I believe it is the most comprehensive and accurate you will find anywhere. However, although I have tried to make sure the information presented here is as correct and accurate as possible, some reservation is always necessary. Research is continuously progressing and may lead to new findings. Website In addition to the Racing Circuits Factbook file you are viewing, my website www.wegcircuits.nl offers several further downloadable pdf-files: theRennen! Races! Vitesse! pdf details over 700 racing circuits in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria, and also contains notes on Luxembourg and Switzerland. The American Road Courses pdf-documents lists nearly 160 road courses of past and present in the United States and Canada. These files are the most comprehensive and accurate sources for racing circuits in said countries. My website also lists nearly 5000 dates of motorcycle road races in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland, allowing you to see exactly when many of the motorcycle circuits listed in the Rennen! B Page 1 of 36 EDITORSPEAK … email: [email protected] I recently received an email from a Club member of some 4 years standing which stopped me dead in my tracks. This unfortunate member had only last month discovered (and then only by chance) that the Club actually published a magazine. I’m not sure how he had slipped through, however the constructive criticism and advice he offered has resulted in a review of how we communicate with our members. Look forward to a covering letter with your membership card renewal which will explain some of the “ins and outs” of the Club that us old hands maybe take for granted (this will also be sent to all new members) and more use of Facebook to advise of, for example, the magazine going live. This should hopefully capture ALL our members and open it up for any others that may be interested. Thanks Trent, for taking the time to highlight an issue none of us was aware of, rest assured the Committee realise that effective communication with our members, and the wider community, is a cornerstone to the Club’s continued success. There’s an old saying “the more things change, the more they stay the same”. I was reminded of this recently when reading a book called “Fifty Years with Motor Cars” by A.F.C. Hillstead. Hillstead was one of the founding members of Bentley Motors, manufacturers of the quintessential English “between wars” sports car. His experience with selling cars went back to the very early 1900’s and he was involved with W.O.

  • President's Note Our New Patron Historic Heritage Award for Barry
President’s Note We are getting ready to get back into the race season with only a few months until the South Island Endurance round. We had a good turnout at the AGM and a quick meeting is always a good meeting. It was also good to see plenty of people show up to pay their respects to Wally. He led a very fascinating motor sport based life. Rachael Beck President Our new Patron Barry Keen has been appointed Patron of the Southland Sports Car Club. Keen becomes just the fourth patron in the club’s seventy-one year history following in the footsteps of his good friend Jack Johnstone who passed away last year. Like the past club patron’s Keen has a long and significant association with the club and is well respected, and is an ideal choice to become the figurehead of our club. It is appropriate that Keen is following Johnstone as the club’s patron as it was Johnstone who introduced Keen to motor racing. Keen’s first car was a Ford 8 Special purchased from Johnstone in 1956. Keen has been a member of the Southland Sports Car Club since that time. Keen said he was humbled to be named as patron. I am honoured to be the latest patron of the club. Historic Heritage Award for Barry Keen It has been a big few months for Southland Sports Car Club Life Member, Barry Keen, as he was also presented with a Historic Heritage Award at the recent Motorsport NZ Awards in Wellington. The Historic Heritage Awards were instigated in 2014 in recognition of services to historic and classic racing and Keen certainly justifies this prestigious award.

Official Opening of Hampton Downs 24th January 2010. From Left Chris Amon, Claire Roberts, Howden Ganley, Penelope Watson, Chris Watson. Sue Roberts, Tony Roberts, Peter Harris (Mayor), Greta Hulme, Patricia McLaren Great start to 2020 with the announcement that Hampton Downs will be hosting the Virgin Australia Supercars. Good to see Hampton Downs recognised as a world class facility. I am sure Tony Quinns team will provide a great event. On Facebook I have read the keyboard warriors pointing out that Hampton only has resource consent for 20,000 spectators but in the past, Tony Roberts and myself organised special event resource consents for 50,000 spectators a day and traffic plans to cope with this number. The Waikato Council are very proactive and will make this event happen. Also, for the last international rally, HD had 23,000 spectators in one day (with a low grade traffic plan) and had no traffic problems. As to the lack of seating, it is far more economical to provide temporary grandstands like was done at the McLaren Festival. HRC promoted classes Improved Production Cars are starting to get reasonable numbers and is an ideal class for slightly modified saloon cars. • Magazine July 2019
B Manawatu Car Club Inc MAGAZINE JULY 2019 Something for Everyone Page 1 of 40 EDITORSPEAK… Email Trevor at [email protected] I am going to make just one comment on NZTA’s latest revelation that according to their risk assessment tool apparently only 5% of the nation’s roads should have a 100 kph speed limit and their suggestions that therefore the speed limits on major State Highways be lowered to between 60 and 80 kph. My comment - this just shows how tunnel visioned and totally out of touch with reality the staff of this Government RIP Niki Agency can get, and WE get to pay them!! Enough said. Two trips recently, and I witnessed two potentially disastrous crashes avoided by the narrowest of margins. One on our road when the car in front veered onto the wrong side of the road, a straight bit of road I might add, and avoided the oncoming ute and trailer by about a foot. No brakes just a swerve back again so clearly a case of distraction of some sort, but the poor guy in the Ute must have had skid marks in his undies afterwards. I know I did. The second an unbelievable passing manoeuvre on the Desert Road. A queue of traffic travelling at about 95 kph and one clown takes it upon himself to pass the first 3 cars. It would have been fine had he not started overtaking on the dotted yellow line and finished on the double yellow, uphill and into a bend with NO visibility.
