It’s time to create some air movement people! SEPTEMBER 2021 Presents All These Options: Atlanta British Motorcar Day September – oh September – has long been my The Norcross British Car Fayre most anticipated month of the year. I was in the VTR nationals Convention Dry-Cleaning business for ten years in my younger 6-Pack Trials days, and there is nothing hotter and more humid Brits in the Valley (Columbus GA) than a Dry cleaner with a shirt laundry during July Autumn in the Mountains (Hendersonville, NC) and August in the south. Every year, when September hit, it was as if somebody fipped a Add to the above list, all of the regular cruise in switch. GTA Meeting Minutes August 17 2021 By Lori Smith

Attendees: Jim Orr Neal Turner Tom Hodges Abe and Susan Cheije Steve Kohlhagen Lori Smith

Meeting Minutes: Our August meeting was held at Mazzy's Bar, and although the bar itself seemed sparsely attended, there were a ton of cars and apparently there was a big pool tournament being held in the back room. Needless to say, none of us went and checked it out. Since we had a sparse group and a late start, we only have a few, but important things to share with GTA members:

5 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021

2021 Atlanta British Motorcar Day - 9/4/2021: As you all know, the 2021 Atlanta British Motorcar Day is fast approaching! Link to the show website is https://atlantabritishmotorcarday.org/. We need GTA members to register ASAP! Date is Sept. 4th - the link to register is https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ atlanta-british-motorcar-day-tickets-160058147227. If you'd like to register more than one car, there is a discount, see link. Registration includes the cost to register your car, however, entry into the Tellus Science Museum is separate. I went there on a feld trip with my son's 3rd or 4th grade class, and it was well worth it, if you'd like to make a full day of it! The show hours are from 10am - 2pm. Cool off afterwards by visiting the Tellus Science Museum, you won't be disappointed!

The GA Triumph Association will bring food, tents, etc and there will be trophies (per class) - we will setup the tents, and we'll be selling off all current GTA swag - at a discount!!! Did I already say that if you plan on coming you need to register ASAP! Yes this will be a fun year at a new temporary venue as this year, it is being held at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville. Abe Cheije shared that this is a temporary location, because next year the Atlanta British Motorcar Day will be moving to it's new and "permanent" location, The Savoy Car Museum, which is being built in Cartersville. This will be a fantastic venue for 2022, and a great place to visit and tour!

I did some research on the new locale for next year...The Savoy Car Museum is was designed by INOX Design. If you would like to see the amazing and innovative designs, go to https://www.inox-design.com/projects/museums-exhibits/ The museum campus will feature a variety of automobiles. The 65,961 square feet space includes a café/dining room, and a car theater. The park grounds are designed to support automotive events (such as Atlanta British Motorcar Day), and competitions. The museum website is https:// savoymuseum.org/, and they have a Facebook page too if you'd like to visit: https:// www.facebook.com/savoyautomuseum/. I must say it looks pretty amazing! And they are excited to host events like this - as they say on a post "We can't wait to see cool cars like

6 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021 these on the museum grounds" accompanied by a black & white photo of some very cool cars from the Mid50s! The Savoy Car Museum is tentatively scheduled to open Fall 2021.

2021 Atlanta British Car Fayre - 9/11/2021: If you can handle two car shows back-to-back, the following weekend, on September 11th, register your car for the 2021 Atlanta British Car Fayre! Or just come for fun and have a good day driving your Triumph to Historic Old Norcross, where it is held annually. With lots to see and do, this year's Atlanta British Car Fayre will be no different! Always a great place to be, with lots of food options and a good turnout. The website for the show is https://www.atlantabritishcarfayre.com/home-1.html, and the link to register is https:// fs2.formsite.com/r44cVX/dg1zrbq7rv/index.html (Note: payment is done thru PayPal or your PayPal account).

Hopefully both these shows are blessed with good weather, good attendance - not too hot, and hopefully the afternoon summer thunderstorms will stay away until it's over!

2021 Christmas Party: This year's Christmas party is once again being generously hosted by GTA members Abe and Susan Cheije! Susan shared that it takes several days to setup all the decorations, but we'll all be looking forward to it - should be fun!!! I think by then, we'll all be ready to share in some GTA Christmas spirit!!! More details to follow in the coming months. ------So that's' it folks! Again, please consider joining us at the upcoming British Motor Car Days held this year on Saturday September 4th at the Tellus Meseum in Cartersville. For only a $20 registration fee you get a catered BBQ lunch on the GTA plus the opportunity to show your pride & joy. Register here.

. . . . . and so That is Why I Bought This TR61 By Don Kelly

I am new to the GTA and really enjoying it When I was young back in 1969 I had a so far. My retirement project is a 1972 TR6 1959 TR3 that I restored as best I could that I am in the process of restoring and and had it painted. 10 years later I did a really enjoying it. better job and actually painted it myself.

14 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021

Overall I kept it for 20 years also had a TR3 parts car, a 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MK2 (w Triple SU carburetors) and my wife had a 1974 MG Midget. I went to England and bought a 1971 Norton Commando and spent 6 weeks driving it all over UK and Ireland. . . the one British car I always loved but never owned was the TR6. We really loved British sports cars/bikes back in the day . . . and it never went away...... and so that is why I bought this TR6 project car. Unfortunately, the hood was "Oil-canned" I have the body off and just had it media during the Media blast . . . so not sure if I blasted. I made a wooden rotisserie (Elan can fx and may have to fnd a decent used Yakov@ Rusty Beauties) and it works one with no dents . . . . (do you have any great! Easy to move around and fip over ideas if a GTA member might have one for etc. sale or know of a body shop that could fx it by shrinking the metal?)

