Props and Costume Policy Change We regret to announce that due to last-minute changes, Kumoricon policy must be amended as follows: • Absolutely no metal props will be allowed within Kumoricon convention space. This includes but is not limited to prop swords and stage steel. • No masks or other items which obscure an attendee’s face from view may be worn while in the corridors and common areas of the hotel. • No airsoft guns will be permitted. Plastic toy guns are acceptable, if not designed to fire a projectile. Guns must be obvious fakes at a distance of ten feet. • As always, props cannot be brandished in any way. Only when posing for a still photo may props be held in any manner that could be deemed threatening. The staff of Kumoricon extends our apologies to anyone adversely affected by this policy change. If you have any questions, please ask at the peacebonding desk. These policy changes supersede the policies printed in the main convention book. All other policies in the convention book remain in effect.

Con Tips

Quick Costume Tricks:

Nylons… a great part of many colorful costumes.

Tip: Stop a run with clear nail polish.

Button be gone? Seek a small piece of electrical tape…less residue than regular tape.

Hem torn? Super glue may be your greatest ally but it will ruin the fabric. Try glue stick and the dry cleaner can get it out later.

Hot costume? Try using some talc powder before cosplay to avoid stains.

Forgotten cosplay? Head to the creation station, much can be accomplished with Copic and a little ingenuity.

Anime Terms and Phrases:

Manga: Manga is the book form of Japanese art. Manga-ka: Japanese term for a manga artist. Chibi: Recognizable by their big eyes and exaggerated features, chibi in anime is a small character. Chibi in Japanese literally is a derogatory term for a child, but in anime these adorable characters steal our hearts. Kawaii: Japanese for “cute”, often referring to a chibi character. : Yaoi is male-male relationships in manga. Yuri: Yuri is the female equivalent of Yaoi (girl-girl romance). : Doujinshi is the Japanese term for a fan manga. You can get anything from hentai to serious stories. can be good if used nicely, such as to enhance a certain part of a manga series, or create a new episode. Other types of doujins can be gag series, which are like a comic strip of comedy. Be careful while searching for doujins, and make sure to read the descriptions carefully. Hentai: Hentai series are usually doujinshis or adult series, usually containing explicit adult content. Hentai in Japanese means “pervert”, so you sometimes hear a character call another “hentai”.
