St. Andrew the Apostle

Annual Report FY2020 JULY 1, 2019 - JUNE 30, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Andrew the Apostle,

Since my arrival at St. Andrew’s last November, it has been a blessing getting to know you. I am struck by how many of you have been members of the parish for 15, 20, or 25 years. It is a testament to our solid foundation of parishioners who have remained faithful over decades of ups and downs, triumphs and trials. I am pleased to be your new and I look forward to building on the foundation of those who have gone before me and those who have generously contributed to making the parish what it is today.

This year we were blessed to install a beautiful pipe organ in the church. Hundreds of families have contributed so far and we are striving to pay off the remaining debt by the end of this year. Dozens of volunteers participate in our liturgies as lectors, extraordinary ministers of Ho- ly Communion, cantors, and ushers. We’ve also extended our hours of Eucharistic adoration to allow us to draw closer to the Lord in the silence of prayer. Our parish school offers a wonder- ful and well-rounded education which includes teaching our youth the tenets of the faith and leading them in living out that faith in their lives. Our youth ministry program unites our mid- dle school and high school students in creative activities of faith and service. Our Office of Reli- gious Education and its many volunteers teach our youth about the Catholic faith, as well as offer many programs to continue the education of our adults. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults leads those who desire to enter the Catholic Church through learning about and living out the faith in preparation for entering the Church at . This year, this was delayed be- cause of the virus, but we were overjoyed to welcome three members into the fold.

Other Parish Ministries: Many other ministries help to uphold the teaching and values of the Church through service and evangelization. Our team, our altar servers, and the volunteers who clean our al- tar linens enhance our liturgies. Other ministries, too many to be described here, enhance our parish community through their works, such as the School PTO, the Schoenstatt , and our Study.

Highlights:

 85 parish youth participating in Youth Ministry, CYO and Scouting

 1,606 pounds of food items donated

 2 buses of parishioners attend the annual March for Life

 Donations provided Thanksgiving meals for 30+ families

 $307,291 pledged in the 2020 ’s Lenten Appeal up from $264,921 in 2019) Social Outreach: We continue to minister to the needy through collections for St. Lucy Food Bank and our Christmas Giving Tree collections. Despite the coronavirus disruptions causing many to tight- en up their budgets, there was an increase in donations to Western Fairfax Christian Ministry, showing our sacrificial giving and our desire to share our resources with those who are in need. This year we can be proud that we reached our goal for the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal for the first time in several years. These donations help us to serve many of the ministries that serve people throughout the Diocese, including Catholic Charities, the Office of Family Life, and the Office of Vocations, which form the men in the seminary to be our future priests.
