APPENDICES JOINT BARENTS TRANSPORT PLAN Appendix 1: Basic Cross-Border Routes/Corridors of the Barents Region
APPENDICES JOINT BARENTS TRANSPORT PLAN Appendix 1: Basic Cross-Border Routes/Corridors of the Barents Region Introduction The experts have defined main cross-border routes of great importance to the Barents Region development. The transport network in the Barents Region should be branched and provide a sufficient number of efficient transport routes to enhance the competitiveness of trade and industry and to ensure the attractiveness of the Barents Region for living, tourism and entrepreneurship. It should be noted that some routes, for example, the Bothnian Corridor encompassing road and rail from Helsinki to Stockholm, only partly lie within the Barents Region. The transport plan focuses on the Barents part of the route. Some of the routes overlap somewhat. In these cases, the overlapping part is included in only one of the route descriptions. Reference is made in discussions of the other route(s) to where descriptions can be found. The prioritized transports corridors are illustrated in figure 1.1. The two maps on the opposite page show transport networks prioritized by the EU and the Russian Federation. Figure 1.1 Prioritized transport corridors in the Barents region. 1 Figure 1.2 Prioritized road network by the EU and the Russian Federation. 2 Figure 1.3 Prioritized rail network by the EU and the Russian Federation. 3 The table below provides a brief presentation of the transport routes considered most important by the experts1: From – To Route name if Name of roads and rail sections Length existing (km) (Helsiki-)Oulu- The Bothnian -
Flight Accessibility of Joensuu.Pdf
Report on the Flight Accessibility of Joensuu 2 1. INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY High-‐quality, function air traffic plays a crucial role in regional competitiveness. It is for this reason that the Regional Council of North Karelia is participating in the Baltic Bird project, which is being funded by the EU Baltic SeaRegion Programme2007 -‐2013. The aim of the Baltic Bird project is to improve the flight accessibility of airports in peripheral regions. As part of the project, a survey was conducted in the spring of 2013 to determine how important Joensuu Airport is to companies and organisations as well as to individuals. Individual passengers include people taking trips for both businesslei and sure. The Regional Council is concerned that a decline in the number of trips beginning from Joensuu Airport may lead to a reduction in the service offering and flight schedules, which would make travel more difficult. Conversely, an ample selection of flights and good schedule structure would generate demand. Another reason for shrinking passenger numbers might be the use of other airports. This is why it is important to investigate the reasons for declining passenger numbers as opportunities for preserving ping and develo passenger traffic from Joensuu Airport. The survey content was jointly produced by the Regional Council of North Karelia, Finavia, the North Karelia Chamber of Commerce and Joensuu Entrepreneurs Association. The report was done through three separate surveys. The target group in the first survey included companies and organisations operating in North Karelia. The survey was distributed to companies through the North Karelia Chamber of Commerce and Joensuun Yrittäjät. -