When I got the car it looked really good, was complete and it was drivable. But engine ran very rough and car felt very "loose". The vacuum hoses were off the carbs but easy fx and was able to get the engine running pretty well. Took a cold & then hot compression test and came within within 5% per cylinder.

Interior was in great shape and had a new top.

15 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021

But I was aware of the frame issues so I found enough rust to know I had to fx it. decided to degrease, scrape and power So I decided to take the body off. Overall I wash the parts of the rear frame that I am very pleased with the condition of the could reach to see if there was serious body and frame for a 50 year old British rust. car.

After the Media Blasting (glass bead) my next step is to put an epoxy primer on the exposed metal and POR 15 rust preventer and top coat on the underside of the body, inner fenders, foor boards, etc. I will leave all of the repair areas open or cover with Zinc WeldThu primer so that I can repair them later.

16 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021

I took the Rusty Beauty rotisserie plan and I am really enjoying this project and look added small furniture mover dollies to the forward to driving it to a GTA event at bottom of each leg. This way I can easily some point. move the body around and they simply slide on and off. I also put dollies on the frame so that I can easily move it around too.

I have not worked on cars much since I Regards was young so I went to Harbor Freight to Donagh & Sue Kelly buy a bunch of inexpensive tools to do GTA this . . . .

Garland Mountain Sporting Clays By Jim Doran

A recent invitation from some a scenic 72 mile drive from Peachtree Registry MG friends led to Dawsonville to Waleska to visit

17 Volume 37, Issue 09 September 2021

Garland Mountain Sporting Clays and have lunch at their grill. As you can see when you visit their website, Garland Mountain Sporting Clays offers an opportunity that consists of shotgun rentals (or bring your own) and then a 14-station shooting course reached via a golf cart.

This beautiful location offers stupendous vistas and fun for the whole family. We had a great lunch at the grill with a fully stocked bar. For some reason, before we ordered a beer we were asked if we were intending to shoot afterwards! Twice a month during the summer they offer an evening meal under the stars. I’ll keep this destination in mind for a future GTA drive. Meanwhile, if you inclined to dine and shoot, go for it!

Thanks to Mike Hurst’s planning earlier in the year, our GTA member Tom Brand, opened his Duluth International Auto Service’s dynamometer to two other GTA members, Jim Smith with a 1967 GT6 and Jack Voller with a 1976 Spitfre. Jim had just made a carburation change to his GT6 and Jack was interested in his car’s actual output. Tom’s dynamometer performed fawlessly and provided the indisputable “tale of the tape”. Little British Cars Enhance the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade submitted by Paul Flexner PMGR

The sun came up bright and hot on the morning of July 4th. Yes, it was to be a perfect morning for the parade, although a bit on the warm side by the time we reached the end around 10:45. Fifteen British Cars arrived to ferry the Veterans of the VFW – 5 TD’s, 3 TF’s, 1 MGA. 1 Midget, 4 MGB’s and a lonely Triumph 2000. Of course, we arranged the cars in order of the year they were built so the 1949 Triumph led the way with a veteran of the Korean War and an active duty Major and his daughter enjoying the ride. YES, there is room for 4 people in the Triumph when the rumble seat is open. The beauty of the morning was that every Veteran had a seat and all seats were occupied.

Although the British cars were the most beautiful in the parade (we’re not at all biased), there were many others including a 1928 Studebaker that is still in its original paint and condition. (It was stored in a barn for over 50 years and was easily brought back to its running condition.) One of the highlights of the Parade was the gaggle of Electric cars representing the cars of the future. Some even suggest that as the future becomes electric, we in the classic car community may find obtaining fuel to be a challenge – but this I doubt seriously.

There were also many floats, four marching bands, the usual dignitaries riding in newer convertibles and groups with banners walking from every group imaginable. Special thanks are in order to Pat Callahan of the VFW and Don Harmer of SEMGTR for making this all possible.

When we reached the end, we were greeted by several food venders and lots of milling around talking and exchanging information. For many this was only the beginning. Due to the heat, we headed back to the Flexner’s for the Grill-Out where many wonderful side dishes arrived to accompany the Hamburgers and Hot Dogs that came off the grill.

Little British Cars Enhance the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade (continued from previous page)

As we entered the parade route, we were greeted warmly by the hordes of spectators lining the sides of the street. Official estimates are that 25,000 people lined the streets. Since the rules were being strictly enforced, we were not allowed to throw candy which is the custom of this parade. Tom and Deb Nadelhoffer, Gail Norton and Jeri Schaller were not to be stopped from handing out candy (which was allowed) and chose to walk the route with baskets of candy for all of the kids. Even with the 40+ pounds of candy, they ran out before the end of the parade.

We were joined by two journalists from Morocco who are in Atlanta as part of a program hosted by the Georgia Center for International Visitors and their translator. From what we heard, they were blown away by the enthusiasm surrounding the parade and then the warmth of the welcome from our members. This was truly a highlight of their experience in Atlanta.

Of course, what would a 4th of July Grill-Out be like if there was not a bit of rain. Shortly after the last of the burgers and dogs came off the grill, the skies opened with a bit of rain. Fortunately, everyone had time to cover their cars and a few of us even settled in under the tent and enjoyed our lunch while others enjoyed the cool air in the house.

There were a few minor glitches for the cars along the parade route. Two TF’s had to pull off for a bit but were able to complete the parade under their own power. And then there was the MGB that needed pushing from time to time which provided some great photo opp’s.

One of the highlights of the day we didn’t learn about until the following week. Hermann Schaller’s 1949 Triumph 2000 was chosen the outstanding classic car in the parade. For this he was awarded a blue ribbon which we were able to present to him at the July 10th Meeting at the Dunwoody Tavern. Congratulations to Hermann and his beautiful automobile.
