On Saturday July 6 at 11:30am, five men will be ordained as priests for the Diocese; the highest number ordained at one time in nearly 20 years, and a real blessing for our Diocese. The police were invited to attend the meeting in the church hall on May 13 after concerns were raised due to events around the world of religious communities being attacked by extremists. Parishioners listened attentively on what John Dolan, Counter Terrorism Advisor, had to say regarding what to look out for, and how to report any sus - picious behaviour or activities in or around the church by people unknown to the parish community. It was highlighted by the counter ter - rorism officer that there is no specific threat against any faith communities, but all should be vigilant in the course of everyday worship. I The Norwich Secular Franciscan ‘Pax et Bonum’ Fraternity held a Day of Recollection on Wednesday May 22 in the Barn at Orchard Cottage, Hainford, report Anne Murrin. Present were all members of the Norwich fraternity and some members of other frater - nities from around the region. Sisters Elaine and Francis, the Poor Clares from Swaffham, were also present, as were Friars Gerard Mary Toman and James Mary McInery from the community of Grey Friars based in Wals - ingham, along with Brother Joe who has recently joined them from Dublin. Two thought-provoking talks on Franciscan Joy were given by Fr Gerard and Mass was celebrated in the middle of the day by Fr James with Fr Gerard concelebrating. This was followed by a shared lunch and a wander through the beautiful garden of Robert and Claire Hardie who very kindly hosted the event.

I Nicholas Wigglesworth, Penny Swallow, Sioned Williams and Russell Butcher, were welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil, at St Mary’s Ipswich. Also pictured (centre) is Deacon Chris Brighten, who took the RCIA programme for 2018/19. Nicholas and Sioned were bap - tised, and all received the sacraments of confirmation and First Holy Communion from Fr Kevin Jordan, a Westminster Diocesan priest, who celebrated the Easter Triduum at St Mary’s.

They were honouring their founder St Arcangelo Tadini, on the tenth anniversary of his , and wishing Sr Letizia a very happy 80th birthday. On Saturday evening, May 18, in the Mass at St Luke’s, the sisters provided beautiful music and dance and gave testimony to their history and way of life. I St Benet’s in Beccles joyfully celebrated one of the annual parish high - lights, as a packed congregation saw 12 young parishioners making their First Holy Communion reports Terry O’Brien. Proud parents and siblings were present on Sunday May 5 – with many grandparents and other family members too – as the young people played a full part in this, their most special Mass. They all had a role in the liturgy, as the communicants delivered both the Readings and the Bidding Prayers. The 12 youngsters had undertaken regular weekly tuition with our devoted Catechists – led by Toni Harrison and our Priest-in-Charge, Fr Martin Gowman. They were given strong support by their parents and guardians, both in the formal sessions on Saturday forenoons and in the essential, on-going, follow-up training at home. After Mass, there was a wonderful gathering in the Parish Hall. All parishioners congratulated the new communicants – they had made this Mass a truly significant event in our parish year. Pictured are all the new communicants, with Priest-in-Charge Fr Martin Gowman. Picture by Toni Harrison.
