the OTW and raise over HK$600 million. It originally started as a city-wide event and has now become an international one, with 14 regions taking part this year, including Korea, Australia, India, Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, and New Zealand. The effort and perseverance demonstrated by our walkers, volunteers, and support teams, echoes with our determination to fight against poverty, growing with the support of the people to forge head with our anti-poverty, advocacy, humanitarian, and education programmes to achieve our goal of creating a world without poverty! See you all at the starting and finishing lines on 15-17 November! Stephen Fisher Acting Director General Oxfam Hong Kong 1 2 A MESSAGE FROM AIA, PRINCIPAL SPONSOR 2019 is the fifth consecutive year that AIA is serving as the Principal Sponsor of Oxfam Trailwalker in the name of “AIA Vitality”. As a true advocate of healthy living, we hope to motivate more people to embark on their health journey by supporting Hong Kong’s largest fundraising hiking event. “Ordinary People Doing the Extraordinary” is the theme of Oxfam Trailwalker 2019. The theme reflects the event’s objective to unleash participants’ passion and perseverance to overcome every obstacle to reach the finish line. This echoes the mission of “AIA Vitality” which highlights how small, consistent actions in daily life can make a big difference in an individual’s health and wellness. Over the past four years, AIA has fielded the largest corporate team at the event to join other Trailwalkers in spreading positive energy and healthy vibes. Last year, we were honoured as “Overall Champion” as we raised a record-breaking donation amount of over HK$1.9 million. 2019 is the year of the AIA Centennial, and our participation in this event imparts more significance, meaning and purpose to this milestone. This year, we will be fielding 50 teams and qualify as the largest corporate team for the fifth year in a row. More of our staff and financial planners than ever before will support and take part in this charitable event. As we move forward together with Hong Kong through the next 100 prosperous years, AIA hopes to enhance the well-being of our community and to encourage everyone to live healthier, longer, better lives.
