Whether you want to play or sing in an ensemble, take private lessons, join a guitar, piano, or voice class, or study the history of rock, jazz, classical, or electronic music, everyone can participate in music at Carroll!
Ensembles
Our performing ensembles are open to everyone regardless of major. In fact, most of our ensembles are primarily composed of non- music majors.
If you are interested in performing in an ensemble, you should sign up for the ensemble of your choice today! We will contact you before classes start to schedule a placement hearing. See the back of this sheet for the full list of ensembles, including course numbers and meeting times.
Classes for Beginners
If you've always wanted to learn guitar or piano in a classroom setting, try one of our music methods courses. No prior experience with music is required!

Private Lessons
If you want advanced one-on-one instruction with an expert on your instrument, we can provide weekly half-hour or hour lessons with our applied music faculty, each an active and respected professional performer. All lessons are scheduled personally by the lesson teacher during the first week of fall classes.
To sign up for lessons, register today for your specific area of interest from MUS161 (violin) to MUS 179 (percussion). See the catalog for the specific course number. Choose 1 credit for a half-hour lesson or 2 credits for a full hour. An additional fee is charged for all students taking private lessons.
General Interest Music Courses
The music program offers courses on the history of jazz, rock, classical, and electronic music. No prior musical background is required, and the courses satisfy your Fine Arts general education requirement!

Instrument Storage and Checkout
Music lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You will need your own padlock. The music program has a limited number of instruments available for checkout. Contact the music office.

Marching Band (MUS 196) (1 cr.) Tuesday & Thursday, 12:00 – 1:50 pm
The Pride of the Pioneers wants YOU! We play all the home football games, as well as the Homecoming Parade and the Waukesha Winter Parade. Color guard members needed too! No audition required. Students move in a week early for band camp. Marching band members also participate in Pep Band, a paid hourly job. Contact us at [email protected] with questions.
Wind Ensemble MUS 188 (1 cr.) Tuesday & Thursday, 4:00 – 5:50 pm
The Wind Symphony is an ensemble for students in all majors from across the campus to come together to make music for the love it. The Wind Ensemble performs a wide range of music, from classic band pieces to innovative new music and film music. Four semesters in the Wind Ensemble satisfies the university Fine Arts course required of all graduates.
Concert Choir MUS 185 (1 cr.) Monday & Wednesday, 4:00 – 5:50 pm
Open to students in all majors, the Concert Choir is a large, auditioned mixed ensemble that performs regularly throughout the year in the Carroll Choir's concert season, including the annual performances of Christmas at Carroll, and appears at university ceremonies such as Convocation and Baccalaureate. The Concert Choir performs a wide variety of repertoire from traditional to contemporary choral literature, and frequently collaborates with instrumental ensembles such as the Wisconsin Philharmonic Orchestra and Carroll Wind Symphony to perform major works. Four semesters in Concert Choir satisfies the university Fine Arts course required of all graduates.
Chamber Orchestra MUS 191 (1 cr.) Monday & Wednesday, 4:00 – 5:50 pm
The Chamber Orchestra is Carroll’s string orchestra. The Chamber Orchestra performs on average 1-2 concert programs per semester, ranging in repertoire styles from the late Renaissance to Modern, with the main body being Baroque and Classical. The Orchestra plays for Christmas at Carroll, and also often combines with the Wind Ensemble to play music for symphony orchestra. Four semesters in the Chamber Orchestra satisfies the university Fine Arts course required of all graduates.
Jazz Ensemble MUS 189 (1 cr.) Monday & Wednesday, 2:40 – 3:50 pm
Jazz Ensemble performs big band and combo songs ranging from New Orleans jazz to straight-ahead swing, Latin jazz, and contemporary funk and rock, including frequent collaborations with singers. The group performs regularly at public events around campus.
