Edition No. 5 Thank You hank you, hardly expresses the gratitude of the Supporters’ Club to those who have supported, sold tickets Tor helped in any way they could with the Grand Draw. Monies are still arriving from the sale of tickets but to date we have a grand total of £13,619. When your Supporters’ Club decided to have a Grand Draw to raise money which would be used for a specific purpose at Brunton Park we had no idea it would be the success it has been. Those in the know told us that you normally receive a small percentage of tickets returned from the amount circulated. So we though lets go for 6 - 8 thousand pounds which would be very nice. It was soon apparent that this amount would be exceeded. What has been really nice was some of the notes of encouragement which many members returned with their sold tickets. There was no competition to sell tickets, all sales were much appreciated and everyone selling or buying tickets have contributed to the success of this draw. We asked for applications to be made by those wishing the Yvonne Bowman and Louise Fawcett presenting the cheque to Neil money to be made available to their departments within Dalton at half time during the Carlisle v Hull City game Brunton Park or the money to be available for specific improvement. The successful application was made by Neil Dalton who asked that the money raised by the draw to be made available to purchase TechnoGym equipment, which will be used by those requiring treatment under the supervision of the Physio department at Brunton Park. The equipment was to cost £12,000. A cheque for that amount has now been handed to Neil. It’s hoped that delivery will be prior to our June Newsletter when you will be given an update with pictures of the equipment. The purchase of this equipment places Carlisle United in the position of being one of the best equipped physio departments in the 2nd and 3rd divisions of the Football League. The remainder of the monies raised together with other money will be used to refurbish Foxy’s Restaurant with audio and visual equipment, similar to that already supplied by The Supporters’ Club in the Sunset Suite. The equipment in the Sunset Suite has proved very popular on match days and will establish the two function suites as desirable conference venues for the future. Once again a huge thank you from the Supporters’ Club you really are a fantastic Susan Elliott and Bob Lindsay presenting a cheque for £12,000 to Neil Dalton bunch of supporters. • Players – Terry Hibbitt – a Wayward Genius
Players – Terry Hibbitt – A wayward genius Terry Hibbitt‘s impressive entrance into senior football hinted that he could be one of the most glorious talents to emerge from Leeds United‘s golden generation of the Sixties. He was given his first team debut as an 18-year-old against Nottingham Forest on 19 February 1966, coming on as a first half substitute for Paul Madeley. Within minutes of taking the field Hibbitt scored a stunning goal, lobbing goalkeeper Peter Grummitt from 20 yards. For the next three years the talented left winger continued to show rich potential whenever given an opportunity by Don Revie, but he disappeared into the cul-de-sac of reserve team football after the talented Eddie Gray established himself as Revie‘s preferred choice on the left flank. A £30,000 transfer to Newcastle United in 1971 gave Hibbitt the chance of reviving his career, and he used the platform to give clear evidence of his prowess in a playmaking role. Hibbitt‘s younger brother Ken, born on 3 January 1951 and an England Under-23 cap, also enjoyed a long and successful professional career, mainly at Wolves (1968-84), with spells at Bradford Park Avenue, Seattle Sounders, Coventry City and Bristol Rovers. Frail of build and bandy of leg, Terry Hibbitt did not have a classic athlete‘s build, but he was an outstanding midfielder, playing cultured and intelligent football. He possessed a great range of passing skills and an instinctive feel for the through ball which benefited Malcolm Macdonald among others. Toon midfield colleague Terry McDermott: ―Hibby had a left foot that was like a magic wand.

Hello All, Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and it was great to see, in some limited ways, football fans back into stadiums in England last Saturday afternoon. Below were the ‘sell out’ scenes at Carrow Road where Norwich left it late to rescue a point against Preston North End as Canaries fans were able to bask in the late summer sun in East Anglia. They were scenes played out at a few other grounds around the country and we all had our fingers crossed that if we could all behave in the next few weeks we would soon be able to start watching our favourite teams in person. The news that came on Tuesday afternoon when Boris Johnson spoke to the nation really came as a blow to us all and the chances of getting crowds into grounds this season now really looks a long way off. Did Brentford deliberately try and make their new stadium look like a Subbuteo Stadium? If they did, they nailed it as it hardly looks real when you are watching on television! I have to say having been a regular over the past few seasons to Brentford I would really miss my trips to the tight confines of the old ground and it will be interesting to see how the Bess perform in their home. Griffin Park smelt of Bovril whenever I stepped through its gates and I mean that in the very nicest of ways as it had the feel of an incredibly old football ground steeped in history. Yes, clubs need to move forward and progress but I can’t help but feel that Brentford has lost a part of their history.
