GLAZED TILES IN OVAR República Square, Galinhas Square and Neptune Square, all in the city cen- tre, live up to the Portuguese glazed tile tradition: the streets are paved with specially manufactured glazed tiles arranged in 2m wide panels, now more wear resistant and non-slippery. These tiles are painted with tradi- tional tile patterns that combine well with the décor of the façades of the houses in those blocks. Ovar hopes to promote a valuable built heritage in which tiles are not only static elements, but also an unusual modern and entertaining feature, in such a way as to show that the occupation of public spaces can also be done with imagination.
