Medienmitteilung Royal Arena Festival 2017 Orpund, 10. August 2017 Royal Arena Festival, 18. & 19. & Samstag, 19. A ‘post-varieties’ (Seargeant and Tagg 2011) analysis of the diversity and hybridity of linguistic production in the YouTube comments finds the notions of codemeshing and plurilingualism (Canagarajah 2009) useful in characterizing the language practices of the Chicanx community of the Southwestern US, while a focus on the linguistic practices of com- menters on Northeastern ‘core’ artists’ tracks validate the use of named language varieties in examining language attitudes and ideologies as they emerge in commenters’ discussions. Finally, this article advances the sociolinguistics of orthography (Sebba 2007) by examining the social meanings of a vast array of creative and novel orthographic forms, which often blur the supposed lines between language varieties. Keywords: Latinx, hip hop, orthography, codemeshing, language contact, language attitudes, language ideologies, computer-mediated discourse. news #34 MUNGOLIAN JETSET - MUNGODELICS Hot on the heels of 2011`s "Schlungs", the Jetsetters have kept those buttons busily pushed, and are already here with their next chapter installment, featuring 8 new nuggets entitled "Mungodelics". The album is essentially a psychodramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed "We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back" album of 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band`s musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus. All in all, "Mungodelics" musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. This is the Mungolian Jetset taking you on a ride through the seasons, and shifts of the days and nights, from the Cantina to the Ewok forest, via ritualistic dancing at Kilmin Taboour and stellar swimming in the galactic Goa. • BRK 170 SLAINE VS TERMANOLOGY Anti Hero CD
SLAINE VS TERMANOLOGY • ANTI-HERO Guest Appearances from: Bun B, Everlast, Conway, Ras Kass, Ill Bill, Madchild, Sick Jacken, Chris Rivers & more Production from: DJ Premier, Statik Selektah, Evidence, Psycho Les & more Since the beginning of their respective careers, Slaine and Termanology have been on a seemingly inevitable collision course. Over more than a decade, with each new album or devastating verse, the two New England hip hop heavyweights have continually raised the stakes, providing each other the fuel to push their lyrical intensity and creative output to new heights. As individuals, they helped spark a renaissance of classic East Coast hardcore rap; as a team, joining forces for the long-awaited full-length collaboration LP Anti-Hero this fall, they are cementing their status as battle-tested kings of the underground. Backed by an all-star roster of veteran producers and guest emcees, Slaine and Termanol- ogy have created an album that distills their distinct talents and points of view into a cohesive artistic vision that is sure to become an instant classic. Moving comfortably from swaggering showcases of lyrical prowess to highly personal and evocative songwriting, Anti-Hero proves that, even after all these years, Slaine and Term are still pushing each other to grow stronger. “We've grown a lot in the past five or ten years, as far as learning the business, becoming a man and handling responsibilities,” says Term, reflecting on the 20-plus years the pair 01. Still Here have collectively spent in the rap game. “If you took it back to 2005, I'm sure me and Slaine (Produced by The Arcitype) were more reckless.” 02.

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? What is “The Grimy Awards”? The best way to describe it is a collection of songs I wrote in tribute of my life’s most important influences. It’s kinda like my own personal awards show delivered through beats and rhymes. NOTES ON “PAUL BALOFF” I was always creative, even as a kid. At age three or four, I regularly destroyed my bedroom walls with crayons, leaving crude Gene Simmons and Maurice Sendak inspired hieroglyphics splattered across any blank surface I could find. Through my early obsession with KISS, I got into music. I had a portable AM/FM radio before any kid I knew had one. Then I got a Panasonic boombox & started making my own mix tapes. I really dug Michael Jackson, Blondie, Hall & Oates, Billy Joel & KISS. Before I knew it though, my favorites flipped to Run-DMC & Iron Maiden. I was already jamming out on the used bass guitar my Uncle Howie had recently given me. At the same time, instead of paying attention during 6th grade math class, I was scribbling raps in my notebook, trying to create my own version of “Jam On It” or “Roxanne, Roxanne”. Growing up in NYC during the ‘80s was crazy. Hardcore hip hop was happening right outside my window around the same time I first heard that story about Ozzy Osbourne - the insane maniac biting the heads off bats and throwing them into the audience. This blew my mind and captured 100% of my attention. Musically, anything defined as either subtle or introspective was not for me.

  • (Aka Skillionaire, the Polo Rican) Is One of Hip Hop's Legendary Artists
THIRSTIN HOWL BIO Thirstin Howl the 3rd (aka Skillionaire, The Polo Rican) is one of Hip Hop’s legendary artists and influential icons. Of Puerto Rican descent from the Marcus Garvey Village projects in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, Thirstin first became immersed in Hip Hop culture as a graffiti writer and a b-boy dancer in the early 80’s. Thirstin is also co-founder of the Lo Lifes, the Brooklyn street fashion gang of the late 1980’s that has now expanded to become a Hip Hop organization leading the way in fashion, rap music, graffiti, film and literary works. He first gained notoriety in 1997 via The Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype (Sept. 97) whilst teaming with eminem for Los Angeles’ Rap Olympics. Since then, Thirstin Howl the 3rd has consistently and independently manufactured albums, videos, movies, a clothing line and published literature for over three decades. As an MC, Thirstin Howl the 3rd is a legendary stylist with an idiosyncratic tempo, dynamic word usage and classic punchlines through some of the most cleverest song structures ever recorded. It has made him a cultural icon with content that merges the experiences of the Puerto Rican community (the oft ignored co-creators of Hip Hop culture’s founding elements), the most impoverished areas of Black and Brown New York City and the specific insights as a founder of the Lo Lifes, being a fashion icon, a survivor of the prison industrial complex and cultural arts visionary. From the cult classic debut, Skillionaire LP, intended as a demo, that introduced a grimy and refreshingly unpolished world wildings to 2017’s Skillmatic that reveals a master of tempos, complex phrasing that stretches to Spanish and spanglish and fully fleshed topic execution, Thirstin Howl’s MC catalog is all time great.
