19, CATHOLIC MISSION STREET, P. O. BOX 8, LAGOS-NIGERIA TEL/FAX: 01- 8448669 Monthly Bulletin /Circular MAY, 2017/No. 056 TO ALL PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS WORKING IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF LAGOS, AND THE LAY FAITHFUL Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord: 1. THE MONTH OF MAY: You are all welcome to the month of May, generally known to all Catholics as the Month of Our Lady. In this Season of Easter, we all rejoice with the Blessed Virgin Mary whose Son rose triumphant from the dead and He is seated at the right hand of the Father. As we providentially celebrate the Marian Year, you are encouraged especially during this month to offer up to Mary from your hearts, fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. Giving credence to this, Pope Pius VI in his Encyclical on the month of May “Mense Maio” wrote: ‘the benefits of God’s mercy come down to us from Mary’s throne in greater abundance during this month’ . We therefore request you to make special devotions in her honour this month. These devotions should include group recitation of the Holy Rosary, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Talks on Our Lady and visits to Marian Grottos; amongst other pious activities. Also, in this month we commemorate the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ into heaven (14 th May) and the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth (25 th May). It is our prayer that Mary, Mother of Peace will continue to intercede for us all. Amen. 2. Max Planck Studies in Global Legal History of the Iberian Worlds
The School of Salamanca: A Case of Global Knowledge Production Max Planck Studies in Global Legal History of the Iberian Worlds Editor Thomas Duve The book volumes in the Max Planck Studies in Global Legal History of the Iberian Worlds publish research on legal history of areas which have been in contact with the Iberian empires during the early Modern and Modern period, in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. Its focus is global in the sense that it is not limited to the imperial spaces as such but rather looks at the globalization of normativities within the space related to these imperial formations. It is global also in another sense: The volumes in the series pay special attention to the coexistence of a variety of normativities and their cultural translations in different places and moments, decentring classical research perspectives and opening up for different modes of normativity. The monographs, edited volumes and text editions in the series are peer reviewed, and published in print and online.

THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY of AMERICA Christ and the Triumphant Victims: Relics and the Altar in the Ordo Dedicationis Ecclesiae E
THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA Christ and the Triumphant Victims: Relics and the Altar in the Ordo dedicationis ecclesiae et altaris A DISSERTATION Submitted to the Faculty of the School of Theology and Religious Studies Of The Catholic University of America In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree Doctor of Philosophy © Copyright All Rights Reserved By Suzanne Sarah Herold Washington, DC 2016 Christ and the Triumphant Victims: Relics and the Altar in the Ordo dedicationis ecclesiae et altaris Suzanne Sarah Herold, Ph.D. Director: Michael G. Witczak, S.L.D. This dissertation examines the use of relics in the Ordo dedicationis ecclesiae et altaris in light of the Second Vatican Council’s liturgical theology. The dissertation utilizes the method described by Kevin Irwin in Context and Text. The dissertation begins with a historical study of the extant rites of dedication of a church. It studies how the rite of dedication developed and how relics became a required element of the ritual, including the translation, vigil and deposition of relics. The work looks at the meanings associated with relics as well as the perceived relationship between relics and the altar. Beginning with the Medieval period, relics were understood to be necessary for dedication, with the celebration of Mass a festive completion of the rite. Rites of dedication include the deposition of relics as a central ritual moment from the fourth century through the middle of the twentieth century. Through historical study, the use of Conciliar documents, and the examination of the role of relics in the schemata of the Consilium, this dissertation presents an analysis of the shifts in the understanding regarding the dedication of a church. -
Dalla Parte Del Re. La Santa Sede Di Fronte Alla Questione Catalana E Basca Nei Primi Tre Decenni Del Novecento
Saggi e ricerche DALLA PARTE DEL RE. Parole chiave: Santa Sede, nazionalismo basco, nazionalismo catalano, Pio XI, Primo de Rivera On the king’s side. The Holy See and the Catalan and Basque issue in the first three decades of the 20th century Based on nuncios’ reports, further documentation from the Vatican archives and updated historiography, this article examines the Holy See’s attitude in front of the Basque and Catalan nationalisms birth and development. In this two movements, Euskera and Catalan language had a fundamental relevance. -
