Holley Central School District Holley Dimension October 2009 School Board Recognition Week

Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members:

Governor Patterson has declared the week of October 19-23 as School Board Recognition Week. It provides us with an opportunity to thank the members of our school board for their dedication to children, learning, and the community. School board members devote countless hours of service to elementary and John Heise, President Brenda Swanger, Vice-President secondary public schools as they continually strive for improvement, excellence, and progress in education. School board members not only respond to the educational needs of the community, but also serve in the interests of children. Therefore, it is fitting to acknowledge the level of commitment and contribution made by members of school boards. I am thankful that there are individuals who care so much about their community and the children in it that they would spend so many hours working for the benefit of both. Please join me in thanking the Elaine Berg Norman Knight Dorothy Morgan members of our Board of Education, who do such a great job in promoting excellence in our schools:

New cameras increase security at Elementary School and Bus Garage Thirty-six security cameras were recently installed at the Elementary School and Bus Garage to provide enhanced security of the buildings and surrounding grounds. “The old cameras were dying out and we were able to obtain new ones with significant state aid,” said Don Penna, superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. He, along with Transportation Director Fran Gaylord, are responsible for monitoring the cameras. Building administrators have access as well. The new system is a digital video recording system with secure Internet access. The cameras are either motion activated or have pan/tilt features. The 30 cameras at the Elementary School are located in the hallways, cafeteria, playground and parking lots. The six bus garage cameras are on the interior and exterior of the building. “This is double the number of old cameras,” said Mr. Penna. “And there are added features – the pictures are clearer, there’s more recording space and a zoom feature, and we can copy a recording and turn it over to law enforcement.” New security cameras at the Middle School/ High School are slated to be part of the Phase II School Improvement Project.
