be safely put out of co~ssion so that they 1T.lll be ready

to operate almost imnediately when needed without deteri-

VIall as a l ubricant in r ecommissioning. Topside gear re

tains heavy oil and grease protection, but it is expected such destroyers could be recommissioned in two weeks or loss. Crews can live aboard while recommisoioning and it has been sug~Tested that a reserve division, during its t r:o weeks s~or cruise period, recommission a destroyer.as . the best training possible for actual war conditions, take it out for a. fell days run, and return, the succeeding divi sion decomcissionine the boat after being out with it on a few days run. German Press, toni&ht touched new heights of conce1-n over

the tlediterr ane.an situation. Despite the te1·rific p1•ess

bombardment, some observers believed Germany .ni ght be

trying to divert attention and possibly allied forces to the Mediterr aneo.n in order to launch tho long al'lalted firull "blitzkrieg" against England from the air. The sudden Dutch defense measure in calling up nc.val reserves and cancelling all nilitery leaves could support this view.
