Village Design Statement Following the information in last month’s News and Views and a request for people to join the Village Design Statement Steering Group, we have had a great response. The first meeting of the group, which included tour of the village was held on Saturday 3rd November, with more meetings scheduled.

We need you ! The Parish Council still has several vacancies for Parish Councillors. If you are interested and want to know more, please contact the Clerk, Sarah Cruse in the Parish Office at the Village Hall 01480 830360 or email [email protected] Page 4 Community

This year the Cubs & Scouts were joined by the Beavers as we went around the village on Halloween knocking on doors for our annual Trick or Eat Collection. Simply Earlier this month the Scouts visited the food bank to e-mail [email protected] or visit our website understand how the food that they collect is used to support www.papworthscouts.org.uk those in need in the area. It was quite an eye-opening experience for them to understand the types of people that require the support of the food bank. They now have a much better understanding how the donations are used. The Foodbank helped 1,378 adults and 991 children last year and that number will unfortunately need to be higher this year. On top of that they also provide over 200 Christmas food hampers to those families in need. We helped pack up some weekly packages on our visit to understand the types of foods that are distributed. Based on the average weight of one of these packages the food that was donated this Halloween will help another 49 families. The good news is that the example that Papworth has set has spread. This year a few other local Scout groups started collection for their local food banks and feedback nationally means next year there will be many more groups getting involved. So again, a big thank you to all the children who were involved who gave up their Halloween for a good cause (all though some sweets were also collected!!) Their behaviour on the night was impeccable. Also, a big thank you to the leaders and helpers who supported us and finally thank you again to those that so generously donated. See you next year.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT Papworth is a thriving village that many call home. Yet what is home without stability, reliability and possibility? Below is a short article I have written concerning my part actions taken to prevent the complete withdrawal of the X3 bus service, and how the removal of public transport impacts semi-rural communities such as our own. I have condensed a long, arduous process into a few sentences - I must point out was not as simple as it may appear - it took tremendous amounts of support from residents, countless behind the scenes negotiations and some strong campaigning by councillors and MP's - this is just a brief overview of the situation for those who may have not been fully aware of its progression.
