Sierra Club Form Commentletter: Dear National Energy Board, As a North American Resident, I Am Very Concerned About a Proposal B ____ P1Y-3e---1996 22:19 P. 03/142 Sierra Club Form Comment Letter: Dear National Energy Board, As a North American resident, I am very concerned about a proposal by Enbridge Inc. to reverse a part of its Line 9 pipeline in Ontario. I urge you to consider whether this proposal is an independent project, or if it is actually part of a longer term plan to take Canadian oil from western Canada to eastern Canada and then through the existing Portland-Montreal pipeline through New England, terminating at Portland Flarbor in Maine. This longer-term plan would have signi:cant impacts on our shared environment, waterways, and climate that should be assessed before making a decision. I am one of hundreds of thousands of North Americans who are opposed to the expansion of tar sands oil into the U.S. because tar sands oil results in more greenhouse gas pollution than conventional oil, and because its acidic and corrosive properties damage pipelines and can lead to frequent spills. These and other issues must be considered, as this initial proposal will open the door to expanding the project down the road. Sincerely, The following names represent the 9,359 Sierra Club members who signed onto this form letter or wrote individualized letters.
